Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable smooth tilt adjustment by attaching a tooth part, centering on a fulcrum shaft, tightly to one side of upper and lower brackets coupled free of rotation with the fulcrum shaft as the center, and supporting a link with a second tooth part to be engaged with the tooth part, pivotally on the other side bracket. CONSTITUTION:An upper rotating bracket 2 and a lower fixed bracket 4 supporting both upper and lower steering columns 1, 3 holding upper and lower steering shafts A1, A2 are coupled together rotatebly by a fulcrum shaft 5. A first tooth part G1 is tightly attached to the upper rotating bracket 2 so as to cause the tooth surface to be directed to the under side of the bracket 2 as well so as to accord the center of a pitch circle with the fulcrum shaft 5. A base end of a link 7 is pivotally attached to the lower fixed bracket 4, and a second tooth part G2 formed at the tip side of the link 7 is engaged with the first tooth part G1. A diameter of the pitch circle P of the second tooth part G2 is set to be larger than that of the pitch circle of the first tooth part.
