Abstract

La invención proporciona un proceso para refinar etilenglicol no derivado del petróleo, en el que se separan las impurezas que tienen un punto de ebullición cercano al etilenglicol. En el proceso, los compuestos de alcohol oleofílico C5-C20, los alcanos C5-C20 y/o los compuestos de cetona oleofílica C4-C20 se someten a azeotropismo como agente azeotrópico junto con el etilenglicol no derivado del petróleo para obtener un azeótropo que contiene etilenglicol. Luego, el agente azeotrópico en el azeótropo se separa y se elimina para obtener un producto crudo de etilenglicol que se purifica adicionalmente para obtener etilenglicol.
