PURPOSE:To record recording data in which a bit error rate is low by switching a recording current according to the recording density of the recording data. CONSTITUTION:A recording amplifying means 35 to supply first or second recording currents IRECA or IRECB to record recording data SAD with mutually different first or second recording densities to magnetic heads 12a and 12b, a recording current switching control means system controller 31 to switching- control values of the first or second recording currents IRECA or IRECB by controlling the recording amplifying means 35 so that the C/N of said reproducing signal can be made large at the time of reproducing the recording data SAD in making the first or second recording densities into current switching conditions, a SW, and R1-R8 are provided. At the time of recording the recording data SAD onto a magnetic recording medium 1, the recording currents IRECA and IRECB are switched to the values adaptive to the recording density of the recording data SAD. Thus, the bit error rate at the time of reproducing the recording data SAD can be suppressed at a small value.
