Abstract

This method utilizes antibodies that bind to cellular antigens to form antigen:antibody complexes and/or antigen:antibody:complement complexes, which in turn inhibit or prevent the binding of HIV:antibody complexes or HIV:antibody:complement complexes or HIV:complement complexes to the cells in lymphoid tissues. By inhibiting the concentration of HIV complexes bound to lymphoid tissues, the burden of virally infected cells is reduced, and the effectiveness of anti-retroviral agents is increased, and virus inactivation in the bloodstream is increased. The reduced concentration or absence of HIV in lymphoid tissue prevents infection of CD4+ T cells therein.
