ところで、 例えばヘアードライャを例にとって見ると、 近年のヘアードライ ャは、 ドライヤとしての性能を上げるために高熱で大きな風量 (風速) を出す 大容量のものが多くなっている。 このように高熱で大きな風量を出す大容量の ヘアードライヤでは、 ファンの大型化に加えてヒータも大型化しなければなら ない。 したがって、 使用時には 1 O Aを越えるような大電流が流れるものが多 くなつてきている。
一般に、 接点間を流れる電流が大きいほど又は電圧が高いほど、 その電流が 遮断されるときに開放する接点間にアークが発生するが、 上記のように 1 0 0 Vの高電圧で 1 O Aもの大電流が流れる場合も同様に電流遮断時に接点間にァ ークが発生する。 そして、 上記のように大容量のヘアードライヤの場合は、 そ の使用中にはヒータに対する電源の通電と遮断は比較的頻繁に行われている。 以上で説明した従来技術としてのサーマルプロテクタについては 1つの問題 点がある。 すなわち、 上記のように電源遮断時に接点間に発生するアークが接 点間で放電している時間は巨視的にみれば瞬間であり、 通常は、 大きな流量の 熱風の中でも風によって流されもぜず瞬時に発生し瞬時に消えるが、 風速が限 度を超えると、 アークが接点間から外れて周囲の通電部材に移行する場合が多 くなることである。
一般にアークの温度は数千。 Cと非常に高温のため、 たとえ瞬時であっても微 視的にみると、 接点間のアークが接点以外の導電部材に飛ぶと、 その部位が異 常に加熱されて溶解してしまうという現象が起きることが判ってきた。
このように接点周囲の導電部材の溶解が度重なると、 やがてはそれらの導電 部材の損耗を早め、 或は短絡の原因となるなどの種々の不具体の要因となる。 本発明の目的は、 上記従来の実情に鑑み、 大電流を大風量の中で遮断しても 接点間のアークが風速によつて接点間から外れて流され周囲の部材を傷めるこ となく正しく電流遮断を完了させるサ一マルプロテクタを提供することである。 発明の開示
発明の実施の形態において、 サーマルプロテクタは、 設定温度を境界として 反り返り方向を反転するバイメタルによって電気回路を開閉するサーマルプロ テクタであって、 外部回路接続端子の一方の端子に連結された固定接点と、 外 部回路接続端子の他方の端子に接続されて上記固定接点に対応する位置に配置 された可動接点と、 上記固定接点と上記可動接点の配置部を三方から取り囲み、 上記固定接点と上記可動接点の接点動作を阻害しない範囲で上記固定接点と上 記可動接点とに近接し、 少なくとも上記固定接点の高さよりも高く形成された 隔壁と、 を備えて構成される。

同図に示すように、 この変形例のサーマルプロテクタ 3 0は、 図 1 (c) に示 したと同様に電流遮断時の接点開放状態を示しており、 固定接点 2 7に対し可 動接点 2 3は接点変位時の最上部に位置している。 そして、 接点間のギャップ は図 1の場合と同様にギャップ gである。 これに対して隔壁 3 1 (三方の内中 央部の隔壁 3 1— 1、 二方の隔壁 3 1— 2 ) は、 三方の中央部の隔壁 3 1— 1 のみでなく二方の隔壁 3 1— 2も、 接点間のギヤップ gよりも高く且つ接点解 放時の可動板 2 2の一方の端部 2 2— 2の高を越えない高さ (つまり同等の高 さでもよレ、) に構成されている。
このように、 三方の中央部の隔壁 3 1— 1のみでなく二方の隔壁 3 1— 2で も可動接点 2 3と可動板 2 2の一方の端部 2 2 _ 2を囲むように構成した場合 には、 風がますます接点間に直接流入し難くなり、 したがって、 風速のより強 い機器に対処することができる。
但し、 風が接点間に直接流入することを防止するためには隔壁は高いほど良 いという訳ではなく、 例えば図 2に破線 3 2で示すように、 隔壁が可動接点 2 3と可動板 2 2の一方の端部 2 2一 2を越えて余りに高く形成された場合は、 接点間で発生するアークを隔壁 3 2内の狭い空間に閉じ込める作用が強く働き 過ぎ、 アーク及びその周囲を高温化させ、 アークによって可動板先端部 2 2— 2やバイメタル 2 6の先端部まで溶かすという不具合が発生する。
したがって、 上述したように、 障壁 3 1は、 接点開放時のギヤップ gより高 く設定される必要はあるが、 可動接点 2 3や可動板 2 2の先端部 2 2— 2の高 さを超えない高さであることが必要となる。
尚、 上記実施の形態及びその変形例では、 いずれも、 接点部分のみを囲むよ うに限定して隔壁を配設しているが、 これに限ることなく、 外部回路接続端子 1 7及び 1 8を除くサーマルプロテクタの本体部分全体を取り囲むように形成 してもよい。 これを第 2の実施の形態として以下に説明する。
図 3は、 第 2の実施の形態におけるサーマルプロテクタの斜視図である。 尚、 同図も、 隔壁の構成以外の構成部分は図 1に示すサーマルプロテクタ 1 5の場 合と同様であるので、 図 3には説明に必要な構成部分にのみ番号を付与して示 している。 図 3に示すように、 このサーマルプロテクタ 3 3は、 外部回路接続端子 1 7 及び 1 8を除くサーマルプロテクタの本体部分全体 3 4を取り囲むように隔壁 3 5が形成されている。 この場合も、 隔壁 3 5の高さは、 接点開放時のギヤッ プ g (図 1 (c) 又は図 2参照) よりも高く且つ可動接点 2 3や可動板 2 2の先 端部 2 2— 2の高さを超えない高さであるように形成される。
このように、 外部回路接続端子 1 7及び 1 8を除くサーマルプロテクタの本 体部分全体 3 4を隔壁 3 5でが取り囲むように形成することにより、 どの方向 からも風が接点間に直接流入し難くなる構成となるので、 機器内でのサ一マル プロテクタ 3 3の配設方向を、 風速の方向に対して斜めや直交する向きに配置 しても、 大電流遮断時の開放接点間のアークが大風速に流されて接点周囲の通 電部材を損傷する不具合を防止する効果が維持され、 したがって、 サーマルプ ロテクタを内部に配設する機器の設計の自由度が大きくなつて便利である。
以上詳細に説明したように、 本発明によれば、 近年の大電流を使用するヘア ードライヤ、 電子ファンヒータ、 ポップコーンマシン等に内蔵される温度過昇 防止器としてのサーマルプロテクタに於いて、 アークを過剰に閉じ込めない範 囲の高さの隔壁を少なくとも接点近傍に配設するようにしたので、 大電流遮断 時においても、 また大流量の風の中でも、 接点間のアークが風に流されて接点 間から外れ接点近傍の通電部材に飛び散ることがないようにすることができる。 その結果、 接点周囲の通電部材が飛来するアークによって異常に加熱されて 溶解し、 損傷が早まったり短絡の原因となる不具合が解消されて機器の信頼度 が向上するという効果が得られる。
また、 サーマルプロテクタの本体部分全体を隔壁で囲むことにより、 どの方 向からも風が接点間に直接流入し難いように構成したので、 機器内でのサーマ ルプロテクタの配設方向を風速の方向に対して斜めや直交する向きに配置して も大電流遮断時の開放接点間のアークが大風速に流されて接点周囲の通電部材 を損傷する不具合を防止する効果が維持される。 したがって、 サー
クタを内部に配設する機器の設計の自由度が大きくなつて便利である 産業上の利用可能性
以上のように本発明のサーマルプロテクタは、 大電流を使用する又は大流量 の風を使用する機器内の所望の位置に配置しても、 通電部材の溶解、 損傷、 短 絡等による不具合がなく信頼度が高いので、 大電流を使用する又は大流量の風 を使用し且つ高レ、信頼度を必要とする例えばヘアードライヤ、 電子ファンヒー タ、 ポップコーンマシン等のように熱風発生装置を用いる全ての産業において 利用することが可能である。

Claims

請求の範囲
1 . 設定温度を境界として反り返り方向を反転するバイメタルによって電気回 路を開閉するサーマルプロテクタであって、
外部回路接続端子の一方の端子に連結された固定接点と、
外部回路接続端子の他方の端子に接続されて前記固定接点に対応する位置に 配置された可動接点と、
前記固定接点と前記可動接点の配置部を三方から取り囲み、 前記固定接点と 前記可動接点の接点動作を阻害しない範囲で前記固定接点と前記可動接点とに 近接し、 少なくとも前記固定接点の高さよりも高く形成された隔壁と、
を備えたことを特徴とするサーマルプロテクタ。
2 . 前記可動接点は前記バイメタルに係合する可動板の一方の端部に配設され、 該可動板の他方の端部は前記外部回路接続端子の前記他方の端子に固定して接 続され、 前記隔壁は三方の少なくとも中央部の隔壁が接点解放時の前記固定接 点と前記可動接点間の接点ギヤップょりも高く且つ接点解放時の前記可動板の 一方の端部の高さを越えない高さであることを特徴とする請求項 1記載のサー マノレプロテクタ。
3 . 前記隔壁は、 少なくとも前記固定接点を越える高さであり、 前記可動板の 周囲を取り囲んで設けられ,ることを特徴とする請求項 1又は 2記載のサーマル
4 . 前記隔壁は絶縁材から成ることを特徴とする請求項 1、 2又は 3記載のサ
5 . 前記隔壁は前記一方の端子及び他方の端子と一体に形成されていることを 特徴とする請求項 1、 2、 3又は 4記載のサーマルプロテクタ。
