PLPriority: 27 May 1966 for claims 1 and 5 02. II. 1966 for claims 2, 3, 4, 6 Switzerland Published: 25. VI. 1969 57522 0 ^ / 22 MKP C 09 b 4 / M UKD Patent owner: CIBA Societe Anonyme, Basel (Switzerland) Method for the production of water-insoluble anthraquinone dyes. The subject of the invention is a method for the production of water-insoluble anthraquinone dyes. new valuable water-insoluble anthraquinone dyes of formula I are obtained, in which one of X represents an amino group and the other a hydroxyl group, A alkylene group, R alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or phenyl group, or preferably a hydrogen atom , Y is oxygen or sulfur, Z is hydrogen, halogen or a group of formula Y — A — OR if reacted with a dihydroxy diaminoanthraquinone of Formula 2, wherein X is as defined above, Hal is halogen and Zi is hydrogen or halogen, with an alcohol or a thioalcohol of the formula HY — A — OR, in which A, R and Y are as defined above. Halogenated dihydroxy diamino anthraquinones used as starting materials is preferably obtained by bromination, in particular chlorination of 1,8-dihydroxy-4,5-diamino anthraquinone. The halogenation can be carried out, for example, by treatment with chlorine, bromine, sulfuryl chloride in sulfuric acid or in an organic solvent such as chlorobenzene, nitrobenzene, acetic acid, glacial or dimethylformamide. The raw materials thus obtained contain 1 to 2 halogen atoms. The alcohols or thiols used in the process according to the invention preferably correspond to the formula HY [(cH2) mO] nH, in which Y is the oxide atom. or sulfur, m number 2-6, n number 1-3. For example, ethylene glycol can be used due to its availability, as well as the following compounds: 1,3-propylene glycol, 1,4-butylene glycol, glycol 1, 5-pentylene, 1,6-hexylene glycol, ethylene glycol monomethyl ether, ethylene glycol monoethyl ether, diethylene glycol, thiodiglycol, triethylene glycol, diethyl glycol monoethyl ether, diethylene glycol monobutyl ether, diethylene glycol monobutyl ether , triethylene glycol monomethyl ether, 2-mercaptoethanol, 1-mercaptopropane-2,3-diol, 2-hydroxy-2'-mercaptodiethylester. It is preferred to use ethylene glycol as the alcohol and 2-mercaptoethanol as the thio alcohol. The reactions are carried out with a large excess of alcohol, which in this case is both the reactant and the solvent. Thus, preferably at least 10 parts of alcohol are used for 1 part of the diamino dihydroxyhalogeno anthraquinone. When using thiol alcohol, polyol, in particular ethylene glycol, is used as a solvent. The reactions are carried out in the presence of alkaline agents, for example alkali metal carbonates or preferably hydroxides. alkali metals. The hydroxides used are sodium or potassium hydroxide, preferably in an amount of at least 2 moles per mole of the diamine halide dihydroxy anthraquinone. The process is preferably carried out without water at a temperature of 100 ° -130 ° C. The reaction product can be separated by filtration. In order to remove alkali hydroxides and alkali chlorides, it is recommended to rinse the product with water until a neutral reaction. Increasing the yield as well as reducing the dripping time can in some cases be achieved by neutralizing the reaction mixture before sipping, e.g. by adding acid. of acetic acid or by introducing gaseous carbon dioxide. The new dyes obtained according to the invention perfectly stretch onto hydrophobic fibers such as cellulose acetate, cellulose triacetate, polyamides, and in particular polyethylene terephthalate, and dyes them a pure blue color. good imaging of light and sublimaoje. The new dyes 20 have, moreover, a very good equalizing ability and reserve to wool and are well printable. In the dyeing process, the new dyes are used in finely divided form with the addition of 25 dispersing agents, such as soaps, sulfite or synthetic liquors. Detergents, or a set of various wetting and dispersing agents. As a rule, it is expedient to convert the dyes before dyeing into a dye formulation which contains a fine-grained dye and a dispersion agent in a form which forms an excellent dispersion when diluted with water. Such dyeing preparations can be obtained in a known manner, for example by separating the dye from sulfuric acid and grinding the obtained precipitate with sulfite liquor, or by grinding the dye in a dry or wet form in highly efficient grinding machines with or without the addition of dispersants during grinding. In order to obtain stronger dyes on polyethylene terephthalate fibers, it is advantageous to add a leavening agent to the dye bath or, in particular, to carry out the process under pressure at a temperature of more than 100 ° C, for example 120 ° C. Suitable raising agents are aromatic carboxylic acids, for example benzoic or salicylic acid, phenols, for example o- or p-oxydiphenyl, aromatic halogen compounds such as chloroibenzene, o-dichlorobenzene or trichlorobenzene, phenyl-methylcarbenzene. or diphenyl. In the case of dyeing under pressure, it is advantageous to slightly acidify the bath, for example by the addition of a weak acid such as acetic acid. The dyeing obtained is expediently subjected to further treatment, for example by heating with an aqueous solution of a non-ionic detergent. Instead of impregnating the dyes, it is also possible to apply by printing. For this purpose, for example, dyes are used, which in addition to the auxiliaries commonly used in printing, such as wetting agents and thickeners, contain finely divided dye, possibly in the presence of urea and or an acid binding agent. In the following examples, parts are parts by weight, unless otherwise stated, percentages are percentages by weight, temperatures are in degrees Celsius, and the ratio between parts by weight and volume is between In a mixing flask with a thermometer and a reflux condenser, 220 parts of ethylene glycol and 15.2 parts of chlorinated 1,5-dihydroxy -4.8- are mixed at a temperature of 120-125 °. diaminoanthraquinone (chlorine content 17.8Vo Cl). It is introduced in hourly steps in six portions of 1.45 parts, a total of 8.7 parts of 91% potassium hydroxide, and maintains the indicated temperature for a further 6 hours. Cools, drains the dye lost and washed first with 30 parts of ethylene glycol and then water for an indifferent pass. A reaction product of 13 parts yield is obtained. The dye is drawn from the aqueous dispersions into acetate, triacetate, nylon, polyester fibers and dyed in strong pure blue with a red tint, with good uniformity. A reserve against the wool of good. The dye shows good fastness to light and sublimation. Chlorinated 1,5-dihydroxy-4,8-diaminoanthraquinone is obtained by chlorination of 1,5-dihydroxy-4,8-diaminoanthraquinone in dimethylform amide. One part of the dye obtained in accordance with Example 1 was wet ground with 2 parts of a 50% aqueous solution of sodium di-naphthylene methyldisulfonic acid and dried. The resulting dye preparation was mixed with 40 parts of a 10% aqueous solution of N-benzyl-M-heptacylbenzimidazole-disulfonic acid sodium salt and 4 parts of a 40% acetic acid solution were added. After dilution with water, 400 parts of dyeing bath were prepared. 100 parts of purified polyester fiber were introduced into this bath at 50 ° C, the temperature was raised for half an hour to 120 ° -130 ° and dyed at this temperature in a closed vessel for an hour, then thoroughly rinsed. Pure blue dyeing with good fastness to light and sublimation was obtained. Example II. A mixture of 330 parts of ethylene glycol, 12 parts of 2-mercaptoethanol, 30.4 parts of chlorinated 4,8-diaminoanthraruphine (chlorine content 14.4%) was heated in a mixing flask over an hour to 110-115 ° C. and 14 parts of potassium. The above temperature was held for 4 hours, then was lowered to room temperature and the dye was drained off. The cake was washed on a nib with 20 parts of ethylene glycol, then with water until neutral, and dried. A dye of formula 3 was obtained, yielding 27.8 parts. Thin Layer Chromatography showed no starting material. The dye pulls from the aqueous dispersions onto acetate, triacetate, nylon, polyester fibers and dyes all to strong pure blue colors. The perfectly uniform dye obtained is characterized by good lightfastness and resistance to sublimation. Chlorinated 4,8-diaminoanthrarufine is preferably obtained by chlorination of 1,5-dioxy -4,8-diaminoanthraquinone in dimethyl framamide. Instead of 2-mercapto-ethanol of equimolar amounts of 1-mercapto-propane-2,3-diol a dye is obtained which dyes nylon and polyester fibers in similar colors. Example III. In a mixing flask with a thermometer and a reflux condenser, 125 parts of ethylene glycol and 10.5 parts of brominated 1,5-dihydroxy-4,8-diaminoanthraquinone (bromine content 22.5%) were mixed at a temperature of 120-125 °. Thereafter, it was introduced at hourly intervals in six portions of 0.9 parts, a total of 5.4 parts of 91% potassium hydroxide, and the temperature was maintained for 6 hours. It is then cooled, the precipitated dye is filtered off, washed with the reaction product and first with 20 parts of ethylene glycol and then with water for the neutral reaction. The resulting reaction product was 5.5 parts. The dyeing properties are similar to the dyeing properties of the dye obtained according to Example I. Bromination 1,5-two-hydroxy-4,8-diaminoanthraquinone was prepared according to the method described in Belgian Patent Specification No. 646,113 by bromination of 1,5-dihydroxy-4 , 8-diamino-anthraquinone in nitrobenzene at 160 ° -165 °.
