Description
Synergistisk virkende stabilisatorkombinasjon for polyolefiner.
Polyolefiner (polyalkener) undergår ved innvirkning av luft en oksydativ avbygning som akselereres sterkt av høyere temperaturer og lys. Ved denne avbygning blir de mekaniske egenskaper vesentlig dårligere, og dermed synker bruksverdien av de fremstilte formlegemer.
Por å hindre slike avbygningsforeteelser er det allerede foreslått å anvende organiske forbindelser, f.eks. fenoler, som stabilisatorer for polyolefiner. De fleste stabilisatorer har imidlertid forskjellige ulemper. Således er fenolderivater mindre effektive og tenderer dessuten til misfargning.
Penolenes effektivitet forhøyes dersom de anvendes i kombinasjon med en tio-di-(alkansyrealkylester), som f.eks. tio-di-(propionsyrelaurylester) (se norsk patent nr. 99-222). Det er også kjent å stabilisere polyolefiner med en kombinasjon av et metallchelat og en tio-di-(alkansyrealkylester), se japansk ut-legningsskrift nr. 18.511/1963. Videre er det kjent å anvende blan-dinger av tiodialkansyre-dialkylestere og métallchelater av bestemte svovelholdige fenoler til stabilisering av polyolefin. Ved de anvendte chelater dreier det seg imidlertid om intenst fargede forbindelser som ikke kan anvendes som tilsetning til naturfarget plast. Dertil kommer den ytterligere ulempe at ved de vanlige høye for-arbeidelsestemperaturer nedbrytes kompleksforbindelsene og det danner seg derved med unntak av sinksulfid sortfargede tungmetallsulfider. Også av denne grunn er de nevnte forbindelser ikke egnet til stahili-sering av naturfarget plast. Uheldig er videre at metallsulfidene, spesielt imidlertid sinksulfid, med de ved oksydasjonen av poly-olefinene dannede karboksylsyrer utvikler svovelhydrogen og dermed gir grunn til en luktbelastning. Disse ulemper består ikke ved den høye termostabilitet av blandingen ifølge oppfinnelsen.
Oppfinnelsen vedrører følgelig synergistisk virkende stabilisatorkombinasjoh for polyolefiner, omfattende a) en organisk metallforbindelse og b) en forbindelse med den generelle formel
hvor n betyr et helt tall fra 1 til 4, m et helt tall fra 1-19, fortrinnsvis 1-4, R,_ betyr en CH-j- eller -COO.Rg-gruppe, og Rg betyr en alkylrest med 1-18, fortrinnsvis 12-18 karbonatomer, idet kombinasjonen er karakterisert ved at metallforbindelsen a) har den generelle formel
hvor R1 betyr et hydrogen-, klor- eller bromatom eller en -OH-gruppe, fortrinnsvis en OH-gruppe, R2 betyr en alkylgruppe med 1-18, fortrinnsvis 4-9 karbonatomer eller et halogenatom, R^ betyr et hydrogenatom, en alkylgruppe med 1 til 5 karbonatomer, fortrinnsvis en tertiær butylgruppe eller gruppen -COO.R^, idet R^ betyr en alifatisk rest med 1 til 20, fortrinnsvis 12-18 karbonatomer, idet
blandingsforholdet av komponentene a) og b) til hverandre kan utgjøre 1:9 til 9:1.
Da stabilisatorkombinasjonens komponenter hver for
seg viser en forholdsvis liten stabiliseringsvirkning, er det over-raskende at det ved kombinasjonen av a) og b) oppnås en utmerket stabilisering.
Den spesielle fordel ved anvendelsen ifølge oppfinnelsen av antimonforbindelsen med formel a) i forhold til de kjente fenoliske stabilisatorer ligger i antimonforbindelsenes høye termostabilitet. ^Disse forbindelser viser intet smeltepunkt, men spalter seg i det vesentlige først ved temperaturer over 270°C. Antimonforbindelsene avgir derfor ved de vanlige forarbeidelses-temperaturer ingen lukt og misfarges ikke, i motsetning til de kjente fenoliske stabilisatorer.
En ytterligere stor fordel består i antimonforbindelsenes uoppløselighet i vann og delvis i organiske oppløsningsmidler. Derfor egner denne stabilisatorklasse seg spesielt godt til stabilisering av plast som kommer i berøring med vann eller organiske oppløsnings-midler, f.eks. engangsflasker, som inneholder melk, olje eller lignende; for husholdningsvarer, vaskemaskiner og oppvaskmaskindeler som kommer i kontakt med vaskelut og for varmtvannsrør.
Som polyolefiner som skal stabiliseres ifølge oppfinnelsen, kommer det i betraktning slike som inneholder tertiære karbonatomer, fortrinnsvis polypropylen og polybutylen. Også høy-trykks- og lavtrykkspolyetylen kan stabiliseres ifølge oppfinnelsen.
De ifølge oppfinnelsen anvendte antimonforbindelser kan fremstilles ved omsetning av polyfenoler, f.eks. pyokatekin, alkyl-pyrokatekin, klorpyrokatekin, pyrogallol, alkylpyrogallol eller gallussyreester, med kaliumantimonyltartrat i kokende vann. I mange tilfelle er det også fordelaktig å omsette polyfenolene med antimon-III-klorid.
Som forbindelser av typen a) anvendes 'ifølge oppfinnelsen spesielt: 2-hydroksy-1!, 5-benzo-l, 3,2-dioksast ibenol,
2-hydroksy-4,5-benzo-8-tert.butyl-1,3,2-dioksastibenol, 2-hydroksy-4,5-benzo-6,8-di-tert.butyl-1,3,2-dioksastibenol, 2-hydroksy-4,5-benzo—8-klor-1,3,2-dioksastibenol,
2-hydroksy-4,5-benzo-6-hydroksy-l,3,2-dioksastibenol, 2-hydroksy-4,5-benzo-7,9-di-tert.butyl-1,3,2-dioksastibenol,
2-hydroksy-4,5-benzo-6-hydroksy-8-karboksypropyl-l,3,2-dioksa-stibenol,
2-hydroksy-4,5-benzo-6-hydroksy-8-karboksydodecyl-l,3,2-dioksa-stibenol .
Fortrinnsvis anvendes: 2-hydroksy-4,5-benzo-l,3,2-dioksastibenol,
2-hydroksy-4,5-benzo-6-hydroksy-l,3,2-dioksastibenol, 2-hydroksy-4,5-benzo-6-hydroksy-8-karboksydodecyl-l,3,2-dioksa-stibenol .
Som svovelforbindelser anvendes fortrinnsvis: di-(oktadecyl)-disulfid,
di-(oktadecyl)-tetrasulfid,
tio-di-(propionsyre-dodecylester),
tio-di(propionsyre-oktadecylester),
ditio-di-(eddiksyre-dodecylester).
Innblandingen av. stabilisatoren i det polyolefin som skal stabiliseres, foregår enten ved innrøring av den faste i organisk oppløsningsmiddel uoppløselige antimonforbindelser i poly-olefinpulveret, eller innføringen kan foretas over en blanding av meget stabilisator og lite polyolefin. For sistnevnte formål blander man en konsentrert oppløsning av stabilisatoren i et lavtkokende oppløsningsmiddel, f.eks. aceton eller metylenklorid, med en liten mengde av det pulverformede polymerisasjonsprodukt som skal stabiliseres, i et slikt forhold at blandingen etter fordampning av oppløsningsmidlet omtrent inneholder 30 til 40 vektprosent stabili-seringsmiddel.
Man får på denne arbeidsmåte et tørt pulver som på vanlig måte kan innarbeides i polymerisatet som skal stabiliseres. Selvsagt kan stabilisatoren også innføres under fremstillingen av polymerisasjonsproduktene, resp. deres etterfølgende opparbeidelse. Denne arbeidsmåte har den spesielle fordel at polymerisatet allerede tidlig, dvs. ennå under fremstillingsprosessen, beskyttes mot innvirkning av luft.
Det er også mulig å innbringe stabilisatoren sammen med ytterligere, kjente aldringsbeskyttelsesmidler, pigmenter eller, med vanlige bearbeidelseshjelpemidler.
Eksempel.
En 1%- ig acetonoppløsning av de i følgende tabeller oppførte stabilisatorer, resp. stabilisatorblandinger, ble blandet med polypropylenpulver i et slikt mengdeforhold at den på polypropylen beregnede stabilisatorkonsentrasjon utgjorde 0,5 vektprosent. Det stabiliserte polypropylenpulver ble tørket i vakuum ved 50° C og deretter presset til 1 mm tykke rundplater (diameter 120 mm). Noen forbindelser, f.eks. 2-hydroksy-4,5-benzo-l,3,2-dioksastibenol og 2-hydroksy-4,5-benzo-6-hydroksy-l,3,2-dioksa-stibenol var helt uoppløselig i de vanlige organiske oppløsnings-midler og måtte derfor innblandes i fast tilstand.
Pressbetingelser: temperatur 200°C, 10 minutters kontakttrykk av 5 til 10 ato, 2 minutters presstrykk av 100 ato.
Av hver plate utstanses flere prøvestrimler hver av
10 mm bredde og 100 mm lengde, og disse opphenges fritt i et tørkeskap og tempereres ved lit0°C under lufttilgang. Som mål for varmestabiliteten ble sprøgjøringstiden anvendt. Med sprøgjørings-tid forstås den tid i dager hvoretter de ved 140°C lagrede prøve-strimler ved bøyning om 180° brekker, resp. viser begynnelsen til en spesielt for polypropylen karakteristisk pulverformet nedbrytning.

- Synergistisk virkende stabilisatorkombinasjon for polyolefiner, omfattende a) en organisk metallforbindelse og b) en forbindelse med den generelle formel b) R5-(C<H>2)m-Sn-(CH2)m-R5hvori n betyr et helt tall fra 1 til 4, m et helt tall fra 1-19, fortrinnsvis 1-4, R^ betyr en CH^- eller -COO.Rg-gruppe, og Rgbetyr en alkylrest med 1-18, fortrinnsvis 12-18 karbonatomer, karakterisert ved at metallforbindelsen a) har den generelle formelhvor R1 betyr et hydrogen-., klor- eller bromatom eller en -OH-gruppe, Rg betyr en alkylrest med 1 til 18 karbonatomer eller et halogenatom, R^ betyr et hydrogenatom, en alkylrest med 1 til 5 karbonatomer eller gruppen -COO.R^, idet R^ betyr en alifatisk rest med 1 til 20 karbonatomer, og blandingsforholdene av komponent a) og b) kan utgjøre . 1:9 til 9:1.
