The object of this invention is to facilitate the operation of applying the button to the end and to save accidental separation, and thus obtain greater security for the cuff.

The invention consists in the improved cuff-button and in the arrangements and combinations of parts, substantially as will be hereinafter set forth, and finally embodied in the clauses of the claim.

Said link is permanently secured to one of said heads and removable or' separable from the other. The link is of peculiar construction and consists of a wire bent at its opposite ends to form a link with an open side. Said pin or tongue is arranged in the fixed tubular part d and is adapted to close the opening remaining between said part and the part c, the said pin or tongue being adapted to slide longitudinally in said tubular wire 61 to open or close the opening. It is held normally closed by a spring h, arranged within the tube d,which spring bears against the end of the pin and forces the same outward, so that it lies at its opposite end within the tube 6. The pin f is provided with a nail-piece g, which slides in a slot in the tube, as will be understood upon reference to Figs. 3 and 4. By simply pressing the nail-piece backward against the spring the link is opened to admit the insertion or removal of the separable head. By means of the spring-controlled sliding tongue the link cannot be accidentally opened and the separable head removed therefrom as readily as heretofore; but, on the otherhand, the said separable head is held with greater certainty and security, and when a separation is desired the same can be effected with increased convenience.

I am aware that heretofore in cuff-buttons an open buttonshank has been employed in connection with a solid link, or one having no opening, such asI have shown herein. In my device I avoid the objections to such construction and employ a solid shank, such as will pass through the buttonhole without catching and will be capable of withstanding the pressure used in such operation without being bent out of operative condition, as will be understood.

Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new is 1. The combination of heads a a, a link permanently secured to one of said heads and separable from the other, the said link having an opening and being provided with .a tube formed adjacent to said opening, and

a sliding tongue to open or close said opening, substantially as set forth.
