Abstract

Metal surfaces are phosphated by means of an acid alkali metal phosphate and/or ammonium phosphate solution which contains fumaric acid. A pulverulent phosphating agent which, in addition to phosphates, contains 0.05 to 80% by weight of fumaric acid is used for preparing this solution. The pulverulent phosphating agent can additionally contain an accelerator and/or a wetting agent.
