Description
L. G. QUINBY. Metallic Harness-Loop.
No. 208,635. Patented Oct. 1,1878.
.mllllllllm UNITED STATES PATENT QFFICE.
LFVI C. QUINBY, OF MONTICELLO, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT lN METALLIC HARNESS-LOOPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 208,635, dated October 1, 1878; application filed May 23, 1878.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, LEVI O. QUINBY, of Monticello, in the county of Jones and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Metal Loops for Harness, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to an improvement in the construction of metallic trace and strap loops for harness, and will first be described in connection with the drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a perspective view of the loop. Fig. 2 is an end view of same. Fig. 3 is a view of the loop affixed to strap. Fig. 4 is a view of the loop secured to a hame-tug, with end of trace broken 0E. Fig. 5 is a cross-section view of hanie-tug through y 2, showing loop secured.
The letter A represents the face of the loop proper; b, the ends, the upper part of which, connecting with the face, is broad, and the lower part is tapered narrow and attached to the side bars, 0, which latter are connected by the transverse bars at, the upper and lower sides of which are slightly rounded, giving the bars in cross-section an oval shape. The width of these transverse bars in the small loops will not require a lengthening of the stitch when sewing the straps together between which the bars are placed, as hereinafter described.
When used as a stationary loop the crossbars 01 are placed between the two parts of the strap 6 f, as represented in Fig. 3, and it will be seen these bars are wide enough apart to admit of the two layers of leather coming together between them at m, where they are well stitched through, either along the edges of the strap or transversely along each side of the bars (I, thus holding the loop firmly. The bars constituting the base of the loop prevent the part A from tipping forward or backward.
In Fig. 4 two loops are represented as secured to the hame-tug part H, while the end of the trace I, after passing the buckle, passes through the open loops. This loop may also be used as a sliding loop, as seen in Fig. 3.
Having described my invention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The improved metal loop for harness, consisting of face part A, having the end pieces, 1), connecting with the side bars, 0, and the two transverse bars 61, which are wide enough apart to admit of the upper and lower layers of leather to come together between, as set forth.
LEVI O. QUINBY.
