パッチアンテナ装置及びアンテナ装置
技術分野
[0001] この発明は、 UHF帯 RFIDのハンディターミナル等に使用可能なパッチアンテナ装 置及びアンテナ装置に関するものである。
背景技術
[0002] ノ ツチアンテナ装置は、導体によって形成されるグラウンド電極と、このグラウンド電 極上に載置された誘電体基体と、この誘電体基体上に形成された導体の放射電極と で構成されている。
力、かる構成のパッチアンテナ装置は、薄型化が可能で且つ高利得が得られるだけ でなぐ同軸線路やマイクロストリップ線路等の不平衡回路との相性が良ぐこれらの 回路に容易に整合させることができる等の多くのメリットがある。
このことから、パッチアンテナ装置は RFIDのハンディターミナルやその他の送受信 機に広く使用されて!/、る (例えば、特許文献 1参照)。
[0003] また、アンテナ装置には、パッチアンテナ装置をパッチアンテナ素子として用い、こ れら多数のパッチアンテナ素子を配列して構成したアレイ型のアンテナ装置も考案さ れてレ、る(例えば、特許文献 2参照)。
力、かるアレイ型のアンテナ装置は、平面的構成を採っているのが、一般的である。 すなわち、多数の放射電極を 1枚の誘電体基体の広い表面に平面的に配列し、同 軸ケーブルを誘電体基体の裏面側から各放射電極に接続して、給電部からの電力 をこの同軸ケーブルを通じて各放射電極に給電したり、又はストリップラインを誘電体 基体の裏面等に設けて、給電部からの電力をこのストリップラインを通じて各放射電 極に電磁結合させることで、放射電極からの電波を誘電体基体表面に対して垂直な 正面方向に放射する。

発明の開示
[0005] しかし、上記した従来のパッチアンテナ装置には、次のような問題がある。
パッチアンテナ装置を小型化する場合には、誘電体基体の比誘電率を高くする方 法力 Sとられる。しかし、誘電体基体の比誘電率を高くして、アンテナ電極のサイズを小 さくすると共に、グランド電極のサイズをも小さくしょうとすると、背面のグランド側への 放射が増加し、正面側への放射利得が減少してしまう。
すなわち、パッチアンテナ装置を小型化すると、 F/B比(Front to Back ratio)が劣 化し、急激に正面方向の利得が低下するという不具合が生じる。
したがって、高誘電率基体を用いたパッチアンテナ装置において、所望の利得や F /B比を得ようとすると、グランドサイズを半波長程度以上に設定しなければならず、 ノ ツチアンテナ装置の小型化が困難であった。
このように、従来のパッチアンテナによるパッチアンテナ装置では、利得や F/B比 の増加と装置の小型化との両方を同時に得ることができな力、つた。
[0006] また、従来のアレイ型のパッチアンテナ装置では、多数の放射電極を 1枚の誘電体 基体の広レ、表面に配列した平面構成を採用して!/、るので、広 、実装面積を小型の 電子機器内に必要とし、狭いアンテナ実装領域には、実装すること力できない。これ に対して、アンテナ素子数を減らして、小型化する方法も考えられるが、アンテナ素 子数を減らすと、所望の利得を得ることができなくなってしまう。
[0007] この発明は、上述した課題を解決するためになされたもので、正面方向への十分な 利得を確保しつつ小型化が可能でし力、も指向性を容易に変えることが可能なパッチ アンテナ装置及びアンテナ装置を提供することを目的とする。
[0008] 上記課題を解決するために、請求項 1の発明は、正面と背面とが互いに対向し且 つこれら正面及び背面に垂直な断面がほぼ長方形状をなす誘電体基体と、当該誘 電体基体の正面に形成され且つ給電部に接続された第 1の電極と、当該誘電体基 体の背面に形成された第 2の電極とを備えるパッチアンテナ装置であって、第 1の電 極の幅を、励振方向を向く当該第 1の電極の長さの 4分の 1以下に設定すると共に、 第 2の電極の幅を、励振方向を向く当該第 2の電極の長さの 4分の 1以下に設定し、 誘電体基体の正面及び背面のそれぞれの幅を、第 1及び第 2の電極のそれぞれの 幅に等しく設定すると共に、当該誘電体基体の厚さを当該幅の 1倍以上に設定した
構成とする。
かかる構成により、給電部から第 1の電極に給電すると、所定周波数の電磁波が、 第 1の電極から放射される。このとき、第 1の電極と第 2の電極の幅がそれぞれその長 さの 4分の 1以下に設定され、しかも、誘電体基体の正面及び背面の幅もこれら第 1 及び第 2の電極のそれぞれの幅に等しく設定されて!/、るので、パッチアンテナ装置全 体の小型化は図られているが、パッチアンテナ装置の利得が低下するおそれがある
。しかし、この発明のパッチアンテナ装置では、誘電体基体の厚さが当該幅の 1倍以 上に設定されているので、利得の低下が抑えられ、十分な利得を確保することができ

具体的には、リアクタンス値を適宜設定することで、他方のパッチアンテナ素子から 放射される電磁波の位相や振幅を変えると共に、 1対のパッチアンテナ素子の間隔 を波長に対応させて設定することで、一方のパッチアンテナ素子から正面方向に放 射する電磁波の利得を高くすることができると共に、背面方向に存する電磁波を減衰 させて、 F/B比を高めること力 Sできる。

アンテナ素子の第 2電極と後段のサブアレイユニットの第 1パッチアンテナ素子の第 1 電極とが対向するように、上記複数のサブアレイユニットを所定間隔で 1列に配列し た構成とする。
かかる構成により、前位の給電素子である第 1パッチアンテナ素子と後位の無給電 素子である第 2パッチアンテナ素子とが交互に所定間隔で配列されて!/、るので、第 1 及び第 2パッチアンテナ素子が電波の放射方向に沿って 1列に並んだ状態になる。 したがって、この発明のアンテナ装置では、複数の放射電極を誘電体基体の表面に 平面的に配列した従来のアレイ型のパッチアンテナ装置と異なり、面方向への広がり がなぐアンテナ実装面積が狭い電子機器に対しても、容易に実装することができる また、各サブアレイユニットにおいて、第 1パッチアンテナ素子に給電すると、所定 周波数の電波が、第 1パッチアンテナ素子から前方及び後方に放射される。そして、 後方への電波が第 2パッチアンテナ素子と電磁結合して、第 2パッチアンテナ素子が 当該所定周波数で共振する。このとき、第 1及び第 2パッチアンテナ素子自体のリア クタンス値やこれらの素子間隔を適宜設定することで、後方への電波が減衰され、前 方への電波の利得のみを高くすることができる。かかる設定により、各サブアレイュニ ットは、高利得の電波を前方に放射させることができる。したがって、この発明のアン テナ装置では、このような複数のサブアレイユニットが、前段のサブアレイユニットの 第 2パッチアンテナ素子の第 2電極と後段のサブアレイユニットの第 1パッチアンテナ 素子の第 1電極とが対向するように、所定間隔で 1列に配列されているので、サブァ レイユニット同士の間隔を適宜設定することで、各サブアレイユニットから前方に放射 される電波同士を重畳させて、アンテナ装置から放射される電波の利得を増加させる こと力 Sできる。すなわち、アンテナ装置からの電波の利得を、サブアレイユニットの数 に対応させて増加させることができる。
請求項 10の発明は、請求項 9に記載のアンテナ装置において、前段のサブアレイ ユニットと後段のサブアレイユニットとの所定間隔を、使用周波数における自由空間 波長のほぼ 2分の 1に設定し、後段のサブアレイユニットの第 1パッチアンテナ素子に 対する給電と、前段のサブアレイユニットの第 1パッチアンテナ素子に対する給電とに
、ほぼ 180° の位相差を設けた構成とする。

かかる構成により、給電素子である 1対のパッチアンテナ素子にそれぞれ給電する と、所定周波数の電磁波が、それぞれのパッチアンテナ素子の二枚の電極から放射 される。このとき、他方のパッチアンテナ素子からの電磁波の位相や振幅を適宜設定 することで、他方のパッチアンテナ素子から放射される電磁波を一方のパッチアンテ ナ素子から他方のパッチアンテナ素子に向力、う電磁波と干渉させることができる。す なわち、他方のパッチアンテナ素子から放射される電磁波の位相や振幅を適宜設定 することで、一方のパッチアンテナ素子から正面方向に放射する電磁波の利得を高 くすること力 Sできると共に、背面方向に存する電磁波を減衰させて、 F/B比を高める こと力 Sでさる。

また、各パッチアンテナ素子に給電すると、所定周波数の電波が、パッチアンテナ 素子から放射される。したがって、この発明のアンテナ装置では、このような複数のパ ツチアンテナ素子が、前段のパッチアンテナ素子の第 2電極と後段のパッチアンテナ 素子の第 1電極とが対向するように、所定間隔で 1列に配列されているので、パッチ アンテナ素子同士の間隔と各パッチアンテナ素子の位相を適宜設定することで、各 ノ ツチアンテナ素子から放射される電波同士を重畳させて、アンテナ装置から放射さ れる電波の利得を増加させることができる。すなわち、アンテナ装置からの電波の利 得を、パッチアンテナ素子の数に対応させて増加させることができる。

かかる構成により、切換スィッチを切り換えて、一方のパッチアンテナ素子と給電部 とを接続した状態にすると、この一方のパッチアンテナ素子が給電素子となり、他方 のパッチアンテナ素子が無給電素子となる。この結果、所定周波数の電磁波が、一 方のパッチアンテナ素子から放射される。そして、他方のパッチアンテナ素子と電磁 結合して、他方のパッチアンテナ素子が当該所定周波数で共振する。このとき、他方 のパッチアンテナ素子の給電線のリアクタンス値や 1対のパッチアンテナ素子の間隔 を適宜設定することで、他方のパッチアンテナ素子から放射される電磁波を一方の ノ ツチアンテナ素子から他方のパッチアンテナ素子に向力、う電磁波と干渉させること 力できる。具体的には、給電線の長さを適宜設定して、他方のパッチアンテナ素子か ら放射される電磁波の位相や振幅を変えると共に、 1対のパッチアンテナ素子の間隔 を波長に対応させて設定することで、一方のパッチアンテナ素子から正面方向に放 射する電磁波の利得を高くすることができると共に、後方に存する電磁波を減衰させ て、 F/B比を高めることができる。すなわち、かかる状態では、一方のパッチアンテ ナ素子の正面方向に高利得の電磁波が放射される。ここで、切換スィッチを再度切り
換えて、他方のパッチアンテナ素子と給電部とを接続した状態にすると、この他方の パッチアンテナ素子が給電素子となり、一方のパッチアンテナ素子が無給電素子と なる。この結果、高利得の電磁波が他方のパッチアンテナ素子の背面方向から放射 されることとなる。すなわち、アンテナ装置の正面方向から放射されていた電磁波力 切換スィッチの切り換えによって、背面方向に放射されるように変化する。

力、かる構成により、給電素子である中間のパッチアンテナ素子に給電すると、所定 周波数の電磁波が、パッチアンテナ素子から放射される。そして、このパッチアンテ ナ素子から両側に放射された電磁波が、両側のパッチアンテナ素子と電磁結合して 、両側のパッチアンテナ素子が当該所定周波数で共振する。このとき、パッチアンテ ナ素子の間隔を適宜設定すると共に、可変リアクタンス回路を用いてリアクタンス値を 変化させて、無給電素子である両側のパッチアンテナ素子の一方を容量性にし、他 方を誘導性にすると、誘導性のパッチアンテナ素子があた力、も反射器のごとく機能す る。これにより、中間のパッチアンテナ素子から誘導性のパッチアンテナ素子側に放 射された電磁波は、誘導性のパッチアンテナ素子で反射されたがごとく戻り、容量性 のパッチアンテナ素子側に放射された電磁波と干渉して増幅する。この結果、高利 得且つ高 F/Bの電磁波が中間のパッチアンテナ素子から容量性のパッチアンテナ 素子の方向に放射される。また、可変リアクタンス回路を用いてリアクタンス値を変化 させて、両側のパッチアンテナ素子の容量性及び誘導性を逆にすると、中間のパッ チアンテナ素子から放射される電磁波の方向も逆になる。

[0031] 以上詳しく説明したように、請求項 1の発明に係るパッチアンテナ装置によれば、第 1及び第 2の電極の幅が長さの 4分の 1以下に設定され、誘電体基体の幅が第 1及び 第 2の電極の幅に等しく設定されて!/、るので、パッチアンテナ装置全体の小型化を図 ること力 Sできる。しかも、誘電体基体の厚さが当該幅の 1倍以上に設定されて、電磁 波の利得の低下が抑えられているので、十分な利得を確保することができる。すなわ ち、この発明によれば、所望の利得を確保しつつ装置の小型化を図ることができると いう優れた効果がある。したがって、その体積サイズを、従来のパッチアンテナ装置 の約 1/2のサイズまでに小型化しても、同等の利得を得ることができる。
特に、請求項 2の発明によれば、第 1及び第 2の電極のいずれかの両端部を、折り 曲げて、誘電体基体の両端面に配設したので、パッチアンテナ装置をより一層、小型 ィ匕すること力 Sでさる。
また、請求項 3の発明によれば、第 2の電極の長さを、第 1の電極の長さよりも長く設 定したので、パッチアンテナ装置の小型化を保持しつつ、正面方向への利得を効果 的に高めることができる。
[0032] 請求項 4の発明に係るアンテナ装置によれば、それぞれ誘電体基体に電極を設け て形成した 1対のパッチアンテナ素子によってアンテナ装置を構成し、力、かる構成に よって、正面方向に放射する電磁波の利得や F/B比を高めることができるので、正 面方向への十分な利得や F/B比を確保しつつ小型化を図ることができるアンテナ 装置を提供することができるという優れた効果がある。
また、請求項 6の発明によれば、更なる小型化と高利得 ·高 F/B比化とを図ったァ ンテナ装置を提供することができる。
特に、請求項 7の発明によれば、パッチアンテナ素子自体を大きくすることなぐ無 給電素子側のリアクタンス値を大きくすることができるので、アンテナ装置のさらなる 小型化が可能となる。

特に、請求項 10及び請求項 17の発明によれば、アンテナ装置からの電波の利得 を、確実に増加させることができるとレ、う効果がある。
また、請求項 11の発明によれば、各サブアレイユニットの第 2パッチアンテナ素子 自体を大きくすることなく、第 2パッチアンテナ素子のリアクタンス値を大きくすることが できるので、アンテナ装置のさらなる小型化が可能となる。

実施例 1

の横断面図であり、図 4は、図 1のパッチアンテナ装置の展開図である。 図 1に示すように、この実施例のパッチアンテナ装置 1は、誘電体基体 2と第 1の電 極 3と第 2の電極 4とを備えて!/、る。

すなわち、この実施例のパッチアンテナ装置 1は、細長い直方体状に形成されてお り、従来型の正方形のパッチアンテナ装置よりも、小型に形成されている。
[0043] 以下、このパッチアンテナ装置 1の小型化の設定方法について、説明する。
図 5は、従来型のパッチアンテナ装置を示す斜視図であり、図 6は、従来型のパッ
チアンテナ装置とその電流分布を模式的に示す正面図である。
図 5に示すように、従来のパッチアンテナ装置 1' では、正方形状の第 1の電極 3' が誘電体基体^ の正面に配されると共に、第 2の電極 が誘電体基体^ の裏 面に配された構成を成しており、所定周波数の電力を給電部 100から第 1の電極 3 ' に給電することで、所定の共振周波数の電磁波を正面側に放射するようになって いる。
しかし、このようなパッチアンテナ装置 1' では、例えば、第 1の電極 3' の幅 W及 び長さ Lが共に同一の長さに設定され、占有面積が大きい。し力、も、図 6に示すように 、第 1の電極 3' の励振時における電流力 第 1の電極 3' の側辺 3' a側寄りの Iで 示す領域に集中する。すなわち、破線で示すように、電流は、第 1の電極; T の中央 部; T b側にはあまり流れないため、第 1の電極; T の中央部; T bが励振に寄与せ ずに遊んだ状態になっている。
そこで、発明者は、この遊びの部分をなくして、パッチアンテナ装置の小型化を図る ベぐ考察を行った。
図 7は、電極の幅と誘電体基体の厚みとの関係を説明するための斜視図である。 図 7の(a)に示すように、第 1の電極 3' と第 2の電極 4' との幅 Wを狭くして、図 6に 示す電流の余り流れない領域; T bをなくすことで、パッチアンテナ装置;^ の小型化 を図ること力 Sでさる。
しかし、このパッチアンテナ装置 1' では、第 2の電極 の幅 Wも狭くするため、第 1の電極; T に分布する電流 Iも小さくなり、正面方向への利得が低下してしまう。そこ で、図 7の(b)に示すように、第 1の電極 3' の幅 Wに対応させて、誘電体基体 2' の 厚さ Tを厚くすることにより、第 1の電極; T に分布する電流 Iを大きくすることができ、 この結果、正面方向への利得を高くすることが考えられる。
しかしながら、小型にするために、電極 3' , 4' の幅 Wを余り小さくすると、利得を 得るために、誘電体基体^ の厚さ Tを厚くしなければならず、結局、パッチアンテナ 装置 が厚さ方向に大型化してしまう。力、といって、誘電体基体^ の厚さ Tをあま り厚くしないようにすると、電極^ , 4' の幅 Wを大きくしなければならず、結局、パッ チアンテナ装置;^ が幅方向に大型化してしまう。
そこで、発明者は、第 1の電極^ の幅 Wや誘電体基体^ の厚さ Tをどのような範 囲に設定すると、その体積が、従来型のパッチアンテナ装置よりも小さぐし力、も利得 が従来型の利得以上になるかを、次のようなシミュレーションを用いて考察した。 図 8は、パッチアンテナ装置の幅及び厚さと利得との関係を示す線図であり、図 9は 、パッチアンテナ装置の幅及び厚さと効率との関係を示す線図である。
発明者は、パッチアンテナ装置 1の誘電体基体 2として、比誘電率が 6. 4、誘電損 失(tan δ )が 0. 002の誘電体を用い、その長さ Lを 80mmに設定した。すなわち、第 1及び第 2の電極 3, 4及び誘電体基体 2の長さ Lが 80mmのパッチアンテナ装置 1を 用い、周波数 910MHzの電力を給電した。そして、パッチアンテナ装置 1の幅 W (第 1及び第 2の電極 3, 4及び誘電体基体 2の幅)と厚さ T (誘電体基体 2の厚さ)を変え ながら、パッチアンテナ装置 1の各利得をシミュレーションしたところ、図 8の利得曲線 G1〜G4で示すような結果を得た。ここで、利得曲線 Gl , G2, G3, G4は、 ldBi, 2 dBi, 3dBi, 3. 5dBiの各利得における幅 Wと厚さ Tとの関係を示し、領 は、従来 型のパッチアンテナ装置が採っている幅 W及び厚さ Τの範囲を示し、領域 Ηは、この 実施例のパッチアンテナ装置が採る幅 W及び厚さ Τの範囲を示す。
図 8の領 で示すように、従来型のパッチアンテナ装置では、 3dBiの利得を得よう とすると、幅 Wが約 65mm以上で厚さ Tが約 8mm程度必要があり、その体積は、最 低でも約 41. 6ccになる。これに対して、領域 Hで示すように、幅 Wを長さ 80mmの 4 分の 1以下で、厚さ Tを幅 W以上に設定したパッチアンテナ装置 1において、 3dBiの 利得を得るには、幅 Wが 20mmで厚さ Tが約 20mm程度であればよぐその体積は、 約 32cc程度でよい。すなわち、長さ 80mmのパッチアンテナ装置 1において、幅 W を長さの 4分の 1以下で、厚さ Tを幅 W以上に設定することで、同じ利得を得ながら、 その体積を従来型のパッチアンテナ装置の体積に対して約 25パーセント以上も削減 すること力 Sでさることを確言忍した。
次に、発明者は、上記と同様の比誘電率,誘電損失及び長さを有した誘電体基体 2と第 1及び第 2の電極 3, 4とを備えたパッチアンテナ装置 1を用い、周波数 910MH zの電力を給電した。そして、幅 Wと厚さ Tを変えながら、パッチアンテナ装置 1の各 効率をシミュレーションしたところ、図 9の効率曲線 E1〜E3で示すような結果を得た。
ここで、効率曲泉 El , E2, E3は、 70%, 80%, 90%の各効率における幅 Wと厚さ T との関係を示す。
図 9の領 で示すように、従来型のパッチアンテナ装置では、 90%の効率を得よう とすると、幅 Wが約 70mm以上で厚さ Tが約 10mm程度必要があり、その体積は、最 低でも約 56ccになる。これに対して、領域 Hで示すように、幅 Wを長さ 80mmの 4分 の 1以下で、厚さ Tを幅 W以上に設定したパッチアンテナ装置 1において、 90%の効 率を得るには、幅 Wが 20mmで厚さ Tが約 25mm程度であればよぐその体積は、最 高でも約 40cc程度でよい。すなわち、長さ 80mmのパッチアンテナ装置 1において、 幅 Wを長さの 4分の 1以下で、厚さ Tを幅 W以上に設定することで、同じ効率を得なが ら、その体積を従来型のパッチアンテナ装置の体積に対して約 29パーセント以上も 肖 IJ減すること力でさることを確言忍した。
発明者は、このようなシミュレーションの結果を踏まえて考察した結果、パッチアンテ ナ装置 1の厚さ Tを、幅 Wの 1倍以上に設定し、幅 Wを、長さ Lの 4分の 1以下に設定 することで、 3dBi利得及び 90%効率という従来型のパッチアンテナ装置と同じ利得 及び効率で、従来型のパッチアンテナ装置よりも小型にすることができると!/、う結論に 達した。
そこで、この実施例では、上記したように、パッチアンテナ装置 1の誘電体基体 2の 厚さ Tを第 1及び第 2の電極 3, 4の幅 Wの 1倍以上に設定し、第 1及び第 2の電極 3, 4の幅 Wを、第 1及び第 2の電極 3, 4の長さ Lの 4分の 1以下に設定した。
次に、この実施例のパッチアンテナ装置 1が示す作用及び効果について説明する 図 10は、この実施例のパッチアンテナ装置 1が示す作用及び効果を説明するため の断面図である。
図 10に示すように、所定周波数の電力 W0を給電部 100から同軸ケーブル 120を 通じて第 1の電極 3に給電すると、第 1の電極 3が放射電極として機能し、また、接地 された同軸ケーブル 120の外部導体 122に接続された第 2の電極 4が、グランド電極 として機能する。この結果、第 1の電極 3で励振された所定周波数の電磁波 Vが、正 面側(図 10の左側)に放射されることとなる。
このとき、第 1及び第 2の電極 3, 4の幅 Wがそれぞれその長さ Lの 4分の 1以下に設 定され、しかも、誘電体基体 2の正面 2a及び背面 2bの幅もこれら第 1及び第 2の電極 3, 4の幅 Wに等しく設定されているので、パッチアンテナ装置 1全体の小型化は図ら れている。したがって、電子部品が高密度実装され、アンテナ実装領域が狭い RFID のハンディターミナルやその他の送受信機においても、このパッチアンテナ装置 1は 容易に実装することができる。しかも、誘電体基体 2の厚さ Tが第 1及び第 2の電極 3, 4の幅 Wの 1倍以上に設定されているので、第 1の電極 3から放射される電磁波 Vの 利得の低下がない。このため、十分な利得の電磁波 Vが、パッチアンテナ装置 1の正 面方向に放射される。
このように、この実施例のパッチアンテナ装置 1によれば、小型でありながら、正面 方向への高レヽ禾 IJ得を得ること力できる。
実施例 2
[0046] 次に、この発明の第 2実施例について説明する。
図 11は、この発明の第 2実施例に係るパッチアンテナ装置を示す斜視図である。 この実施例は、第 1及び第 2の電極 3, 4の長さが異なる点が、上記第 1実施例と異 なる。
図 11に示すように、この実施例のパッチアンテナ装置 1' ' では、第 2の電極 4の 長さを第 1の電極 3の長さ(L)よりも長く設定した。具体的には、第 1の電極 3の長さ L 及び幅 Wは、上記第 1実施例と同様であるが、第 2の電極 4の長さを第 1実施例の場 合よりも、長く設定し、第 2の電極 4の長さを誘電体基体 2の背面 2bの長さ Lよりも長い 長さ(L + L2 X 2)にした。そして、第 2の電極 4の両端部 41 , 42を折り曲げて、誘電 体基体 2の両端面 2e, 2fに配設した。
[0047] かかる構成により、本来、第 2の電極 4の長さ(L + L2 X 2)分の長さを有する誘電体 基体を必要とするところを、従前の長さ Lの誘電体基体 2で済むので、折り曲げ部 41 , 42の長さ(L2 X 2)分だけ、パッチアンテナ装置自体を小型化することができる。 また、グランド電極として機能する第 2の電極 4の長さを長くすることで、第 1の電極 3 から背面側(第 2の電極 4側)に向力、う電磁波を低減させることができる。これにより、 ノ ツチアンテナ装置の小型化を保持しつつ、 F/B比を高め、その結果、正面方向(
第 1の電極 3の左方向)への利得を高めることができる。
[0048] ところで、この実施例のように、第 1及び第 2の電極 3, 4の長さを有するパッチアン テナ装置 ' を設計する場合、給電部 100側の負荷 (例えば 50 Ω )との整合を図 る必要がある。特定の周波数において、負荷と整合可能な第 1及び第 2の電極 3, 4 の長さは、いろいろあり、負荷と整合する第 2の電極 4の長さが決まれば、第 1の電極 3の長さも第 2の電極 4の長さに対応して決まる。そして、特定の周波数で、負荷と整 合する第 2の電極 4の長さは、誘電体基体 2の背面 2bの長さだけでなぐ両端面 2e, 2f及び正面 2aの長さにも至る。
しかしながら、ノ ツチアンテナ装置;^ ' の利得や F/B比及び帯域といった放射 特性は、第 2の電極 4の長さによって異なる。したがって、これら利得や F/B比及び 帯域等を考慮して、最適なパッチアンテナ装置 ' を設計する必要がある。
[0049] そこで、発明者は、長さが異なる第 1及び第 2の電極 3, 4を、比誘電率が 6. 4、誘 電損失が 0. 002、長さ L,幅 W及び厚さ Tがそれぞれ 80mm, 10mm, 30mmの誘 電体基体 2に形成した。そして、周波数 910MHzの電力を、このパッチアンテナ装置 ' に給電し、第 2の電極 4の長さを変えながら、パッチアンテナ装置 1' ' の利得 , F/B比及び帯域とをシミュレーションした。
図 12は、第 2の電極 4の長さの変化の態様を示す斜視図であり、図 13は、第 2の電 極 4の長さと利得, F/B比及び帯域との相関関係を示す線図である。
図 12の(a) , (b) , (c) , (d)及び(e)は、折り曲げ部 41 , 42の長さを含む第 2の電 極 4の全長: L + L2 X 2をそれぞれ、 101mm, 108mm, 114mm, 130mm及び 140 mmに設定したときのパッチアンテナ装置 1' ' を示している。力、かるパッチアンテナ 装置;^ ' において、特定の周波数で負荷との整合を図るため、折り曲げ部 31 , 32 を含む第 1の電極 3の全長 L + L1 X 2は、第 2の電極 4が長くなるに従って、短くなる ように設定する。
シミュレーションは、図 12の(a)〜(e)に示す第 2の電極 4の各長さを有するパッチ アンテナ装置 1' ' と、第 2の電極 4の全長力 S l04mm, 1 13mm, 116mm, 120m mのパッチアンテナ装置 1' ' との各装置について、周波数 910MHzの電力を供給 し、第 2の電極 4の各長さにおける利得, F/B比及び帯域を測定した。
すると、図 13の利得曲線 SIで示すように、第 2の電極 4の全長が 108mm付近の時 に、利得が最大となった。また、 F/B比曲線 S2で示すように、 F/B比は、第 2の電 極 4の全長が 114mm〜; 130mmのあたりで、大きくなつている。そして、帯域曲線 S3 で示すように、帯域は、第 2の電極 4の全長が長くなるに従って広がっていった。しか し、帯域に関しては、第 2の電極 4を長くする程広がるが、それに反して、利得や F/ B比が低下し、また、 50 Ω負荷との整合も得にくくなるので、第 2の電極 4の長さを 14 Omm以上に設定する利点はほとんどな!/、。
以上のシミュレーションの結果から、比誘電率が 6. 4、誘電損失が 0. 002、長さ L, 幅 W及び厚さ Tがそれぞれ 80mm, 10mm, 30mmの誘電体基体 2を使用する場合 には、第 2の電極 4の長さを 108mm〜; 130mm以内(図 12の(b)〜(d)の態様)に設 定することが、利得, F/B比及び帯域の面から好ましいといえる。
その他の構成、作用及び効果は、上記第 1実施例と同様であるので、その記載は 省略する。
実施例 3

電極 3A側に設定しており、この方向への電磁波の利得を高めるベぐパッチアンテ ナ素子 1Bを、パッチアンテナ素子 1Aの電磁波の放射方向の逆側、すなわち、パッ チアンテナ素子 1Aの図 14の右側に間隔 Dだけ離して配置した。
そして、パッチアンテナ素子 1A, 1Bの間隔 Dを、 UHF帯の使用周波数における自 由空間波長の 0. 12倍以上 0. 30倍以下に設定した。

図 18は、この実施例のアンテナ装置 200が示す作用及び効果を説明するための 概略側面図である。
図 18に示すように、所定周波数の信号を給電部 100から同軸ケーブル 120を介し てパッチアンテナ素子 1Aに給電すると、パッチアンテナ素子 1Aが励振し、実線で示 すように、所定周波数の電磁波 V2が、パッチアンテナ素子 1Aの電極 3A, 4A力、らパ ツチアンテナ素子 1Aの正面側と背面側とに放射される。
そして、電極 4A側から放射された電磁波 V2が、パッチアンテナ素子 1Bと電磁結 合して、ノ ツチアンテナ素子 1Bが当該所定の周波数で共振し、破線で示すように、 電磁波 V3を電極 3B, 4Bからパッチアンテナ素子 1Bの正面側と背面側に放射する 。この電磁波 V3の位相や振幅は、パッチアンテナ素子 1Bのリアクタンス回路 5のリア クタンス値とパッチアンテナ素子 1A, 1Bの素子間隔 Dとを適宜設定することで、調整 すること力 Sでさる。
したがって、パッチアンテナ素子 1Bの電磁波 V3の位相や振幅を適宜調整すること で、パッチアンテナ素子 1Bの背面側に向力、う電磁波 V3とパッチアンテナ素子 1Aか らの電磁波 V2とを干渉させて、抑圧すること力 Sできる。そして、パッチアンテナ素子 1 Bの正面側に向力、う電磁波 V3とパッチアンテナ素子 1Aの正面側に放射される電磁 波 V2とを干渉させることで、強め合わせること力 Sできる。
これにより、アンテナ装置 200の正面方向(図 18の左方向)の電磁波の利得を高め ること力 Sできると共に、アンテナ装置 200の正面方向の電磁波の利得と背面方向の 電磁波の利得の比である F/B比をも高めることができる。
[0056] 発明者は、かかる効果を確認すベぐつぎのような実験を行った。
図 19は、素子間隔 Dと利得との相関図であり、図 20は、素子間隔 Dと F/B比との
相関図である。
この実験では、誘電体基体 2A, 2Bの比誘電率が 6. 4で、幅 W,長さ L及び厚さ T 力 Sl 5mm, 80mm及び 15mmのパッチアンテナ素子 1A, 1Bを構成し、周波数 920 MHzの信号を給電部 100からパッチアンテナ素子 1Aに給電した。そして、パッチァ ンテナ素子 1A, 1Bの素子間隔 Dを変化させて、各素子間隔 Dでの利得と F/B比と を解析したところ、図 19及び図 20に示す曲線 S4で示す結果を得た。
なお、この実験における素子間隔 Dは、使用周波数 920MHzにおける波長の倍数 を示している。
図 19の曲線 S4から明らかなように、このアンテナ装置 200では、素子間隔 Dを波長 の 0. 12倍〜 0. 30倍に設定することで、約 5dB以上の利得を得ることが確認された また、 F/B比においても、図 20の曲線 S4で示すように、素子間隔 Dを波長の 0. 1 2倍〜 0. 30倍に設定することで、約 7. 5dB以上を得ることができた。
次に、誘電体基体 2A, 2Bの比誘電率を変えて、パッチアンテナ素子 1A, 1Bを小 型にした。
具体的には、誘電体基体 2A, 2Bの比誘電率を 3Aに設定し、パッチアンテナ素子 1A, 1Bの幅 W,長さ L及び厚さ Tを 15mm, 55mm及び 10mmに設定して、上記と 同様の実験を行ったところ、図 19の曲線 S5で示すように、素子間隔 Dが波長の 0. 1 2倍〜 0. 30倍の範囲で、約 4dB以上の利得を得ることができると共に、図 20の曲線 S 5で示すように、約 6dB以上の F/B比を得ることができた。
さらに、誘電体基体 2A, 2Bの比誘電率を 38に上げ、パッチアンテナ素子 1A, 1B の幅 W,長さ L及び厚さ Tを 10mm, 40mm及び 15mmに設定して、上記と同様の実 験を行ったところ、図 19の曲線 S6で示すように、素子間隔 Dが波長の 0. 12倍〜0. 30倍の範囲で、約 3dB以上の利得を得ることができると共に、図 20の曲線 S6で示 すように、約 5dB以上の F/B比を得ることができた。
すなわち、この実施例のアンテナ装置 200によれば、パッチアンテナ素子 1A, 1B の素子間隔 Dを使用周波数における波長の 0. 12倍〜 0. 30倍の範囲に設定するこ とで、長さが 40mmという超小型のパッチアンテナ素子 1A, 1Bを用いても、約 3dB
以上の利得と約 5dB以上の F/B比を得ることが確認された。
[0058] 次に、発明者は、パッチアンテナ素子 1Bのリアクタンス回路 5のリアクタンス値とアン テナ装置 200の利得との関係及びリアクタンス値と F/B比との関係を、素子間隔 D を波長の 0. 15倍〜0. 24倍の範囲で変化させながら確認した。

この実験では、誘電体基体 2A, 2Bの比誘電率が 6. 4で、幅 W,長さ L及び厚さ T 力 Sl 5mm, 80mm及び 15mmのパッチアンテナ素子 1A, 1Bを構成し、周波数 920 MHzの信号を給電部 100からパッチアンテナ素子 1Aに給電した。そして、パッチァ ンテナ素子 1Bのリアクタンス回路 5のリアクタンス値を変化させながら、各素子間隔 D における利得と F/B比とを解析した。
すると、図 21及び図 22の曲面 Sg, Sfbで示す結果を得た。
図 21の曲面 Sgから明らかなように、リアクタンス回路 5のリアクタンス値を概ね j l . 0 Ω付近の値に設定すると、 6dB以上の利得を得ることができる。通常、同じサイズの 単体のパッチアンテナ素子を用いた場合には、 3〜4dB程度が限度であるのに対し て、この実施例のアンテナ装置 200では、同じ大きさで 2〜3dB程度高い利得を得る こと力 Sでさる。
また、図 22の曲面 Sfbから明らかなように、リアクタンス回路 5のリアクタンスィ直を概 ね j l . 0 Ω付近の値に設定すると、 10dB以上の F/B比を得ることができる。しカゝも、 リアクタンス回路 5のリアクタンス値と素子間隔 Dとを最適値に設定することで、 20dB 以上の F/Bi:匕を得ること力 Sできる。

リアクタンス回路 5としては、多種の回路を適用することができる。例えば、単品のィ ンダクタや単品のコンデンサ、インダクタとコンデンサとの直列共振回路や並列共振 回路、又はこれらの共振回路にインダクタやコンデンサを直列に接続した回路、さら に、コンデンサの代わりにバラクダ等の容量可変素子を使用した回路等を適用するこ と力 Sできる。
この実施例では、リアクタンス回路 5として、インダクタを適用した。
具体的には、図 26に示すように、第 2パッチアンテナ素子 1Bの第 1及び第 2電極 3 B, 4Bの延出部 51 , 52を誘電体基体 2Bの側面 2Bdに形成して、インダクタ部品 5の 両端を延出部 51 , 52に接続した。なお、インダクタは、チップ部品状のインダクタ部 品 5だけでなぐ電極で形成することもできる。例えば、図 27に示すように、ミアンダ状 で且つ適切な長さの電極^ を、誘電体基体 2Bの側面 2Bdにパターン形成し、この 電極の両端を第 1及び第 2電極 3B, 4Bに接続しても良い。これにより、部品点数の 削減を図ることができる。

図 30は、パッチアンテナ素子の素子数と利得との相関図である。
このシミュレーションでは、誘電体基体 2A, 2Bの比誘電率が 6. 4で、幅 W,長さし 及び厚さ T (図 24参照)が 15mm, 80mm及び 15mmのパッチアンテナ素子を構成 し、周波数 920MHzの電力をパッチアンテナ素子に給電した。そして、パッチアンテ ナ素子の素子数を変化させて、各素子数での利得を解析したところ、図 30に示す結
果を得た。
なお、このシミュレーションにおいて、素子数「1」の場合の利得は、無給電素子であ る第 2パッチアンテナ素子 1Bを伴わない第 1パッチアンテナ素子 1Aのみをシミュレ ーシヨンしたときの利得を示し、素子数「2」は、各サブアレイユニットを構成する第 1及 び第 2パッチアンテナ素子 1A, 1Bをシミュレーションしたときの利得を示し、素子数「 4」は、第 1及び第 2パッチアンテナ素子 1A, 1Bで構成される 2つのサブアレイュニッ トを 1列に配列して、シミュレーションしたときの利得を示し、素子数「8」は、 4つのサ ブアレイユニットを 1列に配列して、シミュレーションしたときの利得を示す。
図 30から明らかなように、ノ ツチアンテナ素子の素子数が 2倍になると、利得も概ね 3dBiだけ高くなる。
したがって、この実施例のアンテナ装置 201のように、 n数のサブアレイユニット 210 一;!〜 210— nを用いることで、その利得をサブアレイユニットの数 nに対応させて増 カロさせること力 Sでさることを確言忍した。

なお、この実施例では、上記分配比や位相差を有した分配器 6を選択して使用した 力 これら分配比、位相差を可変可能な分配器を用いれば、分配器 6を交換すること なぐ利得や F/B比を向上させることができるだけでなぐアンテナ装置 202の指向 性を任意に変化させることができる。
[0081] 発明者は、上記のような作用及び効果を奏するために最適な位相差と振幅比とを 確認すベぐつぎのようなシミュレーションを行った。
図 34は、位相差及び振幅比と利得との相関図であり、図 35は、位相差及び振幅比 と F/B比との相関図である。
このシミュレーションでは、誘電体基体 2A, 2A' の比誘電率が 6. 4で、幅 W、長さ L及び厚さ Tが 15mm、 80mm及び 15mmのパッチアンテナ素子 1A, lAf を構成 して、 60mmの素子間隔 Dで配列し、周波数 900MHzの電力を給電部 100力もパッ チアンテナ素子 1A, 1A' に給電した。そして、パッチアンテナ素子 1A' の電力 W2 に対するパッチアンテナ素子 1Aの電力 W1の位相差を変化させながら、各振幅比に おける利得と F/B比とを解析した。
その結果を図 34及び図 35の曲面 Sg、 Sfbで示す。
ここで、位相差については、曲面 Sg, Sfbで示すように、約 60度〜 120度の範囲内
に位相差を設定すると、 6dB以上の利得及び F/B比とを得ることができる。通常、こ の実施例のアンテナ装置 202におけるパッチアンテナ素子とほぼ同じサイズの単体 のパッチアンテナ素子を用いた場合には、利得で 3〜4dB程度であるのに対して、こ の実施例のアンテナ装置 202では、同じサイズで 2db程度高い利得を得ることができ また、図 34の曲面 Sgに示すように、上記位相差の範囲内では、パッチアンテナ素 子 1A, lAf 力もの電波の振幅に差がない場合でも(図 34及び図 35の「振幅比 OdB 」)、 5db以上の高い利得を得ることができる。し力、し、図 35の曲面 Sfbで示すように、 パッチアンテナ素子 1 Aの電波の振幅をパッチアンテナ素子 1A' の電波の振幅より も 2dB〜6dBだけ高く設定することで、アンテナ装置 202の正面方向の利得を高くす ること力 Sでさるだ'けでなく、 F/Bi:匕あ極めて大さくすること力 Sでさる。

図 39に示す結果から明らかなように、この実施例のアンテナ装置 203においても、 n数のパッチアンテナ素子 1A—;!〜 1Α—ηを用いることで、パッチアンテナ素子の数 nに対応した利得の増加が確認された。

これにより、パッチアンテナ素子 1Aが給電素子として機能して、励振する。この結 果、実線で示す電波 V2が、パッチアンテナ素子 1 Aの電極 3A, 4Aからパッチアンテ ナ素子 1Aの正面側と背面側とに放射される。
一方、パッチアンテナ素子 は、かかる状態において、無給電素子として機能 し、パッチアンテナ素子 1 Aからの電波 V2に共振する。この結果、破線で示す電波 V 3が、パッチアンテナ素子 1A' の電極 3A' , 4A' からパッチアンテナ素子 1A' の 正面側と背面側とに放射される。
このとき、パッチアンテナ素子 1A' 力も引き出されている同軸ケーブル 120' の長 さを調整し、同軸ケーブル 120' を含むパッチアンテナ素子 1A' の付加リアクタン ス値を設定しておくと、ノ ツチアンテナ素子 1Aとパッチアンテナ素子 1A' が正面方 向(図 42の左方向)で同相となるように共振して、アンテナ装置 204の正面方向の利 得が高くなる。また、パッチアンテナ素子 1A' の背面側(図 42の右側)に向かう電波 V3は抑圧され、アンテナ装置 204の F/B比が大きくなる。
すなわち、パッチアンテナ素子 1A' が反射器として機能し、アンテナ装置 204の 左方向の電波の利得や F/B比を高める。この結果、図 43に示すように、アンテナ装 置 204の指向性が左方向に偏る。
そして、切換スィッチ 6を切り換え、図 42の破線で示すように、切換スィッチ 6の可動 接点 61を固定接点 63に接触させると、給電部 100からの信号が切換スィッチ 6を介 してパッチアンテナ素子 1A' に給電され、パッチアンテナ素子 1A' が給電素子とし て機能して、励振する。
この結果、破線で示す電波 V3が、パッチアンテナ素子 1A' からその正面側と背 面側とに放射される。そして、パッチアンテナ素子 1Aは、力、かる状態において、無給 電素子として機能し、パッチアンテナ素子 1A' からの電波 V3で共振し、実線で示す 電波 V2が、パッチアンテナ素子 1Aの電極 3A, 4Aから正面側と背面側とに放射さ れる。
このとき、上記と同様に、パッチアンテナ素子 1Aから引き出されている同軸ケープ ノレ 120の長さを調整し、パッチアンテナ素子 1Aの付加リアクタンスを調整しておくと、

実施例 8

可変リアクタンス回路 5として、周知の可変リアクタンス回路の全てを採用することが できる力 この実施例では、可変リアクタンス回路 5を可変容量ダイオードを用いて形 成した。具体的には、可変容量ダイオード 53とインダクタ 54とを直列に接続し、可変 容量ダイオード 53の力ソード側を導線 140に接続すると共にインダクタ 54の一端を 導線 141に接続した。
これにより、可変容量ダイオード 53の力ソード側に印加する直流電圧 Vccの大きさ を変え、可変容量ダイオード 53の容量値を変化させることで、可変リアクタンス回路 5 全体のリアクタンス値を調整することができる。
なお、この可変リアクタンス回路 5も周知の可変リアクタンス回路と同様に、リアクタン ス値を誘導性の範囲から容量性の範囲まで変化させることができる。

具体的には、図 50に示すように、可変リアクタンス回路 5' ' を、切換スィッチ 55と リアクタンス値が異なる複数の固定リアクタンス回路 56〜59とで構成した。
これにより、切換スィッチ 55を切り換えることで、固定リアクタンス回路 56〜59のい ずれかとパッチアンテナ素子 IB— 1 (1B— 2)とを接続して、可変リアクタンス回路 5 ' ' のリアクタンス値を変化させることができる。
その他の構成、作用及び効果は、上記第 2実施例と同様であるので、その記載は 省略する。
[0103] なお、この発明は、上記実施例に限定されるものではなぐ発明の要旨の範囲内に ぉレ、て種々の変形や変更が可能である。
[0104] また、上記実施例では、図 1や図 11に示したように、誘電体基体 2の正面 2a全面に 形成した電極 3に対して、電極 4の全長を等しいか又は長くした例を示した。しかし、 図 51に示すように、長さ Lが誘電体基体 2の正面 2aの長さよりも短い第 1の電極 3を 正面 2a上に形成して、第 2の電極 4の全長をこの第 1の電極 3よりも相対的に長くした ノ ツチアンテナ装置も、この発明の範囲に含まれることは勿論である。
また、上記第 2実施例では、電極 4を電極 3よりも長くして、その両端部 41 , 42を誘 電体基体 2の両端面 2e, 2fに折り曲げて配置した例を示した。しかし、電極 3, 4の少 なくとも一方の長さを誘電体基体 2の正面 2a,背面 2bの長さよりも長く設定し、その 電極を両端面 2e, 2fに折り曲げて配置することもできる。したがって、電極 3を電極 4 よりも長くして、その両端部を折り曲げて誘電体基体 2の両端面 2e, 2fに配置した発 明も、この発明の範囲に含まれる。
[0105] また、上記実施例では、図 1や図 14等に示したように、誘電体基体 2 (2A, 2B)を 直方体に形成し、電極 3, 4をその正面 2a (2Aa, 2Ba) ,背面 2b (2Ab, 2Bb)全面 に形成して、パッチアンテナ装置 (パッチアンテナ素子)全体を直方体形状にした例 を示した。しかし、ノ ツチアンテナ装置 1 (パッチアンテナ素子)の幅 Wと長さ Lと厚さ T
とが所定の条件を満たし、且つその断面形状がほぼ長方形の形状であれば、パッチ アンテナ装置 1 (パッチアンテナ素子)の形状は任意である。したがって、例えば、図 52に示すように、両端面 2e, 2f (2Ae, 2Af、 2Be, 2Bf)が半円形に湾曲した形状の ノ ツチアンテナ装置 (パッチアンテナ素子)や、図 53に示すように、誘電体基体 2 (2 A, 2B)の中央部に空間 2hを有したパッチアンテナ装置 (パッチアンテナ素子)も、こ の発明の範囲内に含まれる。
[0106] 上記実施例では、図 2,図 10,図 16,図 25,図 32及び図 41に示したように、給電 素子としてのパッチアンテナ装置 1 (パッチアンテナ素子 1A)への給電構造として、 給電部 100から引き出された同軸ケーブル 120の内部導体 121をパッチアンテナ素 子 1 (1A)の誘電体基体 2 (2A)や電極 4 (4A)の孔 2g, 4a (2Ag, 4Aa)に揷通して 電極 3 (3A)に接続すると共に、外部導体 122を電極 4 (4A)に接続する構造を採用 したが、給電構造はこれに限定されるものではなレ、。
例えば、図 54に示すように、同軸ケーブル 120をパッチアンテナ装置 1 (パッチアン テナ素子 1A)の側面に接続することにより、誘電体基体 2 (2A)や電極 4 (4A)に孔を 開けることなく、給電することができる。すなわち、電極 3, 4 (3A, 4A)の延出部 33, 43を誘電体基体 2 (2A)の側面 2d (2Ad)上に形成し、同軸ケーブル 120の内部導 体 121を電極 3 (3A)の延出部 33に接続すると共に、外部導体 122を電極 4 (4A)の 延出部 43に接続することで、給電部 100からパッチアンテナ装置 1 (パッチアンテナ 素子 1A)に給電すること力 Sできる。
また、同軸ケーブル 120を用いずに電磁結合を用いて、給電部 100からパッチアン テナ装置 1 (パッチアンテナ素子 1A)に給電することもできる。
[0107] また、上記第 7実施例において説明したように、小型で且つ電極 3A, 4A(3B, 4B )がほぼ同サイズの場合には、どちらがグラウンド電極で、どちらがアンテナ電極なの 力、、明確な区別がつきにくい。そして、どちらをグラウンド電極及びアンテナ電極とし ても、アンテナ特性が大きく相違することはない。
したがって、図 55に示すようなパッチアンテナ素子 1A, 1Bの配列を有したアンテ ナ装置であっても、上記実施例のアンテナ装置と同様の作用及び効果を奏する。す なわち、図 55 (a)に示すように、パッチアンテナ素子 1Aを通常とは逆向きにしたり、
同図(b)に示すように、パッチアンテナ素子 IBを通常とは逆向きにし、また、同図(c) に示すように、パッチアンテナ素子 1A, 1Bの双方を通常と逆向きにしても、上記実 施例のアンテナ装置と同様の特性を発揮する。そして、これらの配列を有したアンテ ナ装置もこの発明の範囲内に含まれる。
また、上記第 4実施例では、図 23に示したように、リアクタンス回路 5を各サブアレイ ユニット 210— 1 (210— 2〜210— n)の第 2パッチアンテナ素子 1Bに接続した例を 示した。しかし、リアクタンス回路 5が第 2パッチアンテナ素子 1Bに接続されていない サブアレイユニット 210—;!〜 210— nで構成されるアンテナ装置を、この発明の範囲 から除外する意ではない。
Claims
[1] 正面と背面とが互いに対向し且つこれら正面及び背面に垂直な断面がほぼ長方形 状をなす誘電体基体と、当該誘電体基体の正面に形成され且つ給電部に接続され た第 1の電極と、当該誘電体基体の背面に形成された第 2の電極とを備えるパッチァ ンテナ装置であって、
上記第 1の電極の幅を、励振方向を向く当該第 1の電極の長さの 4分の 1以下に設 定すると共に、上記第 2の電極の幅を、励振方向を向く当該第 2の電極の長さの 4分 の 1以下に設定し、
上記誘電体基体の正面及び背面のそれぞれの幅を、上記第 1及び第 2の電極のそ れぞれの幅に等しく設定すると共に、当該誘電体基体の厚さを当該幅の 1倍以上に
ΒΧ Ειし こ、
ことを特徴とするパッチアンテナ装置。
[2] 上記第 1又は第 2の電極の少なくとも一方の長さを、上記誘電体基体の正面又は背 面の長さよりも長く設定し、その長さ方向の両端部を折り曲げて、当該誘電体基体の 両端面に配設した、
ことを特徴とする請求項 1に記載のパッチアンテナ装置。
[3] 上記第 2の電極の長さを、上記第 1の電極の長さよりも長く設定した、
ことを特徴とする請求項 1又は請求項 2に記載のパッチアンテナ装置。
[4] 電極を誘電体基体の少なくとも対向する概略平行な二面にそれぞれ設けて形成し た 1対のパッチアンテナ素子を、一方のパッチアンテナ素子の電極と他方のパッチァ ンテナ素子の電極とが向き合うように平行に所定間隔で配列し、
一方のパッチアンテナ素子に給電して給電素子とすると共に、他方のパッチアンテ ナ素子を無給電素子とした、
ことを特徴とするアンテナ装置。
[5] 請求項 1から請求項 3のいずれかに記載のパッチアンテナ装置を、上記パッチアン テナ素子として用いる、
ことを特徴とする請求項 4に記載のアンテナ装置。
[6] 上記無給電素子であるパッチアンテナ素子を、上記給電素子であるパッチアンテ
ナ素子の放射方向に対して逆側の位置に配した、
ことを特徴とする請求項 4又は請求項 5に記載のアンテナ装置。
[7] 上記無給電素子であるパッチアンテナ素子にリアクタンス回路を接続して終端した ことを特徴とする請求項 4から請求項 6のいずれかに記載のアンテナ装置。
[8] 上記 1対のパッチアンテナ素子の上記間隔を、使用周波数における自由空間波長 の 0. 12倍以上 0. 30倍以下に設定した、
ことを特徴とする請求項 4から請求項 7のいずれかに記載のアンテナ装置。
[9] 請求項 4から請求項 8のいずれかに記載の 1対のパッチアンテナ素子をサブアレイ ユニットとして用い、後段のサブアレイユニットの給電素子が前段のサブアレイュニッ トの無給電素子の背後に位置するように、複数のサブアレイユニットを所定間隔で一 列に配置するアンテナ装置であって、
上記一方のパッチアンテナ素子を第 1パッチアンテナ素子とすると共に、上記他方 のパッチアンテナ素子を第 2パッチアンテナ素子とし、且つ各パッチアンテナ素子に おける一方の電極を第 1電極とすると共に、他方の電極を第 2電極とし、
前段のサブアレイユニットの第 2パッチアンテナ素子の第 2電極と後段のサブアレイ ユニットの第 1パッチアンテナ素子の第 1電極とが対向するように、上記複数のサブァ レイユニットを所定間隔で 1列に配列した、
ことを特徴とするアンテナ装置。
[10] 前段のサブアレイュュットと後段のサブアレイュュットとの上記所定間隔を、使用周 波数における自由空間波長のほぼ 2分の 1に設定し、
後段のサブアレイユニットの第 1パッチアンテナ素子に対する給電と、前段のサブァ レイユニットの第 1パッチアンテナ素子に対する給電とに、ほぼ 180° の位相差を設 けた、
ことを特徴とする請求項 9に記載のアンテナ装置。
[11] 上記各サブアレイユニットの第 2パッチアンテナ素子にリアクタンス回路を接続した ことを特徴とする請求項 9又は請求項 10に記載のアンテナ装置。
[12] 電極を誘電体基体の少なくとも対向する概略平行な二面にそれぞれ設けて形成し た 1対のパッチアンテナ素子を、一方のパッチアンテナ素子の電極と他方のパッチァ ンテナ素子の電極とが向き合うように平行に所定間隔で配列し、
これら 1対のパッチアンテナ素子に給電してそれぞれ給電素子とした、
ことを特徴とするアンテナ装置。
[13] 請求項 1から請求項 3のいずれかに記載のパッチアンテナ装置を、上記パッチアン テナ素子として用いる、
ことを特徴とする請求項 12に記載のアンテナ装置。
[14] 上記一方のパッチアンテナ素子に給電する信号と他方のパッチアンテナ素子に給 電する信号との位相差を、 60度以上 120度以下に設定した、
ことを特徴とする請求項 12又は請求項 13に記載のアンテナ装置。
[15] 上記一方のパッチアンテナ素子からの放射電波の振幅を、他方のパッチアンテナ 素子からの放射電波の振幅よりも 2dB以上 6dB以下の値だけ高くなるように設定した ことを特徴とする請求項 12から請求項 14のいずれかに記載のアンテナ装置。
[16] 後段のパッチアンテナ素子が前段のパッチアンテナ素子の背後に位置するように、 複数のパッチアンテナ素子を所定間隔で 1列に配列すると共に、各パッチアンテナ 素子にそれぞれ給電するアンテナ装置であって、
上記各パッチアンテナ素子を、第 1及び第 2電極を誘電体基体の前面及び後面に それぞれ設けて形成し、
前段のパッチアンテナ素子の第 2電極と後段のパッチアンテナ素子の第 1電極とが 対向するように、複数の上記パッチアンテナ素子を所定間隔で 1列に配列した、 ことを特徴とするアンテナ装置。
[17] 前段のパッチアンテナ素子と後段のパッチアンテナ素子との上記所定間隔を、使 用周波数における自由空間波長のほぼ 4分の 1に設定し、
後段のパッチアンテナ素子に対する給電と、前段のパッチアンテナ素子に対する 給電とに、ほぼ 90° の位相差を設けた、
ことを特徴とする請求項 16に記載のアンテナ装置。
[18] 請求項 1から請求項 3のいずれかに記載のパッチアンテナ装置を、上記パッチアン テナ素子として用いる、
ことを特徴とする請求項 16又は請求項 17に記載のアンテナ装置。
[19] 電極を誘電体基体の少なくとも対向する概略平行な二面にそれぞれ設けて形成し た 1対のパッチアンテナ素子を、一方のパッチアンテナ素子の電極と他方のパッチァ ンテナ素子の電極とが向き合うように平行に所定間隔で配列し、
これら 1対のパッチアンテナ素子からそれぞれ引き出された 1対の給電線を切換ス イッチを通じて給電部に接続した、
ことを特徴とするアンテナ装置。
[20] 電極を誘電体基体の少なくとも対向する概略平行な二面にそれぞれ設けて形成し た 3つのパッチアンテナ素子を、隣り合うパッチアンテナ素子の電極同士が向き合うよ うに平行に所定間隔で配列し、
中間のパッチアンテナ素子に給電して給電素子とすると共に、他のパッチアンテナ 素子に可変リアクタンス回路を接続して無給電素子とした、
ことを特徴とするアンテナ装置。
[21] 請求項 1から請求項 3のいずれかに記載のパッチアンテナ装置を、上記パッチアン テナ素子として用いる、
ことを特徴とする請求項 19又は請求項 20に記載のアンテナ装置。
[22] 上記可変リアクタンス回路を、可変容量ダイオードを用いて形成した、
ことを特徴とする請求項 20又は請求項 21に記載のアンテナ装置。
[23] 上記可変リアクタンス回路は、リアクタンスィ直が異なる複数の固定リアクタンス回路を スィッチで切り換える構成である、
ことを特徴とする請求項 20又は請求項 21に記載のアンテナ装置。
