Description

Przedmiotem wynalazku jest sposób wytwarza¬ nia zywic fenolowych typu nowolakowego. Uzyskuje sie 1000 g zywicy o temperaturze topnienia 73—77°C.Przyklad II. 940 g fenolu (10 moli) i 713 g 37% formaliny (8,8 mola farmaldehydu) ogrze¬ wa sie w reaktorze zaopatrzonym w mieszadlo, termometr i chlodnice zwrotna. W temperaturze 85—90°C dodaje sie 6 g (0,06 mola) bezwodnika maleinowego. Uzyskuje sie 1015 g zywicy o temperatu¬ rze topnienia 68—73°C.Przyklad III. — porównawczy. 940 g (10 mo- 10 20 li) fenolu i 689 g 37°/o formaliny (8,5 mola for¬ maldehydu) ogrzewa sie w reaktorze zaopatrzo¬ nym w mieszadlo, termometr i chlodnice zwrotna.W temperaturze 80—85°C dodaje sie 11,6 g (0,1 mo¬ la) kwasu maleinowego. Z-d 2 — 251/87 — 90 Cena 130 zl PLThe present invention relates to a process for the preparation of novolak-type phenolic resins. Novolak-type phenolic resins are well known. They are produced by the condensation of phenols with formaldehyde in the presence of an acid catalyst. For example, British Patent No. 1,275,895 states that maleic acid may be used as a condensation catalyst. In the initial stage, the condensation which catalyzes the acid-derived hydrogen cations proceeds very quickly. Since this is an exothermic reaction, there is a risk of overheating the reaction mixture over a short period of time due to the release of large amounts of heat and boiling over from the reactor. Maleic acid appeared to be replaced with maleic anhydride, which is a raw material. much more easily available, it will not cause significant changes in the course of condensation, because this anhydride in the presence of water undergoes rapid hydrolysis, especially at elevated temperatures, and the reaction mixture contains significant amounts of water (introduced from formalin). Surprisingly, however, it turned out that the condensate was The operation in the presence of maleic anhydride is much more gentle in the initial, most dangerous stage of condensation than when maleic acid is used. This phenomenon can be explained by the gradual increase in the concentration of hydrogen ions catalyzing the condensation reactions resulting from the slow hydrolysis of maleic anhydride, probably due to the solvation of maleic anhydride molecules by phenol or formaldehyde molecules. the reaction in the initial stage, which does not affect the total condensation time, is much more gentle, thus reducing the likelihood of overheating the reaction mixture. The wider range of melting points compared to the novolak obtained in the presence of maleic acid proves that the resin produced by the method according to the invention is more homogeneous and contains a smaller amount of fractions with a high molecular weight, thanks to which its properties are better. The maleic anhydride is introduced in an amount of 0.005-0.02 mole / mole phenol. Phenol itself, cresols, xylenols, alkyl and aryl phenols, and mixtures thereof are used as phenols. Formaldehyde used as the source of formaldehyde is formalin. The condensation is carried out with a molar ratio of formaldehyde to phenol ranging from 0.7 to 0.95 and preferably from 0.84 to 0.90. Example 1 940 g (10 moles) ) phenol and 689 g of 37% formalin (8.5 moles of formaldehyde) were heated in a reactor equipped with a stirrer, thermometer and reflux condenser. At a temperature of 80-85 ° C, 10 g (0.1 mol) of maleic anhydride are added. At the same time, the heating is turned off - 140 077140 077 no. After about 10 minutes, the mixture reaches a mild boiling, which gradually disappears. The mixture is then heated to reflux for 4 hours and then dehydrated under a reduced pressure of 10-20 kPa. 1000 g of resin are recovered, mp 73-77 ° C. Example II. 940 g of phenol (10 moles) and 713 g of 37% formalin (8.8 moles of farmaldehyde) were heated in a reactor equipped with a stirrer, thermometer and reflux condenser. At a temperature of 85-90 ° C, 6 g (0.06 mol) of maleic anhydride are added. At the same time, the heating is turned off. After about 15 minutes, the mixture reaches a gentle boiling, which gradually disappears. The mixture is then heated to reflux for 4.5 hours and then distilled under reduced pressure of 10-15 kPa. The yield is 1015 g of resin with a melting point of 68 ° -73 ° C. Example III. - comparative. 940 g (10 moles) of phenol and 689 g of 37% formalin (8.5 moles of formaldehyde) were heated in a reactor equipped with a stirrer, thermometer and reflux condenser. At 80-85 ° C. 11.6 g (0.1 mol) of maleic acid are added. After 5 minutes the mixture reaches a violent boiling state, so it is necessary to cool the reactor. After the exothermic reaction has ceased, the mixture is refluxed for 4 hours, followed by distillation under reduced pressure of 10-20 kPa. 995 g of resin with a melting point of 72-79 ° C are recovered.
