Abstract

A floor drain assembly (100) comprises a housing (10) having a surrounding wall (12), top opening (14) and bottom opening (16), a plurality of side inlets (20) extending from upper section of the surrounding wall (12) for connecting to discharge sources; a cover portion (30) for closing the top opening (14) of the housing (10), the cover portion (30) comprising a collar member (32) and a top member (34) with a plurality of apertures (36) allowing discharge of fluid therethrough, a bottom outlet portion (40) connected to the bottom opening (16) of the housing (10), the bottom outlet portion (40) comprising a first base (42), a first outer annular wall (44) extending partially within the housing (10) and attached thereto, and a first inner annular wall (48) extending upwardly from the first base (42) and defining a central opening forming a downwardly extending outlet (49), a bowl portion (50) having a second base (52), a second outer annular wall (54) having a diameter less than the wall (12) of the housing (10), and a second inner annular wall (58) extending upwardly from the second base (52), and a cap portion (60) having a top wall (62) defining a closed upper end and an annular wall (64) extending downwardly from the top wall (62) with a lower end being opened and positioned at a level above the surface of the base of the bowl portion (50) so that fluid entering the drain assembly (100) passes downwards between the second outer annular wall (54) of the bowl portion (50) and the annular wall (64) of the cap portion (60) then upwards between the annular wall (64) of the cap portion (60) and the second inner annular wall (58) of the bowl portion (50) from which it is discharged.
