Abstract

This invention provides a liquid crystal orientation agent which enables the formed liquid crystal orientation film having excellent vertical orientation, voltage maintaining and adhesion of sealing agent. The vertical-orientation liquid crystal orientation agent comprises polyamic acid or imide polymer, a product of dehydrogenation reaction. The said polyamic acid is a product from the reaction of an aliphatic tetracarbonate dianhydride with a combination of 1,3-diaminobenzene (that the 4-position oxygen atom is bound to specific steroid skeleton) and other diamine.
