To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, TIMOTHY V. REGAN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at New Orleans, parish of Orleans, State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shirts, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to wearing apparel, and more particularly to dress shirts, and one of the objects thereof is to provide a shirt in a manner as hereinafter set forth with attached cuffs and means whereby the cuffs can be thrown back upon the arm when occasion so requires to prevent the soiling of the cuffs.

Vith the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the novel forni of garment hereinafter more specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications can be resorted to which come within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

In the accompanying drawings, wherein like characters denote corresponding parts throughout the several views-Figure 1 is a front elevation of a shirt in accordance with this invention; Fig. 2 is a view of a sleeve showing the sections of the cuffs separated.

Referring to the drawings in detail, 1 denotes the body portion of Aa shirt, 2 the bosom, 3 the shoulders, 4 the neck-band and 5 the sleeves.

rIhe lower end of each of the sleeves is split at each side forming the flaps 6, 7 and to the outer end of each of the said flaps is secured a cuff section 8. Each of the cuff sections 8 is provided with a button hole 9 in close proximity to each of its side edges. The cuff sections 8 are of the same size and the button holes of one section register with the button holes of the othersection when the cuff sections are brought together. Each pair of cuff sections 8 is connected together by a pair of cuff buttons 10, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.

The flap 6 is provided at a point removed from the cuff section which is attached thereto with a pair of button holes 11, which are positioned in proximity to the side edges 12 of said fiap 6. The flap 7 is formed with an inturned portion 13 secured at its top to the cuff section 8, as at 14 and at its bottom, as at 15 to the sleeve. The inner edge of the iii-'turned portion 13 is disconnected fromthe flap 7 and the said in-turned portion 13 carries a button 16 whereby the flaps can be secured together at one side through the medium of that button hole 11 which opposes the button 16. The rear face of the flap 6 at that side opposite the side provided with the in-turned portion has attached thereto a button 17 which, in connection with the other button hole 11 of the flap 6, is adapted to connect the other sides of the flaps together, the flap 6 extending around the flap 7 so that the button 17 can engage with the buttonhole at that side of the flap.

By providing the sleeves of the shirt with sectional cuffs provision is not only made whereby the sections of the cuffs can be separated and thrown back to prevent them from getting soiled, but the sectional cuffs overcome the necessity of bending the cuff as is customary with a single-piece cuff. In single-piece cuffs the life thereof is lessened owing to the fact that by bending them it causes the same to crack at the bend and when laundered the cuffs fray and under such circumstances are thrown aside. If the singie-piece cuff be attached to the shirt sleeve when damaged it would necessitate the cutting off of the cuff and replacing a new one, or in some instances the shirt is thrown away. It is obvious that the sectional cuffs not only increase the life of the cuff, but also the life of the shirt.

What I claim is- A shirt embodying a pair of sleeves each split at its free end to form a pair of fiaps, a cuff section secured to each of the flaps, said cuff sections of the same size and each provided With a pair of button holes, the button holes of each section arranged in close proximity to the side edges thereof, one of said flaps of each of'said sleeves having an inturned portion with the inner edge disconnected, said in-turned. portion arranged against the inner face of its fiap and carrying upon its outer face an attaching device, said flap provided With the in-turned portion furmy hand in presence of two subscribing Witther having an `attaching device upon its nesses.
