Abstract

The method of obtaining highly-alkaline phenol-formaldehyde resins in a multistage process of condensation of phenol with formaldehyde catalyzed with alkali metal hydroxides is based on the fact that in the first stage, condensation of phenol with formaldehyde is carried out at a molar ratio of phenol: formaldehyde in the range of 1: 1.6 ÷ 2.3, in the presence of 0.05 ÷ 0.25 mole of alkali metal hydroxides or mixtures thereof, at a temperature of 60 ÷ 70 ° C until it reacts above 80 mole% phenol, after which water in the amount of 0.5 ÷ 3.0 mole per 1 is introduced mole of phenol, followed by the second part 0.40 ÷ 0.60 mole of alkali metal hydroxides or mixtures thereof and the process is continued at 60 ÷ 90 ° C until viscosity (500 ÷ 5000) mPa.s.
