Det er beskrevet en fremgangsmåte ved drift av et måleapparat som har flere diagnosefunksjoner. På denne måte kan en mengde diagnosefunksjoner enkelt og effektivt integreres med driften av et måleapparat, slik som et magnetisk/induktivt volumstrømmåleapparat.
