Abstract

 ハーフミラーによる光量の半減に起因するSN比の低下をなくし、高解像度、高フレームレートかつSN比が高い動画像を生成可能な画像処理装置および方法を提供する。画像処理装置は、第1および第2動画像に基づいて多色動画像を生成する。第1動画像は、第1フレームレートで、第1色成分の複数の画像を有する。第2動画像は、第1フレームレートよりも高い第2フレームレートで、第1色成分と異なる第2色成分の複数の画像を有しており、かつ、その解像度は、第1動画像の解像度以下である。画像処理装置は、第1および第2動画像のデータに基づいて、第1動画像を構成する画像を変化させた合成画像を生成し、第1動画像および合成画像を利用して、第1フレームレートより高いフレームレートで、第1動画像に対応する合成動画像を出力する第1の画像合成部と、合成動画像および第2動画像を受け取って合成し、第1色成分および第2色成分を含む多色動画像を生成する第2の画像合成部とを備えている。
