- 제1 성분으로서, 일반식(I)
(식 중, R1은 탄소 원자수 1 내지 24의 직쇄 알킬기 또는 분기쇄 알킬기를 나타내고, 당해 알킬기 중의 1개 또는 2개 이상의 CH2기는, 산소 원자가 직접 인접하지 않도록, -O-, -CO-, -OCO-, -COO-로 치환되어도 되고, M1은 단결합을 나타냄)으로 표시되는 화합물을 1종 또는 2종 이상 함유하고,
제2 성분으로서, 일반식(Ⅱ)
(식 중, R21∼R22은 서로 독립하여 탄소 원자수 1 내지 10의 알킬기, 알콕시기 또는 탄소 원자수 2 내지 10의 알케닐기를 나타내고, X21∼X24는 서로 독립하여 수소 원자 또는 불소 원자를 나타내지만, 적어도 1개 이상은 불소 원자를 나타냄)으로 표시되는 화합물을 1종 또는 2종 이상 함유하고, 25℃에 있어서의 유전율 이방성(Δε)이 -2.0 이하인 것을 특징으로 하는 네마틱 액정 조성물. - 제1항에 있어서,

(식 중, R31∼R32은 서로 독립적으로는 탄소 원자수 1 내지 10의 알킬기, 알콕시기, 또는 탄소 원자수 2 내지 10의 알케닐기를 나타내고, M31은 트랜스-1,4-시클로헥실렌기를 나타내고, 당해 트랜스-1,4-시클로헥실렌기 중의 1개 또는 2개의 -CH2-는 산소 원자가 직접 인접하지 않도록, -O-로 치환되어 있어도 되고, 당해 페닐렌기 중의 1개 또는 2개의 수소 원자는 불소 원자로 치환되어 있어도 되고, L31은 단결합, -CH2CH2- 또는 -CH2O-를 나타내고, n31은 0 또는 1을 나타냄)
으로 표시되는 화합물을 1종 또는 2종 이상 함유하는 네마틱 액정 조성물. - 제1항 내지 제3항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
일반식(I)에 있어서, R1이 탄소 원자수 1 내지 10의 직쇄 알킬기 또는 분기쇄 알킬기를 나타내는 네마틱 액정 조성물. - 제1항 내지 제4항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,
일반식(I)으로 표시되는 화합물의 함유량이 0.001질량% 내지 1질량%이고, 일반식(Ⅱ)으로 표시되는 화합물의 함유량이 5질량% 내지 30질량%인 네마틱 액정 조성물. - 제1항 내지 제5항 중 어느 한 항에 있어서,

M51은 1,4-페닐렌기, 트랜스-1,4-시클로헥실렌기 또는 단결합을 나타내고, 식 중의 모든 1,4-페닐렌기는, 임의의 수소 원자가 불소 원자에 의해 치환되어 있어도 됨)으로 표시되는 중합성 화합물을 함유하는 네마틱 액정 조성물. - 투명 도전성 재료로 이루어지는 공통 전극을 구비한 제1 기판과, 투명 도전성 재료로 이루어지는 화소 전극과 각 화소에 구비한 화소 전극을 제어하는 박막 트랜지스터를 구비한 제2 기판과, 상기 제1 기판과 제2 기판 사이에 협지(挾持)된 액정 조성물을 가지며, 당해 액정 조성물 중의 액정 분자의 전압 무인가 시의 배향이 상기 기판에 대하여 대략 수직인 액정 표시 소자로서, 당해 액정 조성물로서 제1항 내지 제6항 중 어느 한 항에 기재된 네마틱 액정 조성물을 사용한 액정 표시 소자.
- 제6항에 기재된 중합성 화합물을 함유하는 네마틱 액정 조성물을 사용하여, 전압 인가 하 또는 전압 무인가 하에서 당해 액정 조성물 중에 함유하는 중합성 화합물을 중합시켜서 제작한 고분자 안정화 모드 액정 표시 소자.
