Abstract

THE INVENTION RELATES TO AN INTEGRATED PROCESS FOR FRACTIONATION OF OIL PALM EMPTY FRUIT BUNCH (EFB) TO OBTAIN CELLULOSIC SOLID, HEMICELLULOSIC SUGARS AND HIGH-PURITY LIGNIN, AND CONVERSION OF THE CELLULOSIC SOLID TO ETHANOL BY ENZYMATIC HYDROLYSIS AND MICROBIAL FERMENTATION. THE END-PRODUCTS OF THE DISCLOSED INTEGRATED PROCESS COMPRISES AT LEAST A CELLULOSIC SOLID, HEMICELLULOSIC SUGARS, HIGH-PURITY LIGNIN AND CELLULOSIC ETHANOL.
