PURPOSE:To preclude miscopying by discriminating the color of copying paper and the color of toner, comparing both colors with each other and indicating a paper feed cassette containing copying paper of color different from the toner color. CONSTITUTION:This device is equipped with means 20 and 21 which discriminate the colors of copying paper put in paper feed cassettes 14 and 15, means 40 and 41 which discriminate the colors of toner particles contained in developing devices 5 and 6, a means 100 which compares the toner color and copying paper color with each other and means 56 and 58 which indicate a paper feed cassette containing copying paper of color different from the toner color. Therefore, when a color copy is taken, a paper feed cassette which contains copying paper of color different from the color of the toner in a selected developing device is displayed and indicated automatically. Consequently, such a state that an image which is copied so that the copying paper color and toner color are the same can not be recognized is eliminated. Consequently, the miscopying is precluded.
