Abstract
En varmeveksler har minst ett innløp og ett utløp for å tillate sirkulasjon av kjølemiddel mellom disse. Hver varmeveksler innbefatter et antall tynne materialseksjoner som er anordnet mellom et par av tynne, flate ytre plater. Hver av de tynne materialseksjoner omfatter parallelle strømningsbaner som tillater kjølemidlet å strømme gjennom innløpet, deretter fra én seksjon til den neste og til slutt ut av utløpet. Anordningen av seksjonene av parallelle strømningsbaner tillater at kjølemidlet kommer i kontakt med hoveddelen av innsiden av veggen til de ytre plater og tillater maksimal varmeutveksling. Ved bruk for kjøling av væsker er varmevekslerne anordnet i en ramme og bringes i kontakt med væsken som skal kjøles. Når varmeveksleren benyttes til å kjøle væske tilstrekkelig til å produsere iskrystaller vil en roterende skrapeinnretning feie over flatene til varmeveksleren og fjerne iskrystallene som er blitt dannet.
