Abstract
Process comprises making amt. of O2 available at least equal to the stoichiometric amt. necessary to oxidise the nitric oxide into nitrogen dioxide NO2, and treating the gas with an alkali metal cpd. comprising an alkali pyrosulphite in an amt. sufficient to convert the NO in the gas into the nitrite and nitrate of the alkali metal.
