Wynalazek dotyczy optycznie czystego (+)-trans-4-metylo-5-(3,3-dimetylobutylo)- tetrahydrofuran-2-onu o wzorze 2 i sposobu jego wytwarzania w wyniku mikrobiologicznej redukcji kwasu 3,7,7-dimetylo-4-oksooktanowego, o wzorze 1, a następnie samorzutnej laktonizacji powstałego hydroksykwasu do nasyconego optycznie czystego laktonu z zastosowaniem systemu enzymatycznego drożdży z gatunku Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Związek ten posiada trwały zapach kwiatowy z nutą akacjową dzięki czemu może mieć zastosowanie w przemyśle kosmetycznym do tworzenia kompozycji zapachowych.
