Definitions
- the present invention relates to a manual device for picking up waste on a surface such as the ground and temporarily storing it, before disposal or treatment.
- Waste collection on the ground must be carried out without contact with the user.
- the shovel and the broom are not suitable for all situations, having regard either to the nature of the waste or to the size of these utensils.
- gloves does not solve the difficulty for certain waste. In addition, they only offer a mechanical barrier which does not eliminate the feeling of touch, resulting in reluctance on the part of the user, given the nature of some of the waste picked up. Finally, gloves do not always ensure their protective role when handling blunt, sharp or dangerous objects from the point of view of hygiene (used syringe).
- the problem is particularly acute for dog excrement.
- the invention overcomes the drawbacks of the prior art mentioned above, and proposes a device making it possible to pick up waste on the ground and to store it temporarily, without contact and so as to overcome the reluctance of the user.
- the manual device for collecting waste on a surface such as the ground and their temporary storage comprising two sides, at least one of which is provided with a scraping edge, the sides being linked in an articulated manner along an edge parallel to the scraping edge, and being able to approach each other, in a pinching movement, so that after scraping the ground by said edge, the waste is held between the close sides forming a container or a substantially closed box (e)
- said device further comprising blocking means ensuring its maintenance or gripping is characterized in that the blocking means consist of a tab mounted so to be angularly offset from the plane of each sidewall and able either to cooperate with removable securing means on a gripping member, or to be worn on the user's fingers by two bo rds.
- the tab is suitable for carrying on the user's fingers by two parallel distal edges, substantially parallel to the scraping edge.
- flanks are brought together under the pressure either of the fingers of the user, or of an ad hoc mechanism.
- the tab is of quadrangular shape and protrudes on either side of the outer surface of the sides.
- each flank has an extension, the distal edge of which forms a scraping edge, so that after the flanks are brought together, the scraping edges abut one against the other, said extensions of the flanks being substantially parallel to the ground.
- the extensions of the flanks, the distal edges of which form a scraping edge consist in particular of double flaps folded back on themselves.
- tongues capable of being folded so as to be pressed against said double flaps in order to produce three thicknesses of material at the scraping edges.
- the device is formed by folding a sheet of semi-rigid material, such as cardboard, plastic or a compound of two.
- the device is in the form of a tray or a tray with edges at right angles, the distal edge of two opposite edges forming the scraping edges, the other two edges comprising, at their middle zone, fold lines allowing, when the flanks are approached, to fold said edges so that, after approaching the flanks, said edges close said box.
- the box has median sections connecting the flanges two by two, on each side of the sides, the box having a certain elasticity tending to return to its open position naturally when the sides are subjected to a pressure aimed at closing it. , the elasticity resulting from the substantially elastic deformation of the edges, on the one hand, and the shape and geometry of the median panels, on the other hand.
- the gripping member consists either of a leash box, or of a clamp associated with an upright and controlled remotely.
- the two sides are each connected by a fold line to a central strip on which the tab is fixed.
- the tab has two parallel and spaced apart tongues capable of being inserted into slots provided at the fold lines connecting the two sides to the central strip.
- locking means make it possible to keep it in the closed position.
- the locking means comprise at least one tab forming a clip capable of being inserted at the level of the double flaps.
- the tab forms part of the sheet and is obtained by partial cutting at the level of the central strip.
- FIG. 1 shows a sheet of semi-rigid material, shown flat, and from which was cut the device of the invention
- Figure 2 shows the device being assembled to form a tray with vertical edges;
- Figure 3 shows the device in the rest position;
- Figure 4 shows the device of Figure 3 in the inverted position
- Figure 5 shows a perspective view of the device forming a closed box
- FIG. 8 shows the device removably attached to a leash box
- FIG. 9 shows the device in the open position, temporarily attached to a clamp mounted on an arm;
- FIGS. 10 A and 10 B show another embodiment of the folding of the central sections extending the central strip, in the flat and folded position respectively (box closed); and
- FIG. 13 shows a perspective view of the device forming a closed box and provided with locking means in the closed position
- FIG. 15 shows the device in the open position and provided with the tab of FIG. 14.
- FIG. 16 shows the device in the open position and provided with a third embodiment of the tab.
- Figure 1 a perspective view, a flat cardboard sheet, having cutting and folding lines, to make a box such as that shown in Figure 2 (shown almost finished) and in Figures 3 and 4.
- the sheet 1 comprises two rectangular sides 2 and 3, each connected by a fold line 4, 5 to a central strip 6.
- the box has a double line of articulation at the level of this central strip 6 by means of the two fold lines 4 and 5.
- the sides 2 and 3 are associated with lateral extensions respectively 7, 8 and 9, 10, which are themselves each extended by a tongue 11, 12, 13 and 14, on their distal side (away from the central strip 6).
- the distal edge of each flank is extended by a double flap 15, 16, the distal edge of which comprises tongues 17 to 20.
- the central strip 6 is likewise extended on its end edges by a median face 22, 23, each of the sides being linked, by a fold line, to the corresponding extension 7, 9 and 8, 10.
- An external tab 21a (shown detached in FIG. 1), of substantially quadrangular shape, is fixed to the external face of the sheet 1, that is to say on the underside in the representation of FIGS. 1 and 2.
- the tab 21a is, for example, fixed by gluing to the central strip 6 as shown in FIG. 4.
- two other detachable tabs 21 b and 21c capable of forming a clip for locking the box in the closed position, are associated with the tab 21a.
- These clips 21b and 21c are fixed along a fold line to the edges of the tab 21a.
- the tab 21 a as well as the detachable clips 21 b and 21 c are made of the same material as the sheet 1 constituting the box.
- the extensions 7, 9 and 8, 10 are folded so that the latter, with the central sections 22 and 23 and the tongues 11 to 14, are perpendicular to the plane formed by the central part. 6 and the sides 2 and 3.
- the tongues 11 are rotated 90 to 90 ° towards the inside of the box.
- the double flaps 15 and 16 are first folded back on themselves over the tabs 11 to 14; then the tongues 17 to 20 are introduced into slots provided opposite on the corresponding fold lines 24, 25. This particular configuration of the double flaps 15, 16 and of the tongues 11 to 14 leads to a significant reinforcement of these parts of the box.
- the combination of the double flaps 15, 16 and the tongues 11 to 14 achieves three thicknesses of material at the edges 29 and 30 constituting scraping edges.
- this triple thickness at the scraping edges 29 and 30 is of great importance during its handling by increasing the rigidity and the resistance of these parts which are in contact with the ground.
- Figure 3 shows the finished box, at rest. Due to the fold lines provided on the central sections 22 and 23, the latter are slightly folded back on themselves.
- the box has a certain inward concavity. In other words, the box is slightly folded, the two sides forming an obtuse angle with the plane formed by the central strip.
- Figure 4 shows the box of Figure 3, viewed from the bottom side. It can be seen that the outer tab 21a is fixed (for example by gluing) to the central strip 6, and its dimensions (relative to the latter) are such that the tab 21a protrudes on either side of the central strip 6.
- the optional locking clips 21b and 21c have not been shown. Due to the angle formed between the sides 2 and 3 and the central strip 6, different from 180 °, the outer tab 21a is angularly offset relative to the plane of each side.
- One of the modes of use of the device of the invention is as follows.
- the fingers are arranged in the form of a clamp ( Figure 6). More particularly, the thumb 27 bears against the outside face of the sidewall 3, while the other fingers 28 bear on the other sidewall 2.
- the user exerts pressure on the sides 2 and 3, by the thumb and the other fingers, in a pinching movement, while holding the box against the ground by its scraping edges, which approach one of the another by scraping the ground and pushing the waste towards the inside of the box.
- the parts in triple thicknesses formed by the superposition of the double flaps 15, 16 and the tongues 11 to 14 are in a plane substantially parallel to the ground.
- This arrangement facilitates the loading of waste and eliminates any undesirable inclination between the double flaps 15, 16 and the ground.
- central strip 6, associated with the two fold lines 4 and 5 ensures symmetrical closure of the box.
- the fold lines on the central sections 22 and 23, as well as their shape and geometry, facilitate and allow the creation of a closed interior space, delimited by the walls of the box.
- the width of the central strip 6 is substantially equal to or slightly less than the cumulative width of the double flaps 15 and 16.
- the waste is then placed in the closed box.
- the user's hand never comes into contact with the waste.
- the user keeps the box closed while maintaining its pressure on the sides, and transports it to a place of evacuation and / or treatment.
- the oblique edges of the tongues defining the V prevent the natural opening of the sides 2 and 3 by keeping the scraping edges 29 and 30 close together.
- the user can transport the closed box without having to apply any pressure on the sides.
- the gripping and holding of the box in the hand of the user are improved, according to the invention, by the outer tab 21a.
- the tab 21a carries by its distal edges 31 and 32 (away from the central strip) on the substantially middle part of the user's fingers (towards the inside of the hand), namely the edge 32 against the thumb, and the edge 31 against the other four fingers.
- the box has a certain elasticity tending to return to its open position naturally ( Figures 3 and 4) when the sides are no longer subjected to the pressure of the fingertips to close it.
- the elasticity is due to the substantially elastic deformation of the edges 7, 9 and 8, 10, on the one hand, and to the shape and the geometry of the central sections 22 and 23, on the other hand. This elastic reaction of the sides 2 and 3 against the end of the fingers helps to reinforce the reliable holding or gripping of the box by the user.
- the box once in the closed position can be fixed removably on a prehensile member by hand.
- said prehensile member consists of a housing 33 of leash 34 ( Figure 8). This is provided with slide retaining means 35 capable of receiving the edges of the outer tab 21a.
- Two tabs (a single tab 36 is shown in FIG. 8) are provided on either side of the box 1, to keep it closed, by applying on the sides 2 and 3 forces equivalent to the pinching forces exerted by the user's fingers.
- the full box / box assembly is transported to a container (trash can) against the edge of which the extensions 7 and 9 or 8 and 10 are carried and the box is made to slide, moving the box 33 downwards until to separate the box which then falls into the container.
- Pads 37 and 38 (FIG. 8) made of absorbent and / or hydrophilic material are provided on the external faces of the double flaps 15 and 16, to allow the user to wipe the floor, or the surface where the waste was located, with the box kept closed.
- Figure 9 is shown another form of use of the device according to the invention, where the box 1 is removably secured to a hand tool 39, provided with a handle 40, one end of which is provided with a handle 41 associated with an articulated lever 42.
- a control mechanism 47 capable of rotating two articulated arms 48 and 49 along an axis parallel to the scraping edges 29 and 30 and to the longitudinal axis of the central strip 6.
- the free end of the arms 48 and 49 rest or bear on the sides 2 and 3 respectively.
- the lever 42 connected by a cable or a rod 43 to the control mechanism 47, allows the spacing and the bringing together of the arms 48 and 49 to be controlled by hand.
- the user to pick up and transport the waste on the ground, first of all, threads the outer tab 21a on the slides 45 and 46 of the plate 44 fixed to the distal end of the handle 40.
- the box is in the open position ( Figure 9) and the box / means assembly 39 is approached from the ground so that the scraping edges 29 and 30 bear against the ground and the box covers the waste.
- the lever 42 By actuating the lever 42, the free ends of the arms 48 and 49 come closer and cause the closure of the box, while scraping the ground at the level of the waste which is entrained towards the inside of the box.
- the assembly with the box closed, is transported to a bin, where the user has the extensions (7 and 9 for example) carried on the edge of the bin and slides the box until it ci separates from the retaining plate 44.
- FIGS. 10A, 11A, 12A there is shown a partial schematic view of the box in the open position, showing different embodiments of one of the central sections (22).
- FIGS. 10B, 11B, and 12B show in partial perspective the closed box and more particularly at the level of the corresponding middle panel 22.
- the central sections 22 and 23 are folded as shown in FIG. 11A but, when the box is closed by folding at the fold lines 4 and 5, these sections 22 and 23 project towards the outside of the enclosure delimited by said box, contrary to the representation of FIG. 11B.
- This form of folding the sides 22 and 23 outward makes it possible to obtain a more natural folding of the assembly and therefore less resistance when the box is closed. This resistance tends to keep the box in its natural semi-open position and also ensures good contact on the user's fingers at all times.
- FIG. 14 Another embodiment of the tab 21a is shown in FIG. 14.
- Said tab 21a has two parallel and spaced tongues 21d and 21e connected by a transverse strip 21f. These tongues 21d and 21e are intended to be inserted into four slots 51 to 54 (shown in FIG. 15), facing two by two and located at the level of the central part of the fold lines 4 and 5.
- one or more locking clips 21b and 21c can be associated with the tab 21a along a cutting line arranged along the tongues 21d and 21e.
- the tab 21a is associated with the central strip 6 by means of the tongues 21 d and 21e, which are respectively inserted in the slots 51 and 53 for the tongue 21 d and the slots 52, 54 for the tongue 21e.
- the tab 21a is part of the sheet 1.
- the distal edges 31 and 32 are therefore cut in the sides 2 and 3 and the tab 21a is detached from the sides 2 and 3 as soon as the closure of the box begins.
- a sheet of identical material is bonded to the inside of the sheet 1 to cover the openings 31a and 32a which appear at the distal edges 31 and 32 when the box is closed, in order to prevent any contact between the waste and the user's hand.
- the precut sheet and provided with fold lines (Figure 1) is arranged on the packaging or the container (metal tin) containing dog food. Said sheet can even carry on one of its faces the consumer information, and be wound on the cylindrical container.
- the box is in the form of a pre-mounted tray (as shown in Figure 2, with the double flap 15 folded) and containing consumer products such as food for dogs, all covered with plastic film or the like. The user removes said film, and the tray can for example serve as a container or bowl for the dog which directly draws its food there. Once the tray is empty, it becomes the box described above for the collection and temporary storage of dog excrement.
