Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve a rolling life together with pitting resistance and corrosion resistance by adding particularly a slight ratio of Ce to the compsn. of a bearing steel, decreasing the ratio of Cr and limiting the ratio of S. CONSTITUTION:The compsn. of the bearing steel is constituted, by weight, of 0.70-0.90% C, 0.15-0.50% Si, 0.15-0.50% Mn, <=0.025% P, <=0.002% S, 0.05-0.30% Cu, 5.00-12.00% Cr, 0.010-0.030% Al, 0.003-0.03% Ce, and the balance Fe and impurity elements. Further, 1 or >=2 kinds of 0.01-0.05% Se and 0.01-0.05% Te and 0.05-0.75% Mo are incorporated therein. This steel is decreased in the content of the Cr by addition of the slight ratio of the Ce thereto to improve the pitting resistance without deteriorating the corrosion resistance and is further decreased in the content of the S to suppress the formation of MnS which is the initiation point for corrosion. In addition, this steel is provided with excellent characteristics in acoustic characteristics as well by the formation of the finer carbide.
