PL PLPublished on March 16, 1$fi0.& * %^; "Office of the Polish People's Republic PATENT DESCRIPTION No. 42861 KI. 21 d2, 47/02 Institute of Telecommunications *) Warsaw, Poland Direct current power plant operating in the differential voltage system, proprietary telecommunications power plant Additional patent to patent no. 41141 The patent is valid from March 13, 1959. A power plant for supplying telecommunications equipment with direct current obtained by converting alternating current from the power grid usually contains a rectifier or rectifiers constructed and operated in such a way that, despite fluctuations in the mains voltage, and sometimes also fluctuations in the load, deviations of the direct current at the outlet in relation to its rated value do not exceeded certain limits. In the event of a power grid failure, a backup battery can act as a backup source of direct current. To provide immediate current in the event of a failure, this battery must be permanently connected to the outlet. Such a backup battery is also called a "buffer battery." But to get to the heart of the matter, a backup battery should be distinguished from an actual buffer battery, used in devices with highly variable loads, for example in tram networks, so that the generator powering them nevertheless has a constant load. The buffer battery is connected and connected so that it absorbs load fluctuations, and the generator is protected from these fluctuations. In complete contrast, the backup battery of a telecommunications power plant is connected and connected so that the load, along with all its fluctuations, is covered by the rectifier, while the battery is protected from them and, unless a failure occurs, never supplies current. There is a certain external similarity in the connections between the buffer battery and the backup battery, but the operational purpose of one is opposite to the purpose of the other, so the technical solution to the task is fundamentally different in each case. The number of cells in the backup battery must be sufficient so that when current is drawn from it, it produces the voltage required at the output. On the other hand, in order to have the full charge available in the battery at the moment of failure, it must be charged after discharge, which requires an increased voltage at its terminals and then maintained in a fully charged state, in which this voltage is also increased. This gives rise to the problem of always having the same voltage at the output of the power plant, despite the voltage of the backup battery during charging and in the charged state being higher than its operating voltage. To compensate for the voltage difference discussed, it is known to use additional cells that can be switched on and off accordingly, or counter-cells that can be switched on and off similarly. The power plant according to the main patent no. 41141 does not contain additional cells and counter-cells. Instead, it has a resistor or rectifier element in series with the battery, which—when the mains voltage is present and the battery and load voltages are constant—creates a corresponding voltage drop, opposite the battery voltage. A booster rectifier is used to create this voltage drop. This method of operating the power plant under these operating conditions is called buffer-differential operation in patent no. 41141. However, patent no. 41141 does not address the issue of charging the backup battery, during which its voltage is not constant but gradually increases and reaches a significantly higher value compared to its voltage during operation in the buffer-differential system. Therefore, the battery would have to be disconnected from the outlet while charging the backup battery. The invention aims to allow the backup battery to be charged without disconnecting it from the outlet. Because the battery voltage increases during charging, the difference between the battery voltage and the constant voltage at the outlet also increases. The booster rectifier must therefore produce a correspondingly increasing voltage drop across the series resistor or rectifier element. For this purpose, this rectifier is equipped with a transducer voltage regulator. The drawing shows a circuit diagram of an example power plant according to the invention. During normal power supply from the power grid, the load is powered by a stabilized main rectifier Pg. In parallel with this rectifier, a backup battery B„ is connected to the output and is maintained in a fully charged state at a higher voltage, obtained as the sum of the voltage at the output and the voltage drop v across the resistor R connected in series with the battery. This voltage drop is generated on this resistor by the booster rectifier Pd, regulated by the transducer regulator Rt, which for this purpose at all times applies to the booster rectifier Pd a voltage equal to the difference between the voltage of battery B and the voltage to be maintained at the output. Under these conditions, the battery does not supply current. In the event of a mains voltage failure, the path not shown in the figure, contactor Sd is activated, which disconnects the booster rectifier Pd and shorts the series resistor. R; The load draws its current directly from the backup battery B. When the mains voltage is restored, the load is also supplied with power from the main rectifier Pg. At the same time, by means of contactor St, it automatically switches on the charging rectifier Plf, which begins to charge the backup battery B. As the voltage increases, its voltage increases. As this voltage increases, the transducer regulator Rt, which depends on it, increases the voltage of the booster rectifier Pd to (What value so that the difference between the voltage of battery B and the voltage drop generated by this rectifier across resistor R is at all times equal to the appropriate voltage at the output. After the backup battery B has reached a specific voltage corresponding to its full charge, the charging rectifier PI is automatically disconnected by contactor S1. The drawing omitted the set of relays that make the power plant work automatically. Instead of the series resistor R, a series rectifier element can be used. Instead of rectifiers, including the booster rectifier, the current sources can be converters, diesel-electric units or other DC power sources. Instead of a transducer regulator, the regulator of the booster rectifier or other booster power source can be an electromechanical regulator or any other automatic voltage regulator. The invention applies not only to telecommunications power plants, but also to electric power plants for other purposes.
