ステアリング機構 1は、 ドライバによって操作されるステアリングホイール 2 と、 このステアリングホイール 2に連結されたステアリング軸 3と、 ステアリン グ軸 3の先端部に設けられたピニオンギア 4と、 このピニオンギア 4に嚙合する ラックギア部 5 aを有し、 車両の左右方向に延びたラック軸 5とを有している。 ラック軸 5の両端にはタイロッド 6がそれぞれ結合されており、 このタイロッド 6は、 それぞれ、 操舵輪としての前左右輪 F L, F Rを支持するナックルアーム 7に結合されている。 ナックルアーム 7は、 キングピン 8まわりに回動自在に設 けられている。
この構成により、 ステアリングホイール 2が操作されてステアリング軸 3が回 転されると、 この回転がピニオンギア 4およぴラック軸 5によって車両の左右方 向に沿う直線運動に変換される。 この直線運動は、 ナックルアーム 7のキングピ ン 8まわりの回動に変換され、 これによつて、 前左右輪 F L , F Rの転舵が達成 される。
ステアリング軸 3の途中部には、 ステアリングホイール 2に加えられた操舵ト ノレクの方向および大きさに応じてねじれを生じるトーションバー 9と、 このトー ションバー 9のねじれの方向および大きさに応じて開度が変化する油圧制御弁 2 3とが介装されている。 この油圧制御弁 2 3は、 ステアリング機構 1に操舵補助 力を与えるパワーシリンダ 2 0に接続されている。 パワーシリンダ 2 0は、 ラッ ク軸 5に一体的に設けられたビストン 2 1と、 このピストン 2 1によって区画さ れた一対のシリンダ室 2 0 a, 2 0 bとを有しており、 シリンダ室 2 0 a, 2 0 bは、 それぞれ、 オイノレ供給/帰還路 2 2 a, 2 2 bを介して、 油圧制御弁 2 3 に接続されている。
油圧制御弁 2 3は、 さらに、 リザーバタンク 2 5およびオイルポンプ 2 6を通 るオイル循環路 2 4の途中部に介装されている。 オイノレポンプ 2 6は、 モータ 2 7によって駆動され、 リザーバタンク 2 5に貯留されている作動油をくみ出して 油圧制御弁 2 3に供給する。 余剰分の作動油は、 油圧制御弁 2 3からオイノレ循環 路 2 4を介してリザーバタンク 2 5に帰還される。
油圧制御弁 2 3は、 トーシヨンバー 9に一方方向のねじれが加わった場合には、 オイル供給/帰還路 2 2 a , 2 2 bのうちの一方を介してパワーシリンダ 2 0の シリンダ室 2 0 a, 2 0 bのうちの一方に作動油を供給する。 また、 トーシヨン バー 9に他方方向のねじれが加えられた場合には、 オイル供給/帰還路 2 2 a, 2 2 bのうちの他方を介してシリンダ室 2 0 a , 2 0 bのうちの他方に作動油を 供給する。 トーシヨンバー 9にねじれがほとんどカ卩わっていない場合には、 油圧 制御弁 2 3は、 V、わば平衡状態となり、 作動油はパヮーシリンダ 2 0に供給され ることなく、 オイル循環路 2 4を循環する。 油圧制御弁に関連する構成例は、 た とえば、 特開昭 5 9— 1 1 8 5 7 7号公報に詳しく開示されており、 その開示内 容はここに引用により組み込まれるものとする。
パワーシリンダ 2 0のいずれかのシリンダ室に作動油が供給されると、 ビスト ン 2 1が車幅方向に沿って移動する。 これにより、 ラック軸 5に操舵補助力が作 用することになる。
操舵補助力の大きさは、 オイルポンプ 2 6を作動させる電動モータ 2 7への印 加電圧を制御することによって調整される。 モータ 2 7は、 電子制御ユニット 3 0によって制御されるようになっている。 この電子制御ユニット 3 0は、 ステア リングホイール 2の舵角を検出する舵角センサ 1 1の出力信号と、 車両の速さを 検出する車速センサ 1 2の出力信号と、 トーシヨンバー 9に加えられたトルクの 方向および大きさを検出するトルクセンサ 1 3の出力信号とに基づいて、 モータ
2 7への印加電圧を定める。 これによつて、 舵角、 車速および操舵トルクに応じ た操舵補助力がステアリング機構 1に与えられることになる。 車速センサ 1 2は、 車両の速度を直接的に検出するものでもよく、 また、 車輪に関連して設けられた 車輪速センサの出力パルスに基づいて車両の速度を計算により求めるものであつ てもよい。
電子制御ユニット 3 0は、 C P U 3 1、 C P U 3 1のワークエリアなどを提供 する RAM 3 2、 および C P U 3 1の動作プログラムなどを記憶した R OM 3 3 と、 これらを相互接続するバス 3 4とを有している。
C P U 3 1は、 R OM 3 3に記憶された動作プログラムに従って動作し、 舵角、 車速および操舵トルクに対応した適切な操舵補助力がステアリング機構 1に与え られるようにモータ 2 7への印加電圧を制御する。
舵角センサ 1 1は、 イグニッションキースィッチが導通されてエンジンが始動 されたときのステアリングホイール 2の舵角を初期値 「0」 として、 この初期値 からの相対舵角を検出するものである。 電子制御ュニット 3 0は、 舵角センサ 1 1からの舵角データに基づいて舵角中点を検出し、 この検出された舵角中点と舵 角センサ 1 1からの相対舵角データとに基づいて、 舵角中点を基準としたステア リングホイール 2の舵角である絶対舵角を算出する。 舵角中点の検出は、 たとえ ば、 舵角センサ 1 1からの舵角データをサンプリングし、 舵角データの値のヒス トグラムを作成し、 所定のサンプリング数のデータが収集された後に最頻出舵角 データの値を舵角中点の舵角データとして求めることにより達成される。 その他、 舵角中点の検出には、 ここに引用により組み込まれる特開平 8—1 9 8 1 2 9号 公報に開示された技術など任意の方法が適用可能である。 いずれの方法を適用す る場合であっても、 ィダニッションキースィツチが導通されて電子制御ュニット
3 0による処理が開始された直後の期間には、 舵角中点は決定しておらず、 車両 がある程度の距離を走行するまでは、 舵角中点が確定することはない。
電子制御ユニット 3 0は、 下記表 1に示す起動条件 1、 起動条件 2、 または起 動条件 3のいずれかに基づいて、 モータ 2 7を起動する。 【表 1】
起動条件 1 :絶対舵角の絶対値が第 1しきい値 (たとえば、 9度) 以上
または、 舵角速度が 9 0度 Z秒以上
起動条件 2 :舵角変化が第 2しきい値 (たとえば、 3度) 以上
起動条件 3 :舵角変化が第 3しきい値 (たとえば、 1 6度) 以上
または、 舵角速度が 9 0度/秒以上
ただし、 第 3しきい値 >第 1しきい値 >第 2しきい値 である。
起動条件 1は、 絶対舵角の絶対値が比較的大きな第 1しきい値 (たとえば、 9 度) に達したとき、 または、 舵角速度が 9 0度/秒以上のときに、 モータ 2 7を 起動させる条件である。 この起動条件 1は、 車速が 10km/h未満で、 かつ舵角が中 点付近の所定範囲 (たとえば、 ± 5度。 すなわち、 ステアリングホイール 2の遊 び角程度の範囲) 内の値であるときに適用される。
起動条件 2は、 舵角変化が比較的小さな第 2しきい値 (たとえば、 3度) に達 したときにモータ 2 7を起動させる条件である。 この起動条件 2は、 車速が 10km /h未満であり、 舵角が中点付近の上記所定範囲外の値である場合に適用される。 また、 車速が 1 O km/h未満である場合であって、 舵角中点が未決定の場合は、 絶 対舵角を求めることができないので、 この起動条件 2が適用される。
起動条件 3は、 舵角変化が比較的大きな第 3しきい値 (たとえば、 1 6度) に 達したとき、 または、 舵角速度が 9 0度 Z秒以上のときに、 モータ 2 7を起動さ せる条件である。 この起動条件 3は、 車速が 10km/h以上の場合に、 適用される条 件である。
図 2は、 電動モータ 2 7の起動に関連する電子制御ュニット 3 0による処理を 説明するためのフローチャートである。 まず、 車速センサ 1 2からの車速データ および舵角センサ 1 1からの舵角データが読み込まれ (ステップ S 1 ) 。 そして 舵角データに基づいて、 舵角の変化率である舵角速度が算出され (ステップ S 2 ) さらに舵角データのサンプリング周期 (たとえば、 2 0 0マイクロ秒) 内におけ る舵角の変化量である舵角変化が算出される (ステップ S 3 ) 。 そして、 ステツ プ S 1で読み込まれた舵角データを用いて中点検出処理 (ステップ S 4 ) が行わ れる。 上記のように、 中点検出処理を行っても必ずしも直ちに舵角中点が決定さ れるわけではなく、 舵角中点が決定される場合もあれば、 決定できない場合もあ る。
次いで、 車速が 1 O km/h未満かどうかが判断される (ステップ S 5 ) 。 車速が 1 O km/h未満である場合には、 さらに、 舵角中点が決定済みかどう力、が判断され る (ステップ S 6 ) 。 舵角中点が決定されていれば、 舵角中点と舵角センサ 1 1 力 らの舵角データに基づいて絶対舵角を算出することができるので、 次に、 ステ 了リングホイール 2の舵角が舵角中点付近の上記所定範囲内の値であるかどうか が判断される (ステップ S 7 ) 。 この判断が肯定されれば、 上記起動条件 1が採 用され (ステップ S 8 ) 、 この起動条件が満たされれば (ステップ S 9 ) 、 モー タ 2 7が起動される (ステップ S 1 0 ) 。 こうして、 舵角が中点付近の値の場合 には、 低速走行時であっても、 絶対舵角の絶対値が、 比較的大きく設定された第 1しきい値に達しておらず、 かつ、 舵角速度が 9 0度 Z秒未満のときは、 モータ 2 7が起動されない。 したがって、 操舵補助の不要な舵角中点付近において、 モ ータ 2 7が無用に起動されることがなくなる。 これにより、 省エネルギー性が向 上される。
ステップ S 7において、 舵角が中点付近の値でないと判断された場合は、 起動 条件 2を採用する (ステップ S 1 1 ) 。 これにより、 低速走行中において舵角が 中点付近の値でない場合には、 比較的小さな舵角変化でモータ 2 7が起動される ことになるので、 キャッチアップの発生を効果的に防止することができる。 これ により、 低速走行時における良好な操舵フィーリングが得られる。
もしも、 ステップ S 6において、 舵角中点が決定されていないと判断されたな らば、 起動条件 2が採用され (ステップ S I 1 ) 、 この起動条件 2が満たされる 力、否かで、 モータ 2 7の起動を行う力、否かが決定される (ステップ S 9, S 1 0 ) これにより、 舵角中点が決定される以前においては、 全舵角範囲において、 比較 的小さな舵角変化でモータ 2 7が起動されることになる。 これにより、 低速走行 時におけるキャッチアップの発生を防止でき、 良好な操舵フィーリングが得られ る。
一方、 ステップ S 5において、 車速が 1 O km/h以上であると判断されたならば、 起動条件 3が採用される (ステップ S 1 2 ) 。 すなわち、 低速走行中でない場合 には、 舵角変化が比較的大きくなつた場合、 または、 舵角速度が大きい場合に、 モータ 2 7が起動されることになる (ステップ S 9, S 1 0 ) 。
ステップ S 9において起動条件が満たされない場合には、 ステップ S 1に戻る。 ただし、 舵角中点が決定された後には、 ステップ S 4の中点検出処理は省力、れて ちょい。
また、 モータ 2 7が起動された後には、 一定の条件 (たとえば、 舵角がステア リングホイール 2の遊び角の範囲内である状態が一定時間継続するなどの条件) が満たされれば、 モータ 2 7が停止されることになる。 そして、 モータ 2 7が停 止された後には、 ステップ S 1からの処理が行われる。 この場合にも、 舵角中点 が一旦決定された後には、 中点検出処理 (ステップ S 4 ) は、 省力、れてもよい。 以上のようにこの実施形態によれば、 舵角中点が決定される以前の絶対舵角の 検出を行えない期間には、 比較的小さな舵角変化が検出されたことに応答してモ ータ 2 7を起動することにより、 低速走行時における良好な操舵フィーリングが 確保される。 そして、 舵角中点が決定された後の絶対舵角の検出が可能な期間に は、 絶対舵角の絶対値が、 比較的大きく設定された第 1しきい値に達したこと、 および、 舵角速度が 9 0度/秒以上であることにそれぞれ応答して、 モータ 2 7 を起動するようにしている。 そのため、 舵角中点が決定された後には、 舵角中点 付近においてモータ 2 7が無用に起動されることがなくなるので、 省エネルギー 性を向上できる。
さらに、 この実施形態においては、 絶対舵角が舵角中点付近の値を有する場合 であっても、 舵角速度が大きい場合にモータ 2 7を起動する起動条件 1を採用す るようにしているので、 急操舵時などには必要な操舵補助力を速やかに発生させ ることができる。
この発明の一実施形態について説明したが、 この発明は、 上記以外の形態でも 実施することができ、 特許請求の範囲に記載された事項の範囲で種々の設計変更 を施すことが可能である。 産業上の利用可能性
本発明によるパワーステアリング装置は、 車両のステアリング機構に操舵補助 力を与えるために用いられる。

Claims

請 求 の 範 囲
1 . 電動モータにより駆動されるポンプの発生油圧によつて操舵補助力を発生さ せるパワーステアリング装置であって、
舵角中点および相対舵角を基に絶対舵角を検出する舵角検出手段と、 この舵角検出手段が検出する絶対舵角が第 1しきい値以上となったことに応 答して上記電動モータを起動する第 1制御手段と、
上記舵角検出手段が絶対舵角を検出していないときに、 舵角変化が、 上記第
1しきい値よりも小さな第 2しきレ、値以上となったことに応答して上記電動モ 一タを起動する第 2制御手段とを含む、 パワーステアリング装置。
2 . 上記舵角検出手段は、 相対舵角データを出力する舵角センサと、 この舵角セ ンサが出力する相対舵角データに基づいて舵角中点を求める中点検出手段とを 含み、
上記パワーステアリング装置は、 上記中点検出手段により舵角中点が決定さ れたか否かに基づいて、 上記舵角検出手段が絶対舵角を検出している力否かを 判定する判定手段をさらに含む、
請求項 1記載のパワーステアリング装置。
3 . 上記舵角検出手段が絶対舵角を検出している状態において、 絶対舵角が中点 付近の所定範囲内の値を有する場合には、 絶対舵角が上記第 2しきい値よりも 大きな第 3しきい値に達したことを条件として上記電動モータを起動し、 絶対 舵角が上記所定範囲外の値を有する場合には、 舵角変化が上記第 3しきい値よ りも小さな第 4しきい値に達したことに応答して上記電動モータを起動する手 段をさらに含む、 請求項 1または 2記載のパワーステアリング装置。
4 . 車速を検出する車速検出手段と、
上記車速検出手段によって検出される車速が所定値未満の場合に、 上記舵角 検出手段による絶対舵角の検出が行われている力、否かに応じて、 絶対舵角を基 準としたモータ起動制御と、 舵角変化を基準としたモータ起動制御との切り替 えを許容する手段をさらに含む、 請求項 1ないし 3のいずれかに記載のパワー ステアリング装置。
5 . 舵角中点および相対舵角を基に絶対舵角を検出する舵角検出手段と、 操舵捕 助力を発生するポンプを駆動する電動モータとを有するパワーステアリング装 置に適用される上記電動モ一タの起動制御方法であって、
上記舵角検出手段が検出する絶対舵角が第 1しきレ、値以上となったことに応 答して上記電動モータを起動する第 1制御ステップと、
上記舵角検出手段が絶対舵角を検出していないときに、 舵角変化が、 上記第
1しきい値よりも小さな第 2しきい値以上となったことに応答して上記電動モ ータを起動する第 2制御ステップとを含む方法。
. 上記舵角検出手段が絶対舵角を検出している状態において、 絶対舵角が中点 付近の所定範囲内の値を有する場合には、 絶対舵角が上記第 2しきい値よりも 大きな第 3しきい値に達したことを条件として上記電動モータを起動するステ ップと、
絶対舵角が上記所定範囲外の値を有する場合には、 舵角変化が上記第 3しき い値よりも小さな第 4しきい値に達したことに応答して上記電動モータを起動 するステップとをさらに含む、 請求項 5記載の方法。
