Description

(No Model.)
I. BLUMENTHALL -PITGHER COVER.
. Patented Apr. 1, 1884.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ISAAC .BLUMENTHAL, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
PlTCHER-COVER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 295,902, dated April 1, 1884.
Application filed September 25, 1883. (N model.)
of which the following is a specification, ref erence being had therein to the accompanying drawings. 7 My invention relates to improvements in covers for pitchers and like articles.
The object of the invention is to provide a top or cover which will fit snugly over the I mouth of the pitcher to exclude all dust, in-
sects, &c., and which at the same time may be removed therefrom when it is desired to empty the contents from such pitcher.
To the accomplishment of the above the invention consists of certain novel devices, as will be described and claimed.
Reference will be made to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a sectional view of the neck of a pitcher with my improved cover applied, and Figs. 2 and 3 views in perspective of different forms of the cover.
Like letters refer to like parts in each view.
It will be understood that these covers may be composed of any suitable material, may be ornamented in any desired style, and may be of any form to fit the pitcher upon which they are used.
In the drawings, A represents the neck of a pitcher of ordinary construction; B, the han die of the same, and 0 one of my improved covers, adapted to fit snugly over the mouth of such pitcher. The cover 0 is made to conform to the shape of the pitcher-mouth, and is preferably provided with a handle, D, as
shown. A downwardly-projecting flange, E,
is formed on the edge of the cap, there being a notch, F, formed in said flange at the rear of the cover to allow of said cover fitting over the handle B.
It will be seen that a cover constructed as is minecan be readily placed upon and removed from a pitcher, is-not liable to displacement, and while in position effectually excludes all dust, insects, &c.
In Fig. 3 I have shown a cover constructed in all respects like the one hereinbefore described, but intended for use on pitchers of different form.
What I claim is- As a new article of manufacture, a removable pitcher cover provided with a downwardly-projecting flange extending to either side of the handle, whereby an opening is provided for the reception of the same, as described and shown.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ISAAC BLUMENTHAL.
