技 術 分 野
本発明は、 エンジンに所謂リーン燃焼及び所謂リ ツチ 燃焼の所要の一方を選択的に行わせて排気ガス特性及び 燃費を向上できると共にエンジン出力を必要に応じて増 大できる内燃エンジンの空燃比制御装置に関し、 特に、 リーン燃焼とリ ツチ燃焼間での切換えのために空燃比を 変化させたときに生じ易いエンジン出力の急変を防止で きる空燃比制御装置に関する。
背 景 技 術
自動車の排気ガス特性及び燃費の向上のために、 内燃 エンジンに供給される混合気の空燃比を理論空燃比に関 して燃料希薄側の値に制御して、 エンジンをリーン燃焼 状態で運転することが知られている。 その一方で、 ェン ジンを常時リーン燃焼運転すると、 エンジンの特定の運 転状態 (例えば、 急発進運転状態及び急加速運転状態) では、 エンジン出力が不足する。 そこで、 従来、 ェンジ ンの特定の運転状態では空燃比を理論空燃比又はその近 傍 (以下、 理論空燃比近傍という) に制御して、 リ ツチ 燃焼運転を行うようにしている。
しかしながら、 従来の空燃比制御によれば、 リ ッチ燃 焼とリーン燃焼間での切換えのために空燃比を理論空燃 比近傍とこれよりも燃料希薄側の空燃比との間で変化ざ せたとき、 ェンジンへの燃料供給量が急激に変化するこ とがある。 この場合、 燃料供給量, エンジン熱効率等に 応じて定まるエンジン出力が急変する。 例えば、 運転者 によるァクセルペダルの踏込操作が解除されて加速運転 状態 (特定の運転状態の一つ) が終了した場合、 従来の 空燃比制御装置は、 空燃比を燃料リーン側の値に戻すベ く燃料供給量を急減させるように作動し、 この結果、 ェ ンジン出力が急激に低下する。 エンジン出力がこの様に 急変すると、 エンジンにトルクショックが生じ、 ドライ バビリティを阻害することになる。
なお、 広義には上記従来装置に属しリーン運転状態へ の移行時に燃料供給量を減量させるようにした空燃比制 御装置が、 日本国特開平 2 — 2 6 7 3 4 0号に開示され ている。
発 明 の 開 示
本発明の目的は、 エンジンにリツチ燃焼及びリーン燃 焼の任意の一方を行わせるために理論空燃比近傍の値と これより燃料リーン側の値との間で空燃比を変化させた ときに生じ易い不快なトルクショックを防止できる内燃 エンジンの空燃比制御装置を提供することにある。
上記目的を達成するため、 本発明によれば、 エンジン に供給される混合気の空燃比を、 エンジンが特定の運転 状態にあるときに理論空嫘比近傍の第 1の空燃比に制御 し、 又、 エンジンが特定の運転状態以外の運転状態にあ るときには第 1の空燃比に関して燃料希薄側の第 2の空 撚比に制御する内燃エンジンの空撚比制御装置が提供さ れる。 この空燃比制御装置は、 エンジンの吸気通路の途 中に設けたスロッ トル弁をバイパスし両端が吸気通路に 連通する主バイパス通路と、 スロッ トル弁をバイパスし 両端が吸気通路に連通する副バイパス通路と、 主バイパ ス通路を介して吸入される空気の量を調節するための主 バルブ手段と、 副バイパス通路を介して吸入される空気 の量を調節するための副バルブ手段と、 ェンジンが特定 の運転状態にあるとき主バイパス通路を介する吸入空気 供給が阻止されるように主バルブ手段を駆動制御する一 方、 エンジンが特定の運転状態以外の運転状態にあると きは第 2の空燃比を達成可能とする吸入空気量が主バイ パス通路及び副バイパス通路を介して供給されるように 主バルブ手段及び副バルブ手段を駆動制御するための制 御手段とを備える。
好ましくは、 空燃比制御装置は、 エンジンへ供給され る燃料の量を調節するための燃料供給手段を備える。 制 御手段は、 エンジンが特定の運転状態にあるとき、 少な く とも主バイパス通路を含まない吸気通路を介して供給 される吸入空気の量と燃料供給手段から供給される燃料 の量とによって第 1の空燃比が達成されるように燃料供 給手段を駆動制御する。 又、 制御手段は、 エンジンが特 定の運転状態以外の運転状態にあるとき、 主及び副バイ パス通路を含む吸気通路を介する吸入空気供給量と燃料 供給手段からの燃料供給量とによって第 2の空燃比が達 成されるように燃料供給手段を駆動制御する。 更に、 制 御手段は、 第 1の空燃比での運転から第 2の空燃比での 運転への切換の前後においてエンジンから実質的に取り 出し可能な出力がほぼ変化しないような吸入空気量変化 が発生するように主及び副バルブ手段を駆動制御する。 好ましくは、 主バルブ手段は、 スロッ トル弁開度に応 じて変化する吸気通路内負圧に応動する負圧応動弁から なり、 制御手段は、 エンジンが特定の運転状態にあると き負圧応動弁への負圧供給を阻止する一方、 エンジンが 特定の運転状態以外の運転状態にあるとき負圧応動弁へ の負圧供給を許容する。
好ましくは、 空燃比制御装置は、 エンジンに加わる負 荷を表すパラメータの値を検出するための負荷パラメ一 タ検出手段を更に含み、 制御手段は、 エンジン負荷に応 じて副バルブ手段の弁開度をオープンループ制御する。 副バルブ手段は例えばステッピングモータを含みモータ 回転位置に応じた弁開度をとるモータ駆動式の弁からな り、 制御手段はステッピングモータの回転位置をオーブ ンループ制御する。
或は、 空燃比制御装置は、 エンジンに加わる負荷を表 すパラメータの値を検出するための負荷パラメータ検出 手段、 例えば、 スロッ トル開度を検出するためのスロッ トル開度検出手段と、 吸気通路を介して吸入される空気 の量を検出するための空気量検出手段とを更に含み、 制 御手段は、 エンジンが特定の運転状態以外の運転状態に あるとき、 第 2の空燃比を達成可能とする目標吸入空気 量を、 検出されたエンジン負荷パラメータ値、 例えば検 出されたスロッ トル弁開度に応じて演算し、 次いで、 検 出された実際吸入空気量と目標吸入空気量との偏差に応 じて副バルブ手段の弁開度を制御する。 副バルブ手段は 例えば電磁開閉弁からなり、 制御手段は電磁開閉弁のォ ンオフデューティ比すなわち時間軸上の平均弁開度を制 御する。
上述のように、 本発明によれば、 スロッ トル弁をバイ パスして吸気通路に設けた主及び副バイパス通路に両該 バイパス通路を介する吸入空気量を調節するための主及 び副バルブ手段が夫々設けられ、 エンジンが特定の運転 状態にあるとき主バイパス通路を介する吸入空気供給が 阻止される一方、 エンジンが特定の運転状態以外の運転 状態にあるときは第 2の空燃比を達成可能とする吸入空 気量が主及び副バィパス通路を介して供給される。 従つ て、 特定の運転状態からそれ以外の運転状態への移行時、 第 2の空燃比が達成されるように吸入空気量が増量され る。 このため、 上記移行時における燃料供給量の急減を 防止でき、 従って、 エンジン出力トルクの急変による ト ルクショックを防止できる。 しかも、 吸入空気増量のた めに 2つのバイパス通路を用いるので、 各バイパス通路 に設けるバルブ手段は小容量のもので良く、 コストを低 減できる。 又、 バルブ手段を電磁弁で構成した場合、 電 磁弁駆動用バッテリを小型化できる。
好ましくは、 エンジンが特定の運転状態にあるとき、 吸気通路を介する吸入空気量と燃料供給手段からの燃料 供給量とによって第 1の空燃比が達成されるように燃料 供給手段が駆動制御され、 又、 エンジンが特定の運転状 態以外の運転状態にあるとき、 吸入空気量と燃料供給量 とによって第 2の空燃比が達成されるように燃料供給制 御が行われる。 従って、 各種エンジン運転領域において 第 1の空燃比及び第 2の空撚比の所要の一方が達成され る。 又、 リッチ燃焼運転とリーン燃焼運転間での移行時 におけるエンジン出力がほぼ変化しないように吸入空気 量変化が制御され、 これにより、 上記移行のために空燃 比を変化させたとき、 エンジン出力トルクの連続性が維 持されてエンジンにおける トルクショックを防止できる。 又、 リッチ燃焼運転とリーン燃焼運転との間での移行に 際して、 トルクショック防止のために空燃比を第 1の空 燃比と第 2の空燃比との間で徐々に変化させることは必 ずしも必要ではなく、 従って、 空燃比を徐々に変化させ る場合とは異なり、 排ガス浄化率が悪化するような運転 領域でエンジン運転を行う必要がなくなり、 排ガス特性 が向上する。
好ましくは、 主バルブ手段は、 スロッ トル弁開度に応 じて変化する吸気通路内負圧に応動する負圧応動弁で構 成される。 この場合、 負圧応動弁からなる主バルブ手段 によつて吸入空気量を大まかに制御できると共に副バル ブ手段によって吸入空気量制御を精密に行える。 このた め、 小容量のタィプの副バルブ手段が使用可能となる。 好ましくは、 エンジン負荷に応じて副バルブ手段の弁 開度をオープンループ制御するようにしたので、 吸入空 気量をフィ一ドバック制御する場合に必須の吸入空気量 検出用センサが不要であり、 又、 吸入空気量制御を簡易 に行える。 一方、 吸入空気量をフィードバック制御する 場合は、 吸入空気量制御を精密に行える。

吸気通路 2には、 上流側から順にエアクリーナ 6, ス ロッ トル弁 7及び燃料噴射弁 8が設けられ、 熾料噴射弁 8は、 吸気マニホルド部分に気筒数だけ設けられている。 参照符号 2 aは、 吸気通路 2のスロッ トル弁下流側に設 けたサージタンクを示す。 又、 排気通路 3には、 その上 流側から順に排ガス浄化用触媒コンバータ (三元触媒) 9および図示しない消音器が設けられている。
更に、 吸気通路 2には、 空燃比制御装置の構成要素と しての 2つのバイパス通路 3 1, 4 3力《、 スロッ トル弁 7をバイパスして設けられ、 各バイパス通路の両端は吸 気通路 2に連通している。
副バイパス通路としての第 1バイパス通路 3 1には、 バイパス通路 3 1を介する吸入空気量を調節するための I S Cバルブ (副バルブ手段) 3 0が配設されている。 本実施例の I S Cバルブ 3 0は、 弁体 3 0 a、 この弁体 3 0 aを開閉駆動するためのソレノィ ド 3 0 b等から構 成される電磁ソレノィ ド弁からなる。 I S Cバルブ 3 0 のソレノイ ド 3 0 bは、 第 2図に参照符号 2 3で示しか つ後で詳述する電子制御装置 (E C U ) に接続されてお り、 I S Cバルブ 3 0は、 該バルブの時間軸上での平均 弁開度が可変制御されるように、 E C U 2 3からの駆動 信号によりオンオフデューティ制御され、 所要量のバイ パス空気が第 1バイパス通路 3 1を介してエンジン Eに 供給されるようになっている。 なお、 I S Cバルブ 3 0 は、 空燃比制御に用いられると共に、 アイ ドル時のェン ジン回転数制御等にも用いられる。
一方、 主バイパス通路としての第 2バイパス通路 4 3 には、 負圧応動弁 (A C Vバルブ) 4 1が配設され、 こ の負圧応動弁 4 1は、 スロッ トル弁開度に応じて変化す る吸気通路 2内の負圧に応じてそのリフ ト量が変化する ようになつている。 より詳しくは、 負圧応動弁 4 1は、 ダイアフラム 4 1 bに取り付けられバイパス通路 4 3を 開閉するための弁体 4 1 aと、 弁 4 1の外壁とダイァフ ラム 4 1 bとにより画成される圧力室 4 1 cと、 圧力室 4 1 c内に配されダイアフラム 4 1 bを介して弁体 4 1 aを常時閉弁方向に付勢するばね 4 1 bとを含んでいる。 負圧応動弁 4 1の圧力室 4 1 じほ、 管路 4 4を介して、 スロッ トル弁開度に応じた負圧が発生するスロッ トル弁 7の直ぐ上流位置において吸気通路 2に連通している。 管路 4 4の途中には、 負圧の制御弁として機能するバ ィパスバルブ 4 2が配設されている。 このバイパスバル ブ 4 2は、 負圧応動弁 4 1及び管路 4 4と協働して、 第 2バイパス通路 4 3を介する吸入空気量を調節するため の主バルブ手段をなす。 詳しくは、 バイパスバルブ 4 2 は、 管路 4 を開閉するための弁体 4 2 aと、 これと一 体に動作し大気開口を開閉するための弁体 4 2 bと、 弁 体 4 2 bを常時閉じ側に付勢するばね 4 2 dと、 これら の弁体 4 2 a, 4 2 bを開閉駆動するためのソレノイ ド 4 2 cとを含み、 ソレノィ ド 4 2 cは E C U 2 3の出力 側に接続されている。
好ましくは、 吸気通路 2に対する管路 4 4の開口端の 形成位置として、 管路 4 4を介して吸気通路 2から負圧 応動弁 4 1の圧力室 4 1 cに供給される負圧 (A C V負 圧) がスロッ トル弁開度におおよそ比例して変化するよ うにするに足る位置が選択される。 A CV負圧がスロッ トル弁開度に正確に比例して変化する場合、 負圧応動弁 4 1の弁開度 (A CV開度) は、 第 6図に破線で示すよ うに、 スロッ トル弁開度に比例して変化することになる。 そして、 スロッ トル弁開度と、 A C V開度とスロッ トル 弁開度との和との比が、 理論空燃比 (第 1の空燃比) と、 これよりも燃料リーン側の目標空燃比 (第 2の空燃比) との比に等しければ、 主バイパス通路 4 3を介する吸入 空気供給を選択的に阻止又は許容することによって、 第
1の空燧比又は第 2の空燃比の所要の一方を達成可能に なる。
しかしながら、 実際には、 A C V負圧 (A CV開度) とスロッ トル弁開度とが比例すると云う要件を満たすよ うな管路開口端位置を選択することは困難である。 典型 的には、 スロッ トル弁開度の変化につれて A C V負圧は 第 5図に例示するように変化し、 このため、 スロッ トル 弁開度の変化に伴って A C V開度は第 6図に実線で例示 するように変化する。 即ち、 スロッ トル弁開度が大きい 領域では、 A C V開度は、 第 6図に破線で示す最適 A C V開度よりも小さくなる。 従って、 第 2バイパス通路 (主バイパス通路) 4 3を介する吸入空気量は、 ェンジ ン運転状態の変化におおよそ追従して変化し、 しかし、 スロッ トル弁開度が大きい領域では吸入空気量に不足を 来すことになる。
上記構成の主バルブ手段において、 E C U 2 3からの 駆動信号がバイパスバルブ 4 2のソレノィ ド 4 2 cに供 給されずにソレノイ ド 4 2 cが消勢されている場合には、 弁体 4 2 aが負圧発生側の管路 4 4を閉塞する一方、 弁 体 4 2 bが大気開口を開成して大気圧が負圧応動弁 4 1 の圧力室 4 1 cに導かれる。 このとき、 ばね 4 1 dがダ ィァフラム 4 1 bを介して弁体 4 1 aをバイパス通路 4 3を閉塞する方向に押圧し、 バイパス通路 4 3を閉成す る。 これにより、 バイパス通路 4 3を介するバイバス空 気のエンジン Eへの供給が阻止される。 一方、 E C U 2 3からの駆動信号によりソレノイ ド 4 2 cが付勢される と、 弁体 4 2 bが大気開口を閉塞すると共に、 管路 4 4 が開成して吸気通路 2内の負圧が圧力室 4 1 cに導かれ る。 この結果、 弁体 4 1 aがばね 4 1 dのばね力に抗し て開弁方向にリフ トし、 バイパス通路 4 3が開成する。 こ れにより、 エンジン運転状態に応じて変化する負圧が圧 力室 4 1 cに導かれ、 負圧の大きさに応じて弁体 4 I a のリフ ト量が決定され、 必要な空気量がバイパス通路 4 3を介してエンジン Eに供給されることになる。
リーン嫘焼を行う場合には、 バイパスバルブ 4 2を開 成し、 バイパス通路 4 3を介してバイパス空気をェンジ ン Eに供給すると共に、 I S Cバルブ 3 0をデューティ 制御してバイパス通路 3 1からもバイパス空気をェンジ ン Eに供耠する。 バイパス通路 4 3を介するバイパス空 気の供給量は、 吸気通路 2内の負圧に応じて決定され、 これにより、 エンジン Eの運転状態に大略対応する吸入 空気供給が可能になる。 しかしながら、 第 5図及び第 6 図を参照して既に説明したように、 バイパス通路 4 3の みを介して目標吸入空気量を正確に供給することは困難 である。 一方、 I S Cバルブ 3 0は電磁弁であるから、 コス卜の問題ゃバッテリ容量の問題で大容量のものを採 用することは実用的ではなく、 バイパス通路 3 1のみを 介して目標吸入空気量を供給する装置構成は実際的でな い。 そこで、 本実施例では、 I S Cバルブ 3 0をデュー ティ制御することにより、 バイパス通路 4 3を介するバ ィパス空気量を捕正する空気量をェンジン Eに供給し、 結果として吸入空気量を正確に目標量に制御するように している。
一方、 リツチ燃焼運転を行う場合にはバイパスバルブ 4 2を閉成してバイパス通路 4 3を遮断する。 このため、 エンジン Eに供給される吸入空気量は、 吸気通路 2内に 配されたスロ ッ トル弁 7の開度に応じて変化する。 好ま しく は、 I S Cバルブ 3 0の弁開度は、 エンジン Eの運 転状態に応じた基本補助空気がェンジン Eに供給される ように調節される。 この基本捕助空気は、 いわゆる 「ダ ッシュポッ ト制御」 のための捕助空気であって、 スロッ トル弁 7が急に閉弁された場合にでも、 エンジン回転数 が急減してエンジンストップを防止するためのものであ る o
以上のように、 同じ燃料量がエンジン Eに供給されて いるとしたとき、 バイパス通路 4 3を開成することによ りリーン燃焼運転が、 バイパス通路 4 3を閉成すること により リッチ燃焼運転が行われることになる。
このような構成により、 スロッ トル弁 7 (吸気通路 2 ) 単独あるいはスロッ トル弁 7及び第 1, 第 2バイパス通 路 3 1, 4 3を介して供給される吸入空気が、 吸気マ二 ホルド部分で燃料噴射弁 8からの燃料と所定の空燃比と なるように混合され、 燃焼室内で燃焼せしめられて、 ェ ンジントルクを発生させる。 なお、 燃料ポンプから各燃 料噴射弁 8へ供給される燃料は図示しない燃圧レギユレ 一夕によって一定圧に調整されるようになつている。
更に、 .上述の空燃比制御、 燃料供給制御を含む種々の エンジン制御を電子制御ユニッ ト (E C U ) 2 3により 実行すべく、 以下に説明するような種々のセンサ (第 1 図及び第 2図) が設けられている。 先ず、 吸気通路 2側には、 吸入空気量をカルマン渦情 報から検出するためのエアフローセンサ 1 1, 大気圧を 検出するための大気圧センサ 2 6, 吸入空気温度を検出 するための吸気温センサ 1 2が設けられている。 又、 吸 気通路 2におけるスロッ トル弁 7には、 弁軸などからス ロッ トル弁開度を検出するためのポテンショメータ式の スロッ トルセンサ 1 4、 アイ ドリ ング状態を検出するた めのアイ ドルスィツチ 1 5等が設けられている。 更に、 排気通路 3側における触媒コンバータ 9の上流側部分に は、 排ガス中の酸素濃度を検出するための 02 センサ 1 7が設けられている。 そして、 E CU 2 3の入力側には、 上述のセンサ 1 1, 1 4及び 1 5が接続されると共に、 エンジン冷却水温を検出するための水温センサ 1 9、 ク ランク角を検出することによってエンジン回転数 N eを 検出するためのエンジン回転数センサ 2 1及び第 2図に 参照符号 1 8で一般的に示すその他のセンサが接続され、 これらのセンサからの検出信号は、 ECU 2 3へ入力さ れるようになっている。
詳細な図示を省略するが、 ECU 2 3は、 その主要部 としてプロセッサ (CPU) を備えており、 CPUの入 力ポートへは、 上記各種センサからの信号が適宜の入力 ィンタ一フェイスを介して或は直接的に入力されるよう になっている。 更に、 CP Uは、 プログラムデータや固 定値データを記憶した ROM, データを書換え可能に格 納するための RAM, バッテリが接続されている間はそ の記憶内容が保持されるバッテリバックアップ RAM等 の記憶装置にバスライ ンを介して接続され、 記憶装置と の間でデータの授受を行うようになっている。 又、 E C U 2 3の C P Uからの各種の制御信号は適宜の出カイン ターフヱイスを介して燃料噴射弁 8, I S Cバルブ 3 0, バイパスバルブ 4 2等へ出力されるようになっている。
エンジン Eの運転中、 燃料供給制御のため、 E CU 2 3は各気筒の燃料噴射弁 8の開弁時間 Tinj を次式 ( 1 ) に従って周期的に演算し、 この開弁時間 Tinj に応じた 駆動信号を燃料噴射弁 8に供給して、 開弁時間 Tinj に 対応する燃料量を、 今回周期において燃料供給すべき気 筒の吸入ポートに噴射供給する。
Tinj = A/N÷ A xK l XK 2 +T0 · · · ( 1 ) ここに、 AZNは、 一吸気行程で一つの気筒に吸入さ れる空気量である。 本実施例では、 吸入空気量 AZNは、 エアフローセンサ 1 1で検出したカルマン渦周波数 f と、 エンジン回転数センサ 2 1で検出したエンジン回転数 N eとに基づいて C PUによって算出される。 又、 後で更 に説明する空燃比制御に用いるリ ッチ燃焼運転時および リーン燃焼運転時の目標吸入空気量 AZNS, A/Nしは、 E C U 2 3に内蔵の記憶装置内にマップ形式で格納され ている。 本実施例では、 目標吸入空気量 AZNS , AZ NL は、 スロッ トル弁開度 とエンジン回転数 N eとの 関数で表され、 従って、 パラメータ 0, N eの種々の組 合せに夫々対応する一連の目標値 A/NS 及び一連の目 標値 AZNLがマップ形式で格納されている。
又、 式 (1) 中、 スは目標空燃比で、 リッチ燃焼運転 時には理論空燃比或はその近傍値; I S (例えば 1 4. 7 ) に設定され、 リツチ燃焼運転時には理論空燃比に関して 燃料希薄側の所定値 IL (例えば 2 2) に設定される。 本実施例では、 リーン燃焼運転時の目標空燃比 (第 2の 空燃比) として、 リーン燃焼運転領域全体に共通の 一つの固定した所定値が用いられる。
更に、 K 1は、 燃料流量を開弁時間に換算するための 係数で、 K 2は、 エンジン運転状態を表す各種パラメ一 夕の値に応じて設定される捕正係数値である。 捕正係数 値 2は、 例えばエンジン水温センサ 1 9によって検出 したエンジン水温 TW に応じて設定される水温捕正係数 値、 02 センサ 1 7で検出した排気ガス中の酸素濃度に 応じて設定される 02 フィードバック捕正係数値、 大気 圧センサ 2 6で検出した大気圧 Pa に応じて設定される 大気捕正係数値等を含む。 TO は、 バッテリ電圧等に応 じて設定される捕正値である。
次に、 第 3図及び第 4図を参照して、 空燃比をリッチ 側の値とリーン側の値との間で変化させるための空燃比 制御ルーチンを説明する。
空燃.比制御ルーチンは、 エンジン運転中に上述の燃料 供給制御と平行して、 電子制御装置 (E CU) 2 3によ り周期的に実行される。 空燧比制御ルーチンの各サイク ルにおいて、 E CU 2 3の C PUは、 例えば前回及び今 回サイクルで夫々検出したスロッ トルセンサ 7の出力信 号からスロッ トルセンサ 7の信号変化を算出し、 斯く算 出したセンサ信号変化に基づいて、 急発進運転状態, 急 加速運転状態を含む理論空燃比運転 (リ ッチ燃焼運転) 頜域でェンジン Eが運転されているか否かを判別する
(ステップ S 1 0 ) 。
ステップ S 1 0での判別結果が肯定、 すなわちェンジ ン Eがリッチ燃焼運転領域で運転されていると判別した 場合、 C P Uは、 バイパスバルブ 4 2のソレノィ ド 4 2 cへの駆動信号の供給を停止する (ステップ S 1 2 ) 。 この結果、 バイパスバルブ 4 2の弁体 4 2 aにより管路 4 4が閉塞されて、 負圧応動弁 4 1の弁体 4 1 aにより. バイパス通路 4 3が閉成され、 バイパス通路 4 3を介す るエンジン Eへの空気供給が停止される。 この様にして バイパスバルブ 4 2が非作動化されると、 今回サイクル での空燃比制御ルーチンが終了する。 リッチ燃焼運転時、 エンジン Eに供給される吸入空気量はスロッ トル弁開度 に応じて定まり、 又、 上記 ( 1 ) 式に従って燃料供給量 が求められ、 これにより、 理論空燃比 (第 1の空燃比) でリ ッチ燃焼運転が行われる。
一方、 ステップ S 1 0における判別結果が否定、 すな わちエンジン Eがリーン燃焼運転領域で運転されている と判定すると、 E C U 2 3の C P Uは、 バイパスバルブ 4 2のソレノイ ド 4 2 cに駆動信号を供給する (ステツ プ S 1 4 ) 。 この結果、 バイパスバルブ 4 2が開弁して 管路 4 4が開成し、 従って、 吸気通路 2内の負圧が負圧 応動弁 4 1の圧力室 4 1 cに供給されて負圧応動弁 4 1 が開弁し、 これにより、 バイパス通路 4 3を介してバイ パス空気がエンジン Eに供給される。 従って、 エンジン Eへの吸入空気は、 スロッ トル弁 7を介して供給される と共にバイパス通路 4 3からも供給されることになる。 次に、 CPUは、 スロッ トルセンサ 1 4で検出したス ロッ トル弁開度^とエンジン回転数センサ 2 1で検出し たエンジン回転数 N eとに従って、 パラメータ ^, N e の値に適合する、 リーン燃焼運転時の目標吸入空気量 A ZNL を記憶装置内のマップから読み出す (ステップ S 1 6) 。 そして、 CPUは、 エアフローセンサ 1 1で検 出したカルマン渦周波数 f とエンジン回転数センサ 2 1 で検出したエンジン回転数 N eとに基づいて実際吸入空 気量 AZNm を算出し、 次いで、 ステップ S 1 6で読み 出した目標吸入空気量 AZNL と実際吸入空気量 AZN m との偏差 ΔΑΖΝを求める (ステップ S 1 8) 。
更に、 次式 (2) に従って、 偏差 ΔΑΖΝに応じた I S Cバルブ 3 0の開度捕正値 Δ P ISCが C P Uによって 演算される (ステップ S 2 0) 。
Δ P ISC = KP · 厶 AZN · · · (2) ここに、 KP はフィードバック比例項ゲインで、 固定 の所定値に設定され、 或は、 例えばエンジン回転数 N e に応じて可変設定される。
次に、 CPUは、 ステップ S 2 0で算出した捕正値厶 P ISC と、 予め設定されかつ基本補助空気量に対応する 基本開度 PBAS とから、 I S C目標開度 P ISC を次式 ( 3 ) に従って演算する (ステップ S 2 2 )
PISC = PBAS +Δ P ISC · · · (3) 次に、 エンジン Eがアイ ドル運転状態にあるか否かが C P Uによって判別される (ステップ S 2 4) 。 ェンジ ン Eがアイ ドル運転状態になければ、 C PUは、 ステツ プ S 2 2で求めた I S C目標開度 P ISC に応じて I S C バルブ 3 0のデューティ率を設定し、 デューティ率に対 応する駆動信号を I S Cバルブ 3 0のソレノイ ド 3 O b に出力する (ステップ S 2 8) 。 この結果、 I S Cバル ブ 3 0は、 エンジン Eに供給すべき目標吸入空気量 A/
NL に対する実際吸入空気量の過不足分を調整するよう にオンオフデューティ制御され、 これにより、 エンジン
Eに目標空気量 AZNL 近傍の空気が供給される。
上述のように、 リーン燃焼運転時、 ステップ S 1 4で バイパスバルブ 4 2が開弁されると共にステップ S 2 8 で I S Cバルブ 3 0がォンオフデューティ制御されてバ ルブ 3 0の時間軸上での平均弁開度が調節される。 この 結果、 バイパス通路 4 3及び 3 1を介して供給される吸 入空気量が調節されて、 理論空燃比に関してリーン側の 所定空燃比 λ L でリーン燃焼運転が実現されることにな る。
一方、 上記ステップ S 2 4での判別結果が肯定、 すな わち、 エンジン Εがアイ ドル運転状態にあると判別され た場合、 従来公知のアイ ドル回転数制御が実行される (ステップ S 2 6 ) 。 このアイ ドル回転数制御は、 本発 明に特に関係がないのでその詳細な説明を省略する。 以上の説明から明かなように、 リ一ン燃焼運転からリ ツチ燃焼運転に移行した直後には、 バイパスバルブ 4 2 が閉じられてバイパス通路 4 3が遮断されることにより 吸入空気量 A Z Nが急減する。 そして、 リッチ燃焼運転 への移行直後での開弁時間 T inj は、 斯く急減した吸入 空気量 A ZNに基づいて演算され、 従って、 当該時点で の燃料供給量は、 急減した吸入空気量に対応する値にな る。 式 ( 1 ) から明かなように、 同式中の変数である目 標空燃比 λがリツチ燃焼運転への移行の前後においてさ ほど変化しなければ、 吸入空気量の減少に伴って燃料供 給量も減少する。 しかしながら、 リッチ燃焼運転への移 行時には、 式 (1 ) 中の目標空燃比 λもリーン燃焼運転 に適合する大きい値 (例えば 2 2 ) からリッチ燃焼運転 に適合する小さい値 (例えば 1 4 . 7 ) に設定し直され る。 この結果、 吸入空気量 Α ΖΝが急減するリ ツチ燃焼 運転への移行時にあっても、 燃料供給量はリーン燃焼運 転時の燃料供給量に比べて急減することがなく、 むしろ 燃料供給量は、 リ一ン燃焼運転からリッチ燃焼運転への 移行の前後において略一定に保持される。 従って、 ェン ジン出力変化を来すことなしに、 リーン燃焼運転からリ ツチ燃焼運転へ移行すべく、 空燃比を燃料リーン側の大 きい値から理論空燃比近傍の小さい値に変化させること ができる。
一方、 リ ッチ燃焼運転からリーン燃焼運転への移行直 後には吸入空気量 A Z Nが急増する。 しかしながら、 開 弁時間 T in j の演算に用いる式 ( 1 ) における空燃比; I の値は、 リーン燃焼運転への移行直後に、 リ ッチ燃焼の ための小さい値からリーン燃焼のための大きい値に変更 される。 従って、 燃料供給量はリ ツチ燃焼運転時のもの と略同一の値に保持することができ、 エンジン出力を変 化させずにリ一ン燃焼運転に移行させることができる。 この結果、 空燃比切換時のエンジン出力の急激な変化が 防止されることになる。
上述の特徴に関連して述べれば、 上記ステップ S 1 6 でマップから読み出されて空燃比制御のための吸入空気 量制御に用いられる目標吸入空気量 A Z N L は、 運転者 がアクセルペダルを踏込操作したときのスロッ トル弁開 度 においてリ ッチ燃焼させた場合に発生するエンジン トルクと略同じトルクをリーン燃焼で得るために必要な 空気量を意味している。 言い替えれば、 本実施例による 空燃比制御は、 エンジン Eに供給する燃料供給量を略一 定に保持しつつ、 空気量だけを増量して、 リ ッチ燃焼か らリーン燃焼に切り換えるのである。 この様にすれば、 切換時にエンジンに生じる トルクショックを防止するこ とができる。
以下、 本発明の第 2実施例による空燃比制御装置を説 明する。 リーン燃焼運転時に主及び副バイパス通路 4 3 , 3 1 を介する吸入空気量を目標量にフィ一ドバック制御する ようにした上記第 1実施例に比べて、 本実施例の空燃比 制御装置は、 リーン燃焼運転時に I S Cバルブの弁開度 ひいては吸入空気量をオープンループ制御する点が相違 する。
第 6図を参照して既に説明したように、 スロッ トル弁 開度の全領域においてスロッ トル弁開度と A C V開度
(負圧応動弁 4 1の弁開度) とが常に比例するようにす ることは困難であって、 スロッ トル弁開度が増大するに つれて、 第 6図に実線で示す実際 A C V開度は第 6図に 破線で示す最適 A C V開度に比べて小さくなる。 そこで、 本実施例では、 この A C V開度不足分を捕償すべく I S Cバルブの弁開度をオープンループ制御するようにして いる。 このため、 例えばエンジン回転数とスロッ トル弁 開度との種々の組合せに適合する I S Cバルブの一連の 目標開度が、 例えば実験的に予め求められて、 空燃比制 御装置の一部をなす E C U 2 3の記憶装置にマップ形式 で格納されている。
又、 電磁弁で構成した I S Cバルブ 3 0を備える上記 第 1実施例装置に比べて、 本実施例の空燧比制御装置は、 E C U 2 3の制御下で作動するステツビングモータ 1 3 1 とモータ出力軸にウォームギア 1 3 2を介して連結さ れモータ出力軸の回転につれてリフ ト量が変化する弁体 1 3 3 とを有するモータ駆動式の I S Cバルブ 1 3 0 (第 8図) を有する点が異なる。
その他の構成に関しては、 本実施例の空燃比制御装置 は、 第 1実施例の場合と同様、 第 1図及び第 2図に示すよ うに構成可能である。 又、 本実施例装置は、 第 1 ·図に示 す構成のエンジン Eと共に使用可能である。 従って、 本 実施例装置の構成説明を一部省略する。
以下、 第 7図を参照して、 第 2実施例における空燃比 制御ルーチンを説明する。
第 2実施例に係る第 7図のステップ S 3 0, S 3 2, S 3 4, S 3 8, S 4 0及び S 4 2は、 第 1実施例に係 る第 3図及び第 4図のステップ S 1 0, S 1 2 , S 1 4 , S 2 4 , S 2 6及び S 2 8と同一で、 両実施例に共通の 上記ステップについての説明を一部省略する。
E C U 2 3の C P Uにより周期的に実行される空燃比 制御ルーチンの各サイクルにおいて、 C P Uは、 スロ ヅ トルセンサ 7の信号変化に基づいて理論空燃比運転領域 でエンジン Eが運転されているとステップ S 3 0で判別 すると、 バイパスバルブ 4 2のソレノイ ド 4 2 cへの駆 動信号の供給を停止し (ステップ S 3 4 ) 、 これにより、 バイパス通路 4 3を介するエンジン Eへの空気供給を停 止させ、 今回サイクルでの空燃比制御ルーチンを終了す る。 従って、 スロ ッ トル弁開度に応じた吸入空気量と上 記 ( 1 ) 式に従って算出される燃料量とがエンジン Eに 供給され、 理論空燃比でリツチ燃焼運転が行われる。
一方、 エンジン Eがリーン燃焼運転領域で運転されて いるとステップ S 3 0で判定すると、 C P Uは、 バイパ スバルブ 4 2のソレノィ ド 4 2 cに駆動信号を供給する (ステップ S 3 4 ) 。 この結果、 吸気通路 2内の負圧が 負圧応動弁 4 1の圧力室 4 1 cに供給されて負圧応動弁 4 1が開弁し、 これにより、 バイパス通路 4 3を介して バイパス空気がエンジン Eに供給される。
次に、 C P Uは、 スロッ トルセンサ 1 4で検出したス ロッ トル弁開度 とエンジン回転数センサ 2 1で検出し たエンジン回転数 N eとに従って、 パラメータ ^, N e の値に適合する、 リーン燃焼運転時の I S Cバルブ 1 3 0の目標弁開度を記憶装置内のマップから読み出す (ス テツプ S 3 6 ) 。
次に、 エンジン Eがアイ ドル運転状態にないとステツ プ S 3 8で判別すると、 C P Uは、 図示しない I S Cバ ルブ 1 3 0の弁開度がこの目標弁開度になるように、 I S Cバルブのステツビングモータ 1 3 1の出力軸の回転 位置を制御する (ステップ S 4 2 ) 。 この結果、 リーン 燃焼運転時の目標空燃比を達成するために必要な吸入空 気量と主バイパス通路 4 3を介して供給される吸入空気 量との差、 すなわち吸入空気量の不足分に対応する量の 吸入空気が副バイパス通路 3 1を介してエンジン Eに供 条ロ れ o
上述のように、 リーン燃焼運転時、 ステップ S 3 4で バイパスバルブ 4 2が開弁されると共にステップ S 4 2 で I S Cバルブの弁開度が目標開度にオープンループ制 御される。 詳しくは、 スロ ッ トル弁開口面積 (スロッ ト ル弁開度に応じて定まる吸気通路開口面積) と、 これと 主及び副バイパス通路開口面積との和との比が、 理論空 燃比 (第 1の空燃比) とこれよりも燃料リーン側の目標 空燃比 (第 2の空燃比) との比に等しくなるように、 I S Cバルブ 1 3 0の弁開度がオープンループ制御される。 この結果、 バイパス通路 4 3及び 3 1を介して供給され る吸入空気量が調節されて、 理論空燃比に関してリーン 側の所定空燃比 λしでリ一ン燃焼運転が実現されること になる。
一方、 エンジン Εがアイ ドル運転状態にあるとステツ プ S 3 8で判別された場合、 従来公知のアイ ドル回転数 制御が実行される (ステップ S 4 0 ) 。
本発明は、 上記第 1及び第 2実施例に限定されず、 種 々に変形可能である。
例えば、 第 1実施例では、 I S Cバルブ 3 0として、 デューティ制御される電磁弁を用いたが、 これに代えて 第 2実施例で用いたパルスモータ駆動式の弁 1 3 0を用 いても良い。
又、 第 1実施例では、 リ一ン燃焼運転領域全体に共通 の目標空燃比; I L を用いたが、 目標空燃比; I L をェンジ ン Εの運転状態に応じて可変設定しても良い。 例えば、 目標空燃比 を、 エンジン運転状態を表す吸入空気量 A Ζ Ν及びエンジン回転数 N eの組合せに応じて可変設 定可能である。 換言すれば、 リーン燃焼運転領域全体を パラメ一夕 A/N及び N eに従って多数の小領域に区分 し、 異なる小領域に異なる目標空燃比; IL を適用しても 良い。 この場合、 吸入空気量 AZNとエンジン回転数 N eとの種々の組合せに夫々適合するように理論空燃比ス S よりも大きい値すなわちリーン側の値に夫々した一連 の目標空燃比 (第 2の空燃比) λ L を、 E C U 2 3に内 蔵の記憶装置にマップ形式で予め格納しておき、 ェンジ ン運転中、 パラメータ ΑΖΝ及び Neの実際値に従って 両パラメータ値に適合する目標空燃比 AL を記憶装置に 格納したマツプから読み出す。
目標空気量 AZNL をマップから読み出すようにした 上記第 1実施例の場合とは異なり、 目標空燃比 IL をェ ンジン運転状態に応じて可変設定する上記変形例では、 目標空気量 AZNL の設定にあたって、 スロッ トル弁開 度 とェンジン回転数 N eとに応じてリ ツチ燃焼運転時 の吸入空気量 AZNS と目標空燃比; L とをマップから 読み出し、 次式に従ってかつリ ッチ燃焼運転時の目標空 燃比; S を用いて目標吸入空気量 AZNL を演算する。
AZNL = AZNS ÷ λ S X AL
更に、 上記第 1実施例では、 目標吸入空気量と実際吸 入空気量との偏差 Δ ΑΖΝにフィ一ドバック比例項ゲイ ンを乗じることによって、 即ち、 式 (2) に従って、 I S Cバルブ 3 0の開度捕正値 APISC を算出したが、 I S Cバルブ開度捕正値の演算方法は、 これに限定されず、 種々の P I D制御方法を適用しても良い。 上記第 1実施例では、 リ ッチ燃焼運転のための空燃比 λ S からリーン燃焼運転のための空燃比; I L へ直ちに切 換えるようにしたが、 負圧応動弁 4 1による空気増量に 遅れが生じる場合は、 この空気増量遅れに併せて空燃比 を徐々に変化させるようにしても良い。
又、 空燃比リニアセンサを用いる場合には、 空燃比の 目標値を変化させるだけで良い。
吸入空気量をフィ一ドバック制御する第 1実施例では、 吸入通路 2に対する管路 4 4の開口端の形成位置として、 A C V負圧がスロッ トル弁開度におおよそ比例して変化 するようにするに足る位置を選択することは必須ではな い。
燃料供給制御にエアフローセンサを用いる方式に替え て、 スロ ッ トル弁下流の負圧を検出する負圧センサを用 いる方式等に本発明を適用できることは、 勿論のこ'とで ある。

Claims

請 求 の 範 囲
1 . エンジンに供給される混合気の空燧比を、 前記ェ ンジンが特定の運転状態にあるときに理論空燃比近傍の 第 1の空撚比に制御し、 又、 前記エンジンが前記特定の 運転状態以外の運転状態にあるときには前記第 1の空燃 比に関して燃料希薄側の第 2の空燃比に制御する内燃ェ ンジンの空燃比制御装置において、 前記エンジンの吸気 通路の途中に設けたスロッ トル弁をバイパスし両端が前 記吸気通路に連通する主バイパス通路と、 前記スロッ ト ル弁をバイパスし両端が前記吸気通路に連通する副バイ パス通路と、 前記主バイパス通路を介して吸入される空 気の量を調節するための主バルブ手段と、 前記副バイパ ス通路を介して吸入される空気の量を調節するための副 バルブ手段と、 前記ェンジンが前記特定の運転状態にあ るとき前記主バイパス通路を介する吸入空気供給が阻止 されるように前記主バルブ手段を駆動制御する一方、 前 記エンジンが前記特定の運転状態以外の運転状態にある ときは前記第 2の空燃比を達成可能とする吸入空気量が 前記主バイパス通路及び前記副バイパス通路を介して供 給されるように前記主バルブ手段及び前記副バルブ手段 を駆動制御するための制御手段とを備えることを特徴と する、 内撚エンジンの空燃比制御装置。
2 . 前記主バルブ手段は、 スロッ トル弁開度に応じて 変化する吸気通路内負圧に応動する負圧応動弁からなり、 前記制御手段は、 前記エンジンが前記特定の運転状態に あるとき前記負圧応動弁への負圧供給を阻止する一方、 前記ェンジンが前記特定の運転状態以外の運転状態にあ るとき前記負圧応動弁への負圧供給を許容する請求の範 囲第 1項記載の内燃エンジンの空燃比制御装置。 ·
3 . 前記負圧応動弁は、 負圧室と前記主バイパス通路 内に配され前記負圧室に供給される負圧に応じてリフ ト 量が変化する弁体とを有し、 前記主バルブ手段は、 前記 スロッ トル弁の直ぐ上流側において前記吸気通路に一端 が連通しかつ他端が前記負圧応動弁の前記負圧室に連通 する管路と、 該管路の途中に配されたバイパスバルブと を更に含み、 前記制御手段は、 前記エンジンが前記特定 の運転状態以外の運転状態にあるとき、 前記管路を介す る前記吸気通路から前記負圧室への負圧の供給を許容す るように前記バイパスバルブを駆動し、 又、 前記ェンジ ンが前記特定の運転状態にあるとき、 負圧供給を阻止す るように前記バイパスバルブを駆動する請求の範囲第 2 項記載の内燃ェンジンの空燃比制御装置。
4 . 前記副バルブ手段は電磁開閉弁からなり、 前記制 御手段は前記電磁開閉弁の、 時間軸上の平均弁開度に対 応するオンオフデューティ比を制御する請求の範囲第 2 項記載の内燃エンジンの空燃比制御装置。
5 . 前記副バルブ手段は、 ステッ ピングモータを含み モータ回転位置に応じた弁開度をとるモータ駆動式の弁 からなり、 前記制御手段は、 前記ステッピングモータの 回転位置を制御する請求の範囲第 2項に記載の内燃ェン ジンの空熾比制御装置。
6 . 前記エンジンへ供給される燃料の量を調節するた めの燃料供給手段を更に含み、 前記制御手段は、 前記ェ ンジンが前記特定の運転状態にあるとき、 少なぐとも前 記主バイパス通路を含まない前記吸気通路を介して供給 される吸入空気の量と前記燃料供給手段から供給される 燧料の量とによって前記第 1の空燃比が達成され、 前記 ェンジンが前記特定の運転状態以外の運転状態にあると き、 前記主及び副バイパス通路を含む前記吸気通路を介 して供給される吸入空気の量と前記燃料供給手段から供 給される燃料の量とによって前記第 2の空燃比が達成さ れるように前記燃料供給手段を駆動制御するとともに、 前記第 1の空燃比での運転から前記第 2の空燃比での運 転への切換に際しては、 その切換前後において前記ェン ジンから実質的に取り出すことのできる出力がほぼ変化 しないように前記吸入空気量の変化を生じせしめるべく、 前記主バルブ手段及び前記副バルブ手段を駆動制御する 請求の範囲第 1項記載の内燃エンジンの空燃比制御装置。
7 . 前記エンジンに加わる負荷を表すパラメータの値 を検出するための負荷パラメータ検出手段を更に含み、 前記制御手段は、 ェンジン負荷に応じて前記副バルブ手 段の弁開度をオープンループ制御する請求の範囲第 6項 記載の内燧ェンジンの空燃比制御装置。
8 . 前記エンジンに加わる負荷を表すパラメータの値 を検出するための負荷パラメータ検出手段と、 前記吸気 通路を介して吸入される空気の量を検出するための空気 量検出手段とを更に含み、 前記制御手段は、 前記ェンジ ンが前記特定の運転状態以外の運転状態にあるとき、 前 記第 2の空燃比を達成可能とする目標吸入空気量を、 検 出されたエンジン負荷パラメータ値に応じて演算し、 次 いで、 検出された実際吸入空気量と前記目標吸入空気量 との偏差に応じて前記副バルブ手段の弁開度をフィ一ド バック制御する請求の範囲第 6項記載の内燃エンジンの 空燃比制御装置。
9 . 前記負荷パラメータ検出手段は、 スロッ トル開度 を検出するためのスロッ トル開度検出手段であり、 前記 制御手段は、 前記目標吸入空気量を、 検出されたスロッ トル弁開度に応じて演算する請求の範囲第 8項記載の内 燃エンジンの空燃比制御装置。
1 0 . 前記エンジンがアイ ドル運転されているか否か を検出するためのアイ ドル運転検出手段を更に含み、 前 記制御手段は、 前記アイ ドル運転検出手段の検出結果を 受けて、 前記エンジンのアイ ドル運転時には、 前記ェン ジンの回転数が目標回転数となるようにェンジン回転数 と前記目標回転数との比較結果に基づいて前記副バルブ 手段を駆動制御するとともに、 前記エンジンのアイ ドル 運転以外の運転時には、 前記特定の運転状態とそれ以外 の運転状態との間での切換に際して前記主バルブ手段を 補って前記吸入空気量変化を生じせしめるべく、 前記副 バルブ手段を駆動制御する請求の範囲第 6項記載の内燃 ェンジンの空燃比制御装置。
1 1 . 前記主バルブ手段は、 スロッ トル弁開度に応じ て変化する吸気通路内負圧に応動する負圧応動弁からな り、 前記制御手段は、 前記エンジンが前記特定の運転状 態にあるとき前記負圧応動弁への負圧供給を阻止する一 方、 前記エンジンが前記特定の運転状態以外の運転状態 にあるとき前記負圧応動弁への負圧供給を許容する請求 の範囲第 1 0項記載の内燃エンジンの空燃比制御装置。
1 2 . 前記負圧応動弁は、 負圧室と前記主バイパス通 路内に配され前記負圧室に供給される負圧に応じてリフ ト量が変化する弁体とを有し、 前記主バルブ手段は、 前 記スロッ トル弁の直ぐ上流側において前記吸気通路に一 端が連通しかつ他端が前記負圧応動弁の前記負圧室に連 通する管路と、 該管路の途中に配されたバイパスバルブ とを更に含み、 前記制御手段は、 前記エンジンが前記特 定の運転状態以外の運転状態にあるとき、 前記管路を介 する前記吸気通路から前記負圧室への負圧の供給を許容 するように前記バイパスバルブを駆動し、 又、 前記ェン ジンが前記特定の運転状態にあるとき、 負圧供給を阻止 するように前記バイパスバルブを駆動する請求の範囲第 1 1項記載の内燃エンジンの空燃比制御装置。
