- This invention relates to electric circuit breakers and aims at providing an improved construction which affords adequate contact pressure and rapid contact breaking while the mechanism which controls the movable contact of the breaker and includes a biasing spring can be arranged sufficiently remote from the contact gap so that the serviceable life of the breaker is not afiected by excessive heat when an arc is formed at the contact openmg.

- F or retaining the latch closed an opposing torque must be exerted through shaft 22 or members corresponding to the parts 19 and 21 of FIG. 3. If this opposing torque is removed, for instance by de-energising a tripping coil, the latch opens automatically under the biasing force.
