Abstract
Fremgangsmåte ved fremstilling av hydrofobt siliciumdioxyd
Description
Fra britisk patentskrift nr. 932753 som svarer til belgisk patentskrift nr. 595889, er det kjent å fremstille hydrofobt siliciumdioxyd ved å behandle siliciumdioxyd med en overflate av over 50 m 2/g med f.eks. octamethylcyclotetrasiloxan, dvs. en organosiliciumforbindelse med 4 siliciumatomer pr. molekyl, hvor til hvert siliciumatom 2 carbongrupper er bundet og hvor siliciumvalenser som ikke er mettet med disse hydrocarbongrupper, er mettet med siloxanoxygenatomer, og med minst en ytterligere forbindelse, dvs. en syre. Sammenlignet med denne kjente fremgangsmåte byr den foreliggende fremgangsmåte i det minste på de fordeler at de på grunn av den samtidige anvendelse av en syre betingede korrosjons-risikoer kan unngås og at den foreliggende fremgangsmåte gir et mer hydrofobt siliciumdioxyd.
Oppfinnelsen angår således en fremgangsmåte ved fremstilling av hydrofobt siliciumdioxyd ved behandling av siliciumdioxyd med en overflate av minst 50 m 2/g med minst én organosiliciumforbindelse med 2-4 siliciumatomer pr. molekyl, hvor til hvert siliciumatom minst 2 hydrocarbongrupper er bundet og hvor de siliciumvalenser som ikke er mettet med disse hydrocarbongrupper, er mettet med siloxanoxygenatomer, og med minst en ytterligere forbindelse, og fremgangsmåten er særpreget ved at foruten organosiliciumforbindelse anvendes minst én tinnforbindelse som inneholder halogen som er bundet direkte til tinn, og/eller organiske grupper.
De heri angitte verdier for størrelsen av siliciumdioxydets overflate er BET-verdier, dvs. verdier som er blitt bestemt ved adsorpsjon av nitrogen i overensstemmelse med ASTM Special Technical Publication No. 51, 1941, fra side 95.
Som siliciumdioxyd med en overflate av minst 50 m 2/g foretrekkes pyrogent fremstilt siliciumdioxyd. Om ønsket kan imidlertid også avvannet siliciumdioxydhydrogel under beholdelse av strukturen og et annet felt siliciumdioxyd med en overflate av minst 50 m 2/g anvendes.
Hydrocarbongruppene i de ifølge oppfinnelsen anvendte organo-siliciumf orbindelser inneholder fortrinnsvis 1-12 carbonatomer.
Det langt viktigste eksempel på slike hydrocarbongrupper er methylgruppen..Ytterligere eksempler på slike hydrocarbongrupper er andre alkylgrupper enn methylgruppen, som ethyl-, n-propyl-, isopropyl- og n-butylgruppen, og dessuten dodecylgrupper, cycloalkylgrupper som cyclohexylgruppen, alkenylgrupper som vinylgruppen, arylgrupper som fenylgruppen, alkarylgrupper som tolylgrupper, og aralkyl-grupper som benzylgruppen.
De viktigste eksempler på organosiliciumforbindelser som
er anvendbare ifølge oppfinnelsen, er hexamethyldisiloxan, hexamethylcyclotrisiloxan, octamethylcyclotetrasiloxan og 1,3,5,7-tetramethyl-1,3,5,7-tetravinylcyclotetrasiloxan.
Organosiliciumforbindelsen anvendes fortrinnsvis i en mengde av 4-40 vekt%, basert på vekten av den hver gang anvendte mengde siliciumdioxyd.
Dersom halogen som er direkte bundet til tinn foreligger i tinnforbindelsene som kan anvendes ifølge oppfinnelsen, kan halogenet være fluor, klor, brom eller jod. På grunn at det er lettere tilgjengelig, foretrekkes klor.
Dersom organiske grupper forekommer i de tinnforbindelser som kan anvendes ifølge oppfinnelsen, inneholder disse grupper fortrinnsvis 1-15 carbonatomer og er oppbygget av carbon- og hydrogenatomer og eventuelt oxygen-, klor- og svovelatomer.
Enkelte eksempler på tinnforbindelser som kan anvendes ifølge oppfinnelsen, er tinntetraklorid, di-n-butyltinnlaurat, di-2-ethylhexyltinnmaleat, di-n-butyltinnadipat, di-n-butyltinndiklorid, di-n-butyltinndibenzoat, di-n-butyltinndilactat, tinn(II)-2-ethyl-hexoat, di-n-butyltinn-di-2-ethylhexoat, di-n-butyltinndiacetat, carbomethoxyfenyltinntrisuberat, dimethyltinndibutyrat, divinyl-tinndiacetat, diisoamyltinnbistriklorbenzoat, triethyltinntartrat, tri-n-butyltinnacetat, trifenyltinnacetat, tricyclohexyltinn-acrylat, tritolyltinnterefthalat, di-n-butyltinndimethoxyd, di-methyltinndiethoxyd, di-n-butyltinndi-n-butoxyd, tinntetraiso- propoxyd, tinntetramethoxyd, tributyltinnmethoxyd, tinnnafthenat, bis-(di-n-butyltinnoleat)-oxyd, bis-(di-n-butyltinnstearat)-oxyd, di-n-butyltinnoleathydroxyd og. dibutyltinn-n-butoxyklorid og dessuten et di-n-butyltinndiacylat, idet acylatgruppene er avledet fra en blanding av carboxylsyrer med 9-11 carbonatomer pr. molekyl, hvori carboxylgruppen for minst 90 vekt% av syrene er bundet til et tertiært carbonatom.
Dersom korrosjonsrisiko som er betinget av Sn-bundet halogen, skal unngås, foretrekkes tinnforbindelser som er.frie for Sn-bundet halogen, som di-n-butyltinnlaurat.
Tinnforbindelsene anvendes fortrinnsvis i en mengde av 0,001-10 vekt%, basert på vekten av den hver gang foreliggende mengde siliciumdioxyd.
Behandlingen av siliciumdioxyd med en overflate av minst
50 m 2/g med en organosilicium- og tinnforbindelse kan utføres ved enkel blanding, påsprøyting eller pådamping hhv. pågassing, f.eks. i en blandetrommel eller en beholder som eventuelt er forsynt med et røreverk, eller i hvirvelskiktapparater eller måle-apparater, som strålemøller eller kulemøller.
Under og/eller efter behandlingen av siliciumdioxydet med organosilicium- og tinnforbindelsen kan siliciumdioxydet oppvarmes, fortrinnsvis til en temperatur av 50-350°C. Denne oppvarming er imidlertid ikke ubetinget nødvendig. Den foreliggende fremgangsmåte kan derimot utføres med godt resultat også ved værelse-temperatur, dvs. ved ca. 18°C.
Den foreliggende fremgangsmåte utføres fortrinnsvis ved
det omgivende atmosfæretrykk, dvs. ved ca. 1 bar. Om ønsket kan imidlertid også høyere eller lavere trykk anvendes.
Dersom en oppvarming foretas ved utførelsen av den foreliggende fremgangsmåte, kan en behandlingstid på 5 minutter -
5 timer være tilstrekkelig.
Oppløsningsmidler som er inerte overfor de anvendte organosilicium- og tinnforbindelser, som alifatiskeeller aromatiske hydrocarboner som er flytende ved 18°C og 1 bar, ethere og ketoner, f.eks. benzen, toluen, xylen, aceton eller diethylether, kan også anvendes. Fortrinnsvis anvendes de imidlertid ikke.
De ifølge oppfinnelsen fremstilte produkter kan anvendes overalt hvor det er fordelaktig med anvendelse av hydrofobt, findelt siliciumdioxyd. Et eksempel på en slik anvendelse er spesielt som fyllstoff eller som en del av fyllstoffene i til elastomere herdbare masser på basis av diorganopolysiloxaner som fornettes ved kondensasjon i nærvær av kondensasjonskataly-satorer, som tinnforbindelser. Ytterligere eksempler på anvendel-sesmuligheter for de ifølge oppfinnelsen fremstilte produkter er som matteringsmiddel i lakker, som fyllstoffer for termoplaster som polyvinylklorid, for herdeplaster som fenol/formaldehyd-harpikser, og for naturlig eller syntetisk rent organisk kautsjuk, som bestanddeler i brannslukningspulvere. og som varmeisolasjons-materiale.
I de nedenstående eksempler og sammenligningsforsøk er methanoltallet angitt som mål for hydrofoberingen. Denne verdi bestemmes på følgende måte: 0,2 g .av siliciumdioxydet som skal undersøkes, strøs på 50 ml vann. Methanol tilsettes til vannet under omrøring fra en byrette med spissen neddykket i vann inntil ca. 95 vekt% av siliciumdioxydet har dukket under. Forbruket av methanol i ml er methanoltallet.
Eksempel 1
10 g fra gassfase pyrogent fremstilt siliciumdioxyd med en overflate av 300 + -3o m 2/g som selges under handelsbetegnelsen "HDK T 30", oppvarmes i en rundkolbe i et tørkeskap med luft-sirkulasjon til 200°C. Derefter henges en glassbeholder med ca. 200 mg tinntetraklorid i rundkolbens gassrom over siliciumdioxydet, og kolben stenges og oppvarmes igjen i tørkeskapet til 200°C. Efter at tinntetrakloridet er blitt fordampet, tilsettes 3 g octamethylcyclotetrasiloxan til glassbeholderen hvori tinntetrakloridet befant seg, og kolben stenges og oppvarmes igjen i tørkeskapet til 200°C. Efter 2 timer fjernes uforbrukt organo-siliciumf orbindelse ved evakuering av den fremdeles varme kolbe.
Eksempel 2
Den i eksempel 1 beskrevne metode gjentas, men med den forandring at istedenfor 3 g octamethylcyclotetrasiloxan anvendes 3 g av en blanding av 1 vektdel hexamethylcyclotrisiloxan og 3,17
vektdeler octamethylcyclotetrasiloxan.
Eksempel 3
Den i eksempel 1 beskrevne metode gjentas, men med den forandring at istedenfor 3 g octamethylcyclotetrasiloxan anvendes 3 g av en blanding av 1 vektdel hexamethylcyclotrisiloxan og 1,5 vektdeler octamethylcyclotetrasiloxan.
Eksempel 4
Den i eksempel 1 beskrevne metode gjentas, men med den forandring at istedenfor 3 g octamethylcyclotetrasiloxan anvendes 3 g hexamethylcyclotrisiloxan.
Eksempel 5
20 g fra gassfase pyrogent fremstilt siliciumdioxyd med en +2
overflate av 200 - 20 m /g som selges under handelsbetegnelsen
"HDK N 20", besprøytes med en blanding av 2 g av en blanding av 1 vektdel hexamethylcyclotrisiloxan og 1,5 vektdeler octamethylcyclotetrasiloxan og 2 mg di-n-butyltinndilaurat.. Derefter fylles siliciumdioxydet i bokser av plast. Boksene blir derefter stengt og oppvarmet i et tørkeskap i 2 timer til 100°C mens de hyppig rystes.

Claims (1)
1. Fremgangsmåte ved fremstilling av hydrofobt siliciumdioxyd ved behandling av siliciumdioxyd med en overflate av minst 50 m 2/g med minst én organosiliciumforbindelse med 2-4 siliciumatomer pr. molekyl hvor minst 2 hydrocarbongrupper er bundet til hvert siliciumatom og hvor de siliciumvalenser som ikke er mettet av disse hydrocarbongrupper, er mettet med siloxanoxygenatomer, og med minst én ytterligere forbindelse, karakterisert ved at foruten organosiliciumforbindelsen anvendes minst én tinnforbindelse som inneholder halogen som er direkte bundet til tinn, og/eller organiske grupper.
