Abstract
Oppfinnelsen angår fettalkoholer med medium kjedelengde, så som oktanol, dekanol, dodekanol eller analoger derav kan anvendes som en stimulator av hematopoese, hematopoetisk stamcelleproliferasjon og/eller proliferasjon av én eller flere av progenitorer av røde eller hvite blodceller (f.eks. erytrocytt, leukocytt, nøytrofil, granulocytt, megakaryocytt eller hvilken som helst kombinasjon derav). Den angår også behandling av myelosuppresjon; spesielt omfatter dette behandling av anemi og/eller neutropeni forbundet med kjemoterapi og/eller radioterapi. Videre kan anemi som er oppstått fra kronisk nyresvikt eller behandling av HIV-infiserte pasienter med AZT (zidovudin) eller andre inhibitorer av revers-transkriptase, behandles. Videre kan neutropeni som er oppstått fra infeksjoner, hematologiske sykdommer eller ernæringsmangler behandles. Den angår også reduksjon av medikament-toksisitet og forbedring av medikament-effektivitet.
