En fremgangsmåte for fremstilling av et eterkarboksylatsalt hvor eterkarboksylatsaltet oppnås med godt utbytte og mengden av kostbar katalysator som anvendes kan innspares og gjenvinningen av katalysatoren er lett. Fremgangsmåten for fremstilling av et eterkarboksylatsalt omfatter foretringstrinnet med omsetning av en hydroksylgruppeinneholdende, organisk forbindelse og en karboksylgruppeinneholdende, organisk forbindelse i et vandig medium i nærvær av en katalysator inneholdende et sjeldent jordmetall, i det den karboksylgruppeinneholdende, organiske forbindelse er minst en forbindelse utvalgt fra gruppen som består av karboksylgruppeinneholdende, umettede, organiske forbindelser og karboksylgruppeinneholdende epoksyforbindelser. Fremgangsmåten er kjennetegnet ved at pH i det vandige medium i området 9-13, men ikke inkludert 9, og ved at mengden av katalysator som anvendes er i området 0,0001-0,4 mol pr l mol av den karboksylgruppeinneholdende, organiske forbindelse.
