Foreliggende oppfinnelse angår fremgangsmåte for fremstilling av ketokarotenoider ved dyrkning av genetisk modifiserte organismer som, sammenlignet med villtypen, har en modifisert ketolaseaktivitet, de genetisk modifiserte organismene og anvendelse derav som næring for mennesker og dyr og for å produsere ketokarotenoidekstrakter.
