Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the titled emulsion having prolonged half-life in living bodies and improved effectiveness and safety of a drug transmitted to the target site of the drug with high selectivity, by embedding the drug in emulsion particles of fluorinated hydrocarbons. CONSTITUTION:An emulsion obtained by embedding a drug in an emulsion consisting of (A) 1-50% (wt./vol.) fluorinated hydrocarbons which are 9-12C liquid saturated perfluorocarbons forming at least one saturated aliphatic ring, heterocyclic ring having one or more N and/or O as hetero-atoms. aliphatic tertiary amine or aliphatic ether, (B) 0.2-10% (wt./vol.) emulsifying agent, such as high polymer based nonionic surfactant or phospholipid, and (C) an adequate amount of water. The aimed drug-containing emulsion can be obtained simply by blending the respective ingredients. Furthermore, a drug-containing emulsion of the type prepared in use for an unstable drug which is hard to preserve in an emulsion for a long period can be obtained by blending the drug in a previously prepared emulsion.
