Abstract

Både fleksible og stive vinylkloridpolymerblandinger omfattende en latent merkaptan- holdig varmestabilisator er i det vesentlige frie for den ubehagelige lukten som typisk er forbundet med merkaptaner og er beskyttet under behandlingen ved hjelp av nedbrytningsproduktene av den latente (dvs blokkerte) merkaptanforbindelsen som omfatter et fritt merkaptan. Det frie merkaptanet som således frigjøres forsterker aktiviteten til metallbaserte varmestabilisatorer slik som sinkkarboksylater og organo- tinnkarboksylater og -merkaptider i polymerblandingen. Andre produkter ved ned- brytningen antas å omfatte karbokationer av den blokkerende delen som er stabilisert av en molekylstruktur i hvilken elektronmangelen deles av flere grupper. Den latente merkaptanforbindelsen er valgt fra gruppen bestående av en 2-S-(tetrahydropyranyl)- tioalkanol og en karboksylsyreester derav.
