Abstract

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Betreiben eines Wasserdampfplasmabrenners (6) mit einer Kathode (22) und einer als Düse (23) ausgebildeten Anode (24) zum Bearbeiten eines Werkstücks (20), wobei während des Betriebes zwischen der Kathode (22) und der Anode (24) und bzw. oder dem Werkstück (20) über eine Stromquelle (2) ein Strom eingeprägt wird, wobei nach dem Zünden eines Pilotlichtbogens zwischen der Kathode (22) und der Anode (24) bei Annäherung des Wasserdampfplasmabrenners (6) an das Werkstück (20) zwischen der Kathode (22) und dem Werkstück (20) ein Arbeitslichtbogen gebildet, und der Pilotlichtbogen durch Wegschalten der Stromquelle (2) von der Anode (24) gelöscht wird und der Strom auf einen vorgegebenen Arbeitsstrom erhöht wird. Zur Erzielung eines optimalen Betriebs eines Wasserdampfplasmabrenners wird während des Arbeitsbetriebs die Spannung (UUE) zwischen der Kathode (22) und dem Werkstück (20) überwacht, und zur Neubildung des Pilotlichtbogens die Stromquelle (2) wieder an die Anode (24) geschaltet, sobald die Spannung (UUE) einen Schwellwert (IUEs) überschreitet.
