Description
(ModeL) J. S. MAD'DOX.
Harness Fastening.
No. 237,565. Patented Feb. s 1 8.1,
By Attorney N.FETERS, PM HoRAPuER. WASHINGTON n c UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN S. MADDQX, OF MILTON, KENTUCKY, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JAMES STBOTHER, OF SAME PLACE.
HARNESS-FASTENING.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 237,565, dated February 8, 1881. Application filed October 2, 1880. (ModeL) To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN S. MADDOX, of Milton, in the county of Trimble and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Harness-Fastenings; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a front view of the device. Fig.2 is aview of one end. Fig. 3 is a view of the other end.
This invention relates to devices for fastening together the corresponding ends of harness-such as collar, belly-band, 850.
The invention consists in a fastening of a peculiar construction, all as hereinafter described and claimed.
In the annexed drawings, A is the end of one strap, B the end of another. To the end A is attached the series of loops 0. These are made by bending a Wire, as at c, and forming eyes in it at c 0, through which eyes pass, and in which are fastened bars 01 d. The ends of Wire are passed through the end A and fastened there. This fastening is made by looping one end of the wire and passing the other end through said loop and making it fast. Then end A is passed around these looped ends and made fast by wire a.
By this construction the loops 0 are free to be moved. To the end B is attached a hook, E, in a manner similar to that in which loops 0 are attached to end A. This hook E is formed by bending a wire, as
at c, then turning the side pieces 6 6 back upon themselves, making the curves 6 c.
F represents a leather plate made fast to end A, and coming between the buckle and the body of the animal.
By the above construction a device is formed capable of adjustment for different lengths Without the disadvantages which are found in a leather strapthe leather cracking, the holes running together, and liable to snap.
What I claim is A harness-fastening made of wire, consisting of a hook and loop frame, the frame provided upon each side with eyes 0', formed by bending the wire, as described, and cross-bars secured in said eyes, whereby a series of loops, 0, are provided, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
JOHN s. MADDOX.
