Abstract

En fremgangsmåte for fremstilling av et metall ved en elektrolyttisk fremgangsmåte ved anvendelse av et yttriainneholdende porøst keramisk legeme som et diafragma er tilveiebrakt; kalsium dannet ved elektrolysen kan ikke passere gjennom diafragmaet, således kan den tilbakegående reaksjonen effektivt hemmes. Det er foretrukket å anvende et diafragma som omfatter et porøst keramisk legeme som har en renhet av yttria på 90 masse% eller mer (mest foretrukket 99 % eller mer), en porøsitet på 1 % eller mer og en porediameter på 20 µm eller mindre, og har en tykkelse på 0,05-50 mm og et metallhalogenid anvendes som det elektrolyttiske badet. Fremgangsmåten kan anvendes for fremstilling av metaller slik som kalsium eller sjeldne jordmetaller, spesielt.
