Abstract

PURPOSE:To form a distinct image by installing a housing which directly and indirectly supports an image carrier and integrally attaching a deflecting unit for deflecting and scanning a beam with at least an optical system which is positioned on an outgoing side on the surface opposed to the image carrier supporting surface of the housing. CONSTITUTION:In an upper housing 1, a laser oscillator incorporating a semiconductor laser and a collimating lens, a polygon mirror 11 which deflects and reflects a linear converging beam projected from the oscillator in a main scanning direction with its rotation, an ftheta lens system 13 which changes the deflected beam projected from said mirror 11 into a uniform motion and a turning mirror 14 which guides the beam projected from the ftheta lens system 13 to a photosensitive drum 5a are respectively provided in the specified positions on the upper surface side. In order to attain precise positioning and to facilitate the attaching, the ftheta lens system 13 and the turning mirror 14 are constituted so that they can be closely fitted in recess parts 23a and 24a obtained by depressing the specified spots of supporting parts 23 and 24 which is formed by protruding the upper surface side of the housing 1. Thus, the distinct image can be formed and the reduction in size and weight can be attained.
