Abstract

필드 에미션 디스플레이 장치(field emission display) 또는 진공 형광 디스플레이 장치(vacuum fluorescent display) 등의 저전압 구동 디스플레이 장치에 사용되는 형광체 분산액 조성물에 관한 것으로서, 형광체, 폴리아닐린(polyaniline) 등의 도전성 폴리머, 캄폴술폰산(camphorsulfonic acid) 등의 산(acid) 및 크레졸(cresol) 등의 용매를 포함하는 형광체 분산액 조성물은 휘도 및 발광 효율이 우수하고, 균일한 형광막을 제공할 수 있다.

Description

저전압 구동 디스플레이 장치용 형광체 분산액 조성물, 그 제조 방법 및 이를 사용하여 제조한 형광막
산업상 이용 분야
본 발명은 저전압 구동 디스플레이 장치용 형광체 분산액 조성물, 그 제조 방법 및 이를 사용하여 제조한 형광막에 관한 것으로서, 더욱 상세하게는, 휘도 및 발광 효율이 우수하고, 균일한 형광막을 제공할 수 있는 형광체 분산액 조성물, 이 조성물을 제조하는 방법 및 이 조성물을 사용하여 제조한 형광막에 관한 것이다.
종래 기술
저전압 구동 디스플레이 장치로는 필드 에미션 디스플레이 장치(Field Emission Display: 이하 “FED”), 진공 형광 디스플레이 장치(Vacuum Fluorescent Display: 이하 “VFD”) 등이 있다.
FED는 필드 에미션(field emission) 현상에 의해 방출된 전자가 형광면에 충돌함으로써 빛을 발하는 장치이며, VFD는 필라멘트(filament)에서 방출되는 전자를 그리드(grid) 전극과 애노드(anode) 전극에서 제어하여 애노드 상의 형광체에 충돌시킴으로써 빛을 발하는 장치이다.
상기 FED 및 VFD 등의 저전압 구동 디스플레이 장치의 작동시의 형광체 발광 현상에 대해서 보다 상세히 설명한다. VFD를 예를 들어 설명하면, 필라멘트에서 방출된 전자(electrons)가 형광체에 충돌함으로써 이 형광체를 구성하는 부활제(activator)의 전자를 여기시킨다. 이어서, 여기된 전자가 바닥 상태로 되돌아가면서 빛을 방출한다. 이때, 캐소드로부터 방출되는 1차 전자가 충분한 에너지를 가지고 있다면 형광체로부터 2차 전자가 쉽게 방출되겠지만 인가 전압이 1㎸ 이하인 FED 또는 VFD의 경우 1차 전자의 수에 대한 2차 전자의 수의 비가 1 이하이므로 형광체 표면은 음전하로 대전된다. 또한 이 형광체는 고저항의 절연체이므로 대전된 전하를 외부로 배출하지 못한다. 그러므로 이 형광체는 저전압의 필라멘트로부터 공급되는 전자를 받아들이기 어려우므로 발광되기 어렵다.
상기한 형광체의 전자 저항을 감소시키고 이를 발광시키기 위해, 저전압 구동 디스플레이 장치용 형광체를 In2O3, SnO2, ZnO 등의 도전성 물질과 혼합하여 사용하기도 하고, 상기 형광체에 In2O3, SnO2, ZnO 등의 도전성 물질을 부착하여 사용하기도 한다. 즉, 형광체에 도전성을 부여함으로써 전자에 대한 저항을 감소시켜서 형광체의 발광 개시 전압을 저하시키는 것이다. 그 결과로 상기 형광체는 낮은 전압에서도 발광할 수 있으므로 FED 및 VFD 등의 저전압 구동 디스플레이 장치에서 사용이 가능하게 된다.
상기한 In2O3, SnO2, ZnO 등의 도전성 물질이 혼합되거나 부착된 형광체에서, 상기 도전성 물질의 양은 전체 형광체 중량의 약 10%∼15%에 해당한다. 이와 같이,비발광 물질인 상기 도전성 물질이 첨가되는 양만큼 발광에 참여하지 못하는 부분이 발생하므로 이 형광체를 사용하여 형광막을 제조하면 형광막의 휘도 및 발광 효율이 저하된다. 또한, In2O3, SnO2, ZnO 등의 도전성 물질은 형광체와 비중 및 밀도의 차이가 크다. 그러므로 상기 도전성 물질을 혼합하거나 부착시킨 형광체를 포함하는 형광막 제조용 슬러리 또는 페이스트는 초기에는 균일한 상태를 유지하지만, 시간이 흐를수록 상기 도전성 물질과 형광체가 분리되는 현상이 발생한다. 따라서, 이 형광체 슬러리 또는 페이스트를 사용하여 형광막을 형성할 경우, 형광막의 도전성 즉, 전자에 대한 저항값이 불안정해지고, 비발광 부분과 발광 부분이 나타나서 막에 얼룩이 발생하는 등 막의 품질이 저하된다.
상기한 문제점을 해결하기 위한 것으로서, 본 발명의 목적은 형광막의 휘도 및 발광 효율을 우수하게 유지하고, 형광막의 품질을 향상시킬 수 있는 형광체 분산액 조성물을 제공하기 위함이다.
본 발명의 다른 목적은 상기한 형광체 분산액 조성물의 제조 방법을 제공하기 위함이다.
본 발명의 또 다른 목적은 상기한 형광체 분산액 조성물을 사용하여 제조한 형광막을 제공하기 위함이다.
상기한 본 발명의 목적을 달성하기 위하여, 본 발명은 형광체와 도전성 폴리머(polymer) 및 용매를 포함하는 형광체 분산액 조성물을 제공한다.
또한, 본 발명은 도전성 폴리머를 용매에 녹이는 공정 및 상기 도전성 폴리머가 녹은 용액에 형광체를 혼합하는 공정을 포함하는 형광체 분산액 조성물 제조 방법을 제공한다.
또한, 본 발명은 형광체, 도전성 폴리머 및 용매를 포함하는 형광체 분산액 조성물을 사용하여 제조한 형광막을 제공한다.
이하, 본 발명을 더욱 상세히 설명한다.
본 발명에서는 형광체에 In2O3, SnO2, ZnO 등의 도전성 물질을 혼합하거나 부착하는 대신 형광체를 도전성 폴리머 용액과 혼합하여 도전성의 형광체 분산액을 제조한다. 이때, 형광체는 순수 형광체만을 사용할 수도 있으나, 바람직하게는 형광체 페이스트 또는 슬러리 상태로 투입한다. 이때, 이 형광체 페이스트 또는 슬러리는 형광체를 물, 부틸 아세테이트, 터피네올(terpineol) 등에 혼합함으로써 페이스트 또는 슬러리 상태로 만든 것이다. 이 형광체 페이스트 또는 슬러리는 셀룰로즈 등의 접착제를 더욱 포함하는 것이 바람직하다.
상기 형광체 분산액 조성물 제조 방법은 다음과 같다.
도전성 폴리머를 용매에 녹인 후 이 도전성 폴리머가 녹은 용액에 형광체를 혼합함으로써 형광체 분산액 조성물을 제조한다. 상기한 바와 같이 상기 형광체는 페이스트 또는 슬러리 상태로 만든 후 투입하는 것이 바람직하다.
상기 도전성 폴리머로는 폴리아닐린(polyaniline)을 사용하는 것이 바람직하다. 상기 형광체 분산액 조성물 제조에 있어서, 도전성 폴리머로 폴리아닐린을 사용할 경우에는 폴리아닐린을 용매에 녹이는 공정 전에 폴리아닐린에 산(acid)을 첨가하는 공정을 실시하는 것이 바람직하다. 폴리아닐린은 그 자체로는 10-6∼10-7/Ω·㎝의 전도도를 나타내지만, 폴리아닐린이 산과 결합하여 염을 생성할 경우에는 100∼102/Ω·㎝ 정도로 더 높은 전도도를 나타낸다. 또한 폴리아닐린은 300∼400℃에서도 열분해되지 않는 내열성 폴리머이므로 종래의 형광체 페이스트 또는 형광체 슬러리에 사용되었던 폴리머를 제거하기 위한 소성 공정에서도 안정하다. 따라서, 이 소성 공정 이후에도 도전성 폴리머로서의 기능을 발휘할 수 있다.
폴리아닐린에 산(acid)을 첨가한 후, 이 혼합물을 용매에 녹임으로써 높은 도전성을 나타내는 폴리아닐린 염 용액을 수득할 수 있다. 이 폴리아닐린 염 용액에 형광체, 바람직하게는 상기한 형광체 페이스트 또는 슬러리를 혼합함으로써 형광체 분산액 조성물을 완성한다.
이 형광체 분산액 조성물을 VFD 또는 FED의 애노드 전극 상에 스크린-프린팅법(screen-printing) 등으로 코팅함으로써 형광막이 제조된다.
상기 형광체로는 FED 및 VFD 등의 저전압 구동 디스플레이 장치에 일반적으로 사용되는 형광체로서, ZnO 계열 형광체, ZnS 계열 형광체, (ZnCd)S 계열 형광체, Y2O2S 계열 형광체, 다른 산화물 계열의 형광체 등이 사용될 수 있다.
상기 산으로는 캄폴술폰산(camphorsulfonic acid) 또는 도데실벤젠술폰산(dodecylbenzenesulfonic acid) 등을 사용하는 것이 바람직하다.
상기 용매로는 크레졸(cresol)을 사용하는 것이 바람직하다.
상기 형광체 분산액 조성물에서, 상기 형광체는 65∼75중량%, 상기 폴리아닐린은 20∼30중량%, 상기 산은 1∼5중량%, 나머지는 용매로 이루어지는 것이 바람직하다.
다음은 본 발명의 이해를 돕기 위하여 바람직한 실시예를 제시한다. 그러나 하기의 실시예들은 본 발명을 보다 쉽게 이해하기 위하여 제공되는 것일 뿐 본 발명이 하기의 실시예에 한정되는 것은 아니다.
실시예 1
폴리아닐린 파우더 20g에 캄폴술폰산(camphorsulfonic acid) 파우더 5g을 첨가한 후, 이 혼합물을 메타-크레졸(meta-cresol)에 녹여서 도전성의 폴리아닐린 염 용액을 제조하였다. 이 용액에 ZnO:Zn 형광체, 셀룰로즈, 터피네올을 혼합한 형광체 페이스트 70g 첨가하여 형광체 분산액을 제조하였다.
이 페이스트를 스크린-프린팅법으로 VFD의 애노드 전극 상에 코팅함으로써 형광막을 제조하였다.
본 발명에 따라, 도전성 폴리머 및 용매를 포함하는 도전성 용액에 형광체, 형광체 페이스트 또는 형광체 슬러리를 분산시킨 형광체 분산액 조성물을 사용하여 저전압 구동 디스플레이 장치의 형광막을 제조할 경우, 휘도 및 발광 효율이 우수하고, 균일한 형광막을 얻을 수 있으며, 도전성 폴리머와 형광체의 분리 현상이 발생하지 않으므로 형광막의 도전성을 안정하게 유지할 수 있다.

Claims (5)

  1. 형광체 65∼75중량%;
    폴리아닐린 20∼30중량%;
    캄폴술폰산(camphorsulfonic acid) 및 도데실 벤젠 술폰산으로 이루어진 군에서 선택되는 산 1∼5중량%; 및
    용매 잔부
    를 포함하는 저전압 구동 디스플레이의 형광막을 형성하기 위한 형광체 분산액 조성물.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 용매는 크레졸(cresol)인 형광체 분산액 조성물.
  3. 캄폴술폰산 및 도데실 벤젠 술폰산으로 이루어진 군에서 선택되는 산을 폴리아닐린에 첨가하는 공정;
    상기 폴리아닐린을 용매에 녹이는 공정; 및
    상기 폴리아닐린이 녹은 용액과 형광체를 혼합하는 공정
    을 포함하는 저전압 구동 디스플레이용 형광체 분산액 조성물의 제조방법.
  4. 제3항에 있어서, 상기 용매는 크레졸인 형광체 분산액 조성물의 제조방법.
  5. 제1항의 형광체 분산액 조성물을 사용하여 제조되는 저전압 구동 디스프레이용 형광막.
