Abstract
PURPOSE:To form a hardened layer having the resistance to wear and oxidation corrosion on the surface of a metal by superposing a powder mixture composed of heat resistant ceramics powder and heat resistant metal powder on the surface of the metal and pressurizing the same at and under a high temp. and high pressure in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:The powder mixture 11 composed of 50-80% <=325 mesh powder of hard compds. such as the carbide, nitride and boride of Cr or Si and 50-20wt.% powder of a heat resistant alloy contg. 15-40wt.% Cr and consisting of the balance Ni or Co or a metal mixture composed of 20-40wt.% Cr powder and the balance Ni powder is put into a metallic mold 12 and a metallic plate 13 consisting of Ni, etc., to be subjected to a surface hardening treatment is superposed thereon. The powder and plate are then sintered at a high temp. of, for example, 1100 deg.C in a vacuum or nonoxidizing atmosphere. The heat resistant ceramics powder and the heat resistant metal are securely diffusively joined to the surface of the Ni plate 13 and the hardened layer having excellent resistance to wear and oxidation is formed thereon.
