Abstract
The subject of the application is a method of producing a paraffin-polyolefin emulsion, which consists in mixing 500 parts by weight of refined paraffin from petroleum processing, which is a mixture of solid, high-molecular hydrocarbons, mainly n- and/or synthetic paraffin from the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, with 40 - 60 parts by weight of glycerol monostearate, with 20 - 35 parts by weight of sodium stearate and with 5 - 15 parts by weight of fatty acid esters of the EO-PO-EO copolymer, and then gradually introduced water at a temperature of 85 - 95°C is added so that the temperature of the reactor content does not fall below 88°C, the reactor content is stirred at a temperature of 90 - 99°C for 10 - 60 minutes, and then it is subjected to two-stage homogenization at least once, passing the contents of the reactor through a high-pressure homogenizer at a pressure of 5 - 60 MPa in the first homogenization stage and at a pressure of 0.1 - 10.0 MPa in the second homogenization stage.
Description
Opis wynalazkuDescription of the invention
Przedmiotem wynalazku jest sposób wytwarzania emulsji wodno-parafinowej do impregnacji papieru przeznaczonego przede wszystkim do kontaktu z żywnością.The subject of the invention is a method of producing a water-paraffin emulsion for impregnation of paper intended primarily for contact with food.
Emulsions are used in many industries, such as cosmetics, pharmaceutical, agricultural, food, crop protection, textile, construction, paint and varnish, paper, leather processing, mining, electroplating, protective agents, petrochemical and cleaning agents. Aqueous wax emulsions are used in the production of cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, food industry, textile industry, construction, paper industry and protective agents.
Środek powlekający opakowanie tekturowe do żywności powinien zapewnić odpowiednie właściwości barierowe przeciwko przenikaniu niepożądanych substancji z samego opakowania do żywności. Wyniki wielu badań potwierdzają możliwość migracji do żywności potencjalnie szkodliwych substancji z opakowań, szczególnie produkowanych z tektury pochodzącej z recyklingu (Jurek, A.; Leitner, E. Food Additives & Contaminants: Part A, 2015; O’Connor, G.; Hudson, N.; Buckley, S. Pack. Technol. Sci. 2015, 28, 75-79; Arvanitoyannis, I.; Bosnea, L. Crit. Rev. Food Sci. 2004, 44, 63-76; Lamberti, M.; Escher, F. Food Rev. Int 2007, 23, 407-433).Packaging is a barrier between the product and external factors, the main function of which is to maintain adequate protection of the content, especially if it is a food product. In order to improve the protective properties of packaging, it is recommended to impregnate them. Impregnations should be characterized by appropriate water resistance, ease of application, possibly low price and, above all, safety of use. The coating agent for the food carton package should provide adequate barrier properties against the penetration of undesirable substances from the package itself into the food. The results of many studies confirm the possibility of migration of potentially harmful substances into food from packaging, especially those produced from recycled cardboard (Jurek, A.; Leitner, E. Food Additives & Contaminants: Part A, 2015; O'Connor, G.; Hudson, N., Buckley, S. Pack. Technol. Sci. 2015, 28, 75-79, Arvanitoyannis, I., Bosnea, L. Crit. Rev. Food Sci. 2004, 44, 63-76, Lamberti, M.; Escher, F. Food Rev. Int 2007, 23, 407-433).
Jak pokazały badania, przed migracją nie chronią całkowicie nawet wielowarstwowe laminaty polietylenowo-aluminiowe typu Tetra Pak.As research has shown, even Tetra Pak multi-layer polyethylene-aluminium laminates do not completely protect against migration.
Currently, varnishes, waxes and layers of thermoplastic polymers are used as impregnations for food packaging. The high hydrophobicity of these coatings prevents effective recycling of the packaging covered with them due to the difficulty in removing the impregnation. Other types of protective coatings are polymer dispersions (BASF), characterized by good protective properties, but their cost is too high or, in the light of the EU Directive and Regulation 76/893/EEC; 89/109/EEC and EC No. 1935/2004, are not suitable for contact with food.

In the emulsions obtained by the method according to the invention, in examples 1-10, the TSI index and the apparent viscosity are determined.
Indeks TSI - Turbiscan Stability lndex odzwierciedla zmiany destabilizacyjne zachodzące w emulsjach otrzymanych w przykładach. The TSI - Turbiscan Stability Index reflects the destabilization changes occurring in the emulsions obtained in the examples. The index allows you to quantify the degree of occurrence of these changes in a sample. Such changes may be, for example, creaming, coagulation, coalescence of droplets or sedimentation.
Indeks stabilności TSI jest wyznaczany z porównania danych otrzymanych w określonym czasie z określoną częstotliwością pomiarów:The measurement is carried out with the Turbiscan device. The measurement consists in scanning the sample with a pulsating near-infrared light source (wavelength 880 nm). The results, i.e. the value of transmittance (T) and intensity of backscattered light (RW) are collected using two detectors, respectively transmittance and intensity of scattered light, depending on the height of the measuring vessel, every 40 pm. The data, collected with a programmed frequency, allow to visualize the successively occurring states of the tested substance, characterizing the stability of the product. According to the theory of light scattering (Mie theory [Hahn, David W. (July 2009). Light Scattering Theory University of Florida]), the value of backscattered light intensity depends on the size and concentration of particles in the dispersion. the greater the differences compared to the starting material are determined in the test and the higher the TSI values are obtained. The stability index TSI is determined by comparing the data obtained over a certain period of time with a certain frequency of measurements:

J η - 1 gdzie:J η - 1 where:
Xi jest średnią wartością natężenia światła rozproszonego w danej chwili, xrw jest średnią x, a n jest całkowitą liczbą pomiarów, RW - natężenie rozproszonego światła.Xi is the average value of the scattered light intensity at a given moment, xrw is the average of x, and n is the total number of measurements, RW - the scattered light intensity.
Im niższa wartość TSI, tym mniej zmian zachodzi w próbce. The lower the TSI value, the less change occurs in the sample.
Lepkości pozorna.Apparent viscosity.
Determination of the apparent viscosity of the emulsion using the Brookfield method is performed according to the PN-ISO 2555 standard using a Brookfield RVDV-II+ viscometer. The temperature of the samples (23°C) is maintained during the measurement with a Brookfield thermostat. The measurement is performed by placing a measuring tip (spindle) in the sample, which then performs a rotational movement with a given speed. The spindle is coupled with a calibrated spring. The deformation of the spring caused by the resistance force inhibiting the rotation of the spindle, which results from the viscosity of the sample, is measured. Measurements are made at 23°C using a #28 spindle and 100 rpm.
The high viscosity in examples 2 and 6, in which the ester of lauric acid and EO-PO-EO copolymer is used, may be caused by a greater interaction of the emulsified emulsion particles with each other than in the case of other emulsifiers, which leads to an increase in shear stresses in the emulsion, and thus to a higher apparent viscosity and, consequently, to a higher stability of the emulsion obtained on its basis. This is also consistent with the conclusions obtained for other ester-type emulsifiers, among which lauric acid esters showed the best emulsion properties.
