Abstract

 高画質の半透過型及び反射型の液晶表示装置を製造効率よく提供する。  本発明による液晶表示装置は、液晶を挟むように配置された第1基板及び第2基板と、第1基板に形成された、液晶の配向を制御する電圧を印加するための第1電極及び第2電極と、第1電極に電気的に接続された電極を有するトランジスタと、第1基板に形成された、凸部、凹部、又は開口を有する金属層と、第1基板における金属層の上に形成された、入射光を表示面に向けて反射させる反射層とを備えた液晶表示装置であって、金属層は、トランジスタのゲート電極と同じ材料によって形成されており、反射層は、金属層の凸部、凹部、又は開口に応じて形成された凸部、凹部、又は段差を有する。
