Description
Przedmiotem wynalazku jest sposób wytwarzania 1,2-propanodiolu w reakcji hydrogenolizy glicerolu w obecności katalizatora CuCr2O4.The subject of the invention is a process for the production of 1,2-propanediol by hydrogenolysis of glycerol in the presence of a CuCr2O4 catalyst.
Hydrogenoliza glicerolu do 1,2-propanodiolu stanowi jeden z interesujących procesów zagospodarowania odpadowego glicerolu, pochodzącego z produkcji biodiesla. Hydrogenolysis of glycerol to 1,2-propanediol is one of the interesting processes for the management of waste glycerol from the production of biodiesel. It is estimated that in 2016 the world production of biodiesel will amount to 123.4 Mt, which will generate 13.6 Mt of waste glycerol. The use of waste glycerol for the production of high-value products such as 1,2-propanediol would increase the economics of biodiesel production. 1,2-propanediol is used in many industries, e.g. in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and food industries. It is used in the production of numerous products: liquid detergents, composites, adhesives, laminates, paints and coatings, new aliphatic polyesters. In addition, 1,2-propanediol acts as a coolant in aircraft coolants and de-icing fluids. The industrial method of producing 1,2-propanediol in the glycerol hydrogenolysis process is much simpler than the currently used process, based on petrochemical raw materials. The catalysts for glycerol hydrogenolysis are metals and their oxides, deposited on inorganic supports. Due to the high efficiency of hydrogenation-dehydrogenation of the CO bond and cleavage of the CC bond, it is advantageous to use copper catalysts, e.g. CuCr 2 O 4 , Cu / Al 2 O 3 , CuO-MgO, Cu / ZnO. Coordination unsaturated copper ions (Cu + , Cu 0 ) in copper catalysts create active sites for glycerol hydrogenolysis. One of the copper catalysts enabling high glycerol conversion and high selectivity of conversion to 1,2-propanediol is CuCr2O4 (copper-chromite). The high activity of the CuCr2O4 catalyst in the hydrogenolysis of glycerol results from its large specific surface area, porosity and specific structure. In a hydrogen-reduced CuCr2O4 catalyst, the metallic copper particles are epitaxially bound to the copper oxide phase structure.
Hydrogenolizę glicerolu do 1,2-propanodiolu w obecności katalizatora miedź-chromit opisuje patent USA 7 663 004. Stosowano katalizator o składzie: 45% CuO, 47% Cr2O3, 3,5% MnO2, 2,7% BaO. Proces prowadzono okresowo w aparaturze zbudowanej z reaktora, skraplacza i zbiornika kondensatu. Do reaktora wprowadzano wodny roztwór glicerolu o stężeniu 20-100% wag., zawierający 5% wag. katalizatora w odniesieniu do glicerolu i wodór pod ciśnieniem 13,8 atm. W reakcjach prowadzonych w bardziej rozcieńczonych roztworach wodnych glicerolu - 20 i 60% wag. konwersje glicerolu i selektywności przemian do 1,2-propanodiolu wynosiły odpowiednio: 33,5 i 48,0%, oraz 64,8% i 59,4%. Chem. 2010, 20, 755-760. Katalizator przygotowano metodą zol-żel: 1,0 g Cu(NO3)2*3H2O i 3,3 g Cr(NO3)3*9H2O rozpuszczano w 16 ml etanolu w 60°C, dodawano 5 ml tlenku propylenu, intensywnie mieszając, a następnie poddawano suszeniu przez noc w 70°C. Otrzymany żel umieszczano w kwarcowym reaktorze, wewnątrz oporowego pieca rurowego i ogrzewano z szybkością 1°C/min do temperatury 120°C w atmosferze 20% tlenu w argonie, przy szybkości przepływu 120 ml/min. Podczas przygotowania katalizatora stosowano różne stosunki molowe Cu(NO3)2*H2O do Cr(NO3)3*:9H2O, dzięki czemu otrzymywano katalizatory o różnych stosunkach molowych miedzi do chromu w zakresie 0-3,2. Do autoklawu wprowadzano 60 ml wodnego roztworu glicerolu o stężeniu 60% wag., katalizator w ilości 5% wag. w odniesieniu do glicerolu i wodór pod ciśnieniem 41 atm. Temperatura hydrogenolizy wynosiła 210°C. W obecności katalizatora o stosunku molowym Cu/Cr = 3,2, poddanego kalcynowaniu w 500°C konwersja glicerolu wynosiła 52,0%, przy selektywności przemiany do 1,2-propanodiolu 88,0%. W obecności katalizatora o stosunku moPL 215 799 B1 lowym Cu/Cr = 0,2, kalcynowanego w temperaturze 300°C, uzyskano konwersję glicerolu 0,2%, przy selektywności przemiany do 1,2-propanodiolu 100%.Hydrogenolysis of glycerol to 1,2-propanediol in the presence of a copper-chromite catalyst is described in US patent 7,663,004. A catalyst was used with the composition: 45% CuO, 47% Cr2O3, 3.5% MnO2, 2.7% BaO. The process was carried out periodically in an apparatus consisting of a reactor, condenser and condensate tank. An aqueous solution of glycerol with a concentration of 20-100 wt.% Containing 5 wt. of the catalyst with respect to glycerol and hydrogen at a pressure of 13.8 atm. Hydrogenolysis was performed at 200 ° C for 24 hours. Forming vapors of 1,2-propanediol, water and lower alcohols were directed to the condenser and the condensate was collected in the product tank. Unreacted hydrogen and non-condensing vapors from the condenser were recycled to the reactor. In a reaction in which an 80 wt.% Aqueous glycerol solution was used. the glycerol conversion was 54.0 wt.%. with a selectivity of the conversion to 1,2-propanediol 85.0%. Use of a higher concentration of glycerol: 90-100 wt%. increased the glycerol conversion to 58.8-69.1%, with a lower selectivity of the conversion to 1,2-propanediol - 80.3%. In reactions carried out in more dilute aqueous solutions of glycerol - 20 and 60% by weight. glycerol conversions and selectivity to 1,2-propanediol were respectively: 33.5 and 48.0%, and 64.8% and 59.4%. The disadvantage of the process is the use of complicated equipment for the production of 1,2-propanediol and the low degree of glycerol conversion, up to 69%. The process of hydrogenolysis of glycerol to 1,2-propanediol in the presence of a copper-chromite catalyst is also shown by Ma Z., Bokhoven van AJ, Liang Ch, in J. Mater. Chem. 2010, 20, 755-760. The catalyst was prepared by the sol-gel method: 1.0 g of Cu (NO3) 2 * 3H2O and 3.3 g of Cr (NO3) 3 * 9H2O were dissolved in 16 ml of ethanol at 60 ° C, 5 ml of propylene oxide was added with intense stirring, and then it was dried overnight at 70 ° C. The resulting gel was placed in a quartz reactor inside a resistance tube furnace and heated at a rate of 1 ° C / min to a temperature of 120 ° C under an atmosphere of 20% oxygen in argon, with a flow rate of 120 ml / min. During the preparation of the catalyst, various molar ratios of Cu (NO3) 2 * H2O to Cr (NO3) 3 * : 9H2O were used, thanks to which catalysts with various molar ratios of copper to chromium in the range of 0-3.2 were obtained. Before the reaction, the catalysts were calcined at 300 ° C or 500 ° C and then reduced with hydrogen in a fluidized bed reactor at 300 ° C for 2 hours. Hydrogenolysis was carried out in a 100 ml stainless steel autoclave. 60 ml of an aqueous glycerol solution with a concentration of 60% by weight, a catalyst in an amount of 5% by weight, were introduced into the autoclave. with respect to glycerol and hydrogen at 41 atm. The hydrogenolysis temperature was 210 ° C. In the presence of a catalyst with a mole ratio of Cu / Cr = 3.2, calcined at 500 ° C, the conversion of glycerol was 52.0%, with a selectivity of conversion to 1,2-propanediol of 88.0%. In the presence of the catalyst with a molecular ratio of Cu / Cr = 0.2, calcined at the temperature of 300 ° C, a glycerol conversion of 0.2% was obtained, with the selectivity of the conversion to 1,2-propanediol 100%.
Zastosowanie katalizatora miedź-chromit, przygotowanego metodą zol-żel w hydrogenolizie glicerolu opisał również Xiao Z., Ma Z., Wang X., Williams T. Ch. i Liang Ch. w Ind. Eng. Chem. Res. 2011, 50, 2031-2039. Katalizator przygotowano w następujący sposób: 2,9 g Cu(NO3)2*3H2O i 9,8 g Cr(NO3)3*9H2O rozpuszczono w 47 ml etanolu w temperaturze 60°C, po czym dodano 18 ml tlenku propylenu. A disadvantage of the process is the complicated method of preparing the catalyst. It is also unfavorable to introduce significant amounts of water with the substrate - 40% by weight. Excessive amounts of water shift the reaction equilibrium towards the reactants. High substrate dilution also increases the cost of separating 1,2-propanediol from the reaction mixture by distillation. The use of a copper-chromite catalyst prepared by the sol-gel method in the hydrogenolysis of glycerol has also been described by Xiao Z., Ma Z., Wang X., Williams T. Ch. and Liang Ch. in Ind. Eng. Chem. Res. 2011, 50, 2031-2039. The catalyst was prepared as follows: 2.9 g Cu (NO3) 2 * 3H2O and 9.8 g Cr (NO3) 3 * 9H2O were dissolved in 47 ml of ethanol at 60 ° C, and then 18 ml of propylene oxide was added. The formed gel was dried under air and held at 75 ° C for 15 h. The resulting gel was placed in a quartz reactor and transferred to a resistance tube furnace which was heated at a rate of 1 ° C / min to a temperature of 400 or 500 ° C. The temperature was kept at 400 or 500 ° C for 120 min. Argon or a mixture containing 20% oxygen in argon was passed through while heating.
Podczas procesu powstały produkty uboczne: 1-propanol, 2-propanol oraz acetol z selektywnością: 36,0%, 2,0%, 8,0%.Before the reaction hydrogenolysis catalyst was reduced in a fluidized bed reactor using city gas mixture 3 - 10% hydrogen in argon at a flow rate of 100 cm 3 / min. The reduction was performed at 300 ° C for 2 hours. The hydrogenolysis process was carried out in a 100 ml autoclave, made of stainless steel, equipped with a mechanical stirrer and a temperature controller. 60 ml of an aqueous glycerol solution with a concentration of 60% by weight was introduced into the autoclave. and 5 wt.%. of the catalyst with respect to glycerol and hydrogen at 41 atm. The process was carried out in the liquid phase at 210 ° C for 10 hours. The stirring speed was 150 rpm. A glycerol conversion of 32.0% was achieved with a selectivity of the conversion to 1,2-propanediol of 54.0%. During the process, by-products were formed: 1-propanol, 2-propanol and acetol with selectivity: 36.0%, 2.0%, 8.0%.
A disadvantage of this process is the low conversion of glycerol and the selectivity of the conversion to 1,2-propanediol. Moreover, similarly to the first described process, the method of obtaining the catalyst is relatively complicated.
The process uses high hydrogen pressure - 41 atm and a significant dilution of glycerol with water.
Redukcję katalizatora prowadzi się w temperaturze w 200-300°C w czasie 8-24 godz., a ilość katalizatora w odniesieniu do wprowadzonego glicerolu wynosi 5: 8% wag. Stosunek molowy wodoru do glicerolu wynosi 1,5:1: 3,5:1. Korzystnie intensywność mieszania wyrażona obrotami mieszadła magnetycznego wynosi 100-300 obr./min.The process according to the invention, consisting in the hydrogenolysis reaction of glycerol, carried out in the presence of the CuCr2O4 catalyst, is characterized by the use of a catalyst obtained by the co-precipitation method, which, prior to the hydrogenolysis reaction, is reduced with hydrogen in a fluidized bed, and then it is introduced into a pressurized reactor containing an aqueous solution glycerol with a concentration of 80-100%. Then, the air is removed from the reactor by repeatedly filling it with hydrogen to a pressure of 20-50 atm and reducing the pressure to atmospheric, followed by hydrogenolysis at a temperature of 200: 240 ° C, at an operating pressure of 30-55 atm, maintained for the time of 8-24 hours, stirring intensively. After the reaction, the reactor is cooled to room temperature, the pressure is reduced to atmospheric pressure, the catalyst is separated from the liquid phase and the 1,2-propanediol is separated by distillation. The reduction of the catalyst is carried out at a temperature of 200-300 ° C for 8-24 hours, and the amount of the catalyst, based on the glycerol used, is 5: 8% by weight. The molar ratio of hydrogen to glycerol is 1.5: 1: 3.5: 1. Preferably, the agitation intensity expressed by the rotation of the magnetic stirrer is 100-300 rpm.
The use of the CuCr2O4 copper catalyst obtained by the co-precipitation method allows to obtain 1,2-propanediol with high selectivity and high glycerol conversion. Compared to the catalyst preparation methods described in the publications, the new method does not use propylene oxide and its reduction is carried out in a much simpler manner.
