PURPOSE:To correctly read a new clock run signal and an index signal by providing a carrier signal sector longer than the sum of an index sector and a clock run signal sector to the start of the index sector of a magnetic track. CONSTITUTION:A carrier signal sector 155 is formed by 3H from the tip of recording pulse of a 6H recording pulse, then a clock run signal SCL is formed by 2H and then an index signal CDIX is recorded over 1H respectively. Since the length of the sector 155 of the carrier signal S01 is longer than the sum of the clock run signal sector 156 and the index sector 157, even in the presence of undesired clock run signal and index signal (referred to as old data) recorded previously, the carrier signal S01 is overwritten to erase the recording completely. Thus, the new clock run signal SCL and index signal CDIX (new data) to be read substantially are read correctly.
