본 발명에 따른 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치는, 제 1 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 1 액정물질을 포함하는 제 1 액정 패널, 제 2 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 2 액정물질과 제 3 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 3 액정물질을 포함하되, 제 2 및 제 3 액정물질을 서로 구분되게 배치시킨 제 2 액정 패널 및 상기 제 2 액정 패널의 하부에 결합된 광 흡수층을 포함하되, 상기 제 2 액정 패널은 상기 제 1 액정 패널의 하부에 결합된 것이고, 상기 제 1 내지 제 3 액정 물질은 플래나 상태일 때 광을 반사시키고, 포컬 코닉 상태일 때 광을 통과시킨다.

Description

반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치 및 그 제조방법
본 발명은 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치 및 그 제조 방법에 관한 것으로, 보다 상세하게는 컬러 표시가 가능한 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치 및 제조 방법에 관한 것이다.
콜레스테릭 액정 디스플레이 장치는 전계의 인가 상태에 따라, 외부 빛을 반사시키는 플래나 상태(planar texture)와 외부 빛을 흡수하는 포컬 코닉 상태(focal conic texture) 중 어느 하나의 상태를 갖게 된다. 또한, 특정 상태에서 전계가 유지되지 않더라도 해당 상태를 유지할 수 있어, 쌍안정성(bistability)을 가진다. 이와 같은 쌍안정성에 기반하여, 콜레스테릭 액정 디스플레이 장치는 전자 종이(e-paper) 디스플레이로서 활용되고 있다.
이러한 콜레스테릭 액정 디스플레이 장치는 액정 층에 포함된 분자의 피치와 입사되는 빛의 파장에 따라 색상을 표시할 수 있다. 콜레스테릭 액정 디스플레이 장치에서의 색상 표시를 위해, 각각 서로 다른 색상을 표시하는 3개 또는 4개의 액정층을 적층(stack) 시키는 구조를 사용하는 선행문헌(US 6,654,080,"Stacked color liquid crystal display device")이 알려져 있다. 또한, 동일 평면상에 R, G, B 패턴을 형성하여 컬러를 표시하는 선행문헌(US7,864,285, "Color cholesteric liquid crystal display device comprising a unitary structures having a plurality of stripe wall structures, a straight seal line, and a solid bulk region made of a same material")도 알려져 있다.
첫 번째 문헌에 기술된 방법은 적층된 각각의 층이 빛을 반사하므로, 두 번째 문헌에 기술된 방법에 비하여 빛의 반사율의 높다는 장점이 있다. 그러나, 이를 구동하기 위하여 다수의 전극과 구동 IC가 필요하다는 단점이 있다. 또한, 3개 이상의 액정 패널을 각각 제조한 후 이를 각 화소에 맞게 정렬하여 적층해야 하기 때문에 제조 공정이 복잡하다는 단점이 있다. 두 번째 문헌에 기술된 방법은 동일 평면에서 3가지 색상을 표시하므로, 각 색상에 할당되는 면적이 좁아져 반사율 및 개구율이 감소되는 문제점이 있다.
본원 발명은 이러한 문제점을 해소하여 컬러 표시 성능을 개선할 수 있는 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치를 제공하고자 한다.
본 발명은 전술한 종래 기술의 문제점을 해결하기 위한 것으로서, 단순한 구조를 통해 색상을 표시할 수 있는 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치를 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
또한, 상기의 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치의 제조 방법을 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
상술한 기술적 과제를 달성하기 위한 기술적 수단으로서, 본 발명의 제 1 측면에 따른 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치는, 제 1 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 1 액정물질을 포함하는 제 1 액정 패널, 제 2 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 2 액정물질과 제 3 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 3 액정물질을 포함하되, 제 2 및 제 3 액정물질을 서로 구분되게 배치시킨 제 2 액정 패널 및 상기 제 2 액정 패널의 하부에 결합된 광 흡수층을 포함하되, 상기 제 2 액정 패널은 상기 제 1 액정 패널의 하부에 결합된 것이고, 상기 제 1 내지 제 3 액정 물질은 플래나 상태일 때 광을 반사시키고, 포컬 코닉 상태일 때 광을 통과시킨다.
또한, 본 발명의 제 2 측면에 따른 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치는, 제 1 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 1 액정물질을 포함하는 제 1 액정 패널, 제 2 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 2 액정물질과 제 3 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 3 액정물질을 포함하되, 제 2 및 제 3 액정물질을 서로 구분되게 배치시킨 제 2 액정 패널 및 상기 제 1 액정 패널의 하부에 결합된 광 흡수층을 포함하되, 상기 제 1 액정 패널은 상기 제 2 액정 패널의 하부에 결합된 것이고, 상기 제 1 내지 제 3 액정 물질은 플래나 상태일 때 광을 반사시키고, 포컬 코닉 상태일 때 광을 통과시킨다.
또한, 본 발명의 제 3 측면에 따른 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치의 제조 방법은, 제 1 액정 패널에 제 1 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 1 액정물질을 주입하는 단계, 복수의 격벽에 의하여 공간이 구분된 제 2 액정 패널에 제 2 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 2 액정물질과 제 3 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 3 액정물질을 주입하는 단계 및 상기 제 1 액정 패널의 하부에 상기 제 2 액정 패널을 결합시키는 단계를 포함한다.
또한, 본 발명의 제 4 측면에 따른 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치의 제조 방법은, 복수의 격벽에 의하여 공간이 구분된 제 1 액정 패널에 제 1 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 1 액정물질과 제 2 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 2 액정물질을 주입하는 단계, 제 2 액정 패널에 제 3 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 3 액정물질을 주입하는 단계 및 상기 제 1 액정 패널의 하부에 상기 제 2 액정 패널을 결합시키는 단계를 포함한다.
전술한 본 발명의 과제 해결 수단에 의하면, 컬러 표시가 가능하면서도 단순한 구조를 갖는 반사형 액정 표시장치를 제공할 수 있다. 특히, 2개의 액정 패널만을 결합시키는 단순한 구조를 가지므로, 제조 공정을 단순화시킬 수 있다. 또한, 적층되는 층의 개수를 감소시킴으로써 전체 구조물의 안정성을 향상시킬 수 있다. 또한, 동일 평면에 3가지 색상을 표시하는 기술과 비교할 때, 각각의 색상에 할당되는 셀의 면적을 넓게 할 수 있으므로 반사율 및 개구율이 향상되는 효과가 있다.

아래에서는 첨부한 도면을 참조하여 본 발명이 속하는 기술 분야에서 통상의 지식을 가진 자가 용이하게 실시할 수 있도록 본 발명의 실시예를 상세히 설명한다. 그러나 본 발명은 여러 가지 상이한 형태로 구현될 수 있으며 여기에서 설명하는 실시예에 한정되지 않는다. 그리고 도면에서 본 발명을 명확하게 설명하기 위해서 설명과 관계없는 부분은 생략하였으며, 명세서 전체를 통하여 유사한 부분에 대해서는 유사한 도면 부호를 붙였다.
명세서 전체에서, 어떤 부분이 다른 부분과 "연결"되어 있다고 할 때, 이는 "직접적으로 연결"되어 있는 경우뿐 아니라, 그 중간에 다른 소자를 사이에 두고 "전기적으로 연결"되어 있는 경우도 포함한다. 또한 어떤 부분이 어떤 구성요소를 "포함"한다고 할 때, 이는 특별히 반대되는 기재가 없는 한 다른 구성요소를 제외하는 것이 아니라 다른 구성요소를 더 포함할 수 있는 것을 의미한다.
도 1은 본원 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 반사형 액정 디스플레이 구조를 도시한 단면도이다.
도시된 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치(10)는 제 1 색상의 광을 반사시키는 액정물질(118)을 포함하는 제 1 액정 패널(110), 제 2 색상의 광을 반사시키는 액정물질(160)과 제 3 색상의 광을 반사시키는 액정물질(162)을 포함하는 제 2 액정 패널(150), 제 1 액정 패널(110)과 제 2 액정 패널(150)을 결합시키는 접착층(130) 및 제 2 액정 패널(150)의 하부에 결합되어 광을 흡수하는 광 흡수층(170)을 포함한다.
제 1 액정 패널(110)은 상부 기판(112), 하부 기판(122), 상부 기판(112)에 결합된 상부 전극(114), 하부 기판(122)에 결합된 하부 전극(120), 각 전극 사이에 충진된 액정 물질(118), 액정 물질을 밀봉시키는 격벽(116)을 포함한다.
액정 물질(118)은 상부 전극(114) 및 하부 전극(120)에 의하여 인가되는 전계에 따라 플래나 상태 또는 포컬 코닉 상태를 갖게 된다.
*접착층(130)은 제 1 액정 패널(110)과 제 2 액정 패널(150)을 결합시킨다. 이때, 접착층(130)은 빛이 투과할 수 있도록, OCA(Optical Clear Adhesive)와 같은 투명 소재로 이루어질 수 있다.
제 2 액정 패널(150)은 상부 기판(152), 하부 기판(166), 상부 기판(152)에 결합된 상부 전극(154), 하부 기판(166)에 결합된 하부 전극(164), 각 전극 사이에 충진된 액정 물질(160, 162), 액정 물질을 밀봉시키는 격벽(156) 및 액정 물질을 분리시키는 격벽(158)을 포함한다.
이때, 제 1 액정 패널(110)과 제 2액정 패널(150)에 포함되는 각 기판과 각 전극은 빛이 투과할 수 있도록 투명 소재로 형성된다.
또한, 상부 전극과 하부 전극은 어레이 형태로 구성된다.
도 2는 본원 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 액정 패널에 포함되는 전극의 구조를 도시한 도면이다.
도시된 바와 같이, 상부 전극(210)과 하부 전극(220)은 복수의 구분된 전극 라인을 포함한다. 그리고, 상부 전극(210)과 하부 전극(220)은 소정 거리 이상으로 이격되고, 서로 대향하도록 배치된다. 또한, 상부 전극(210)이 연장되는 방향과 하부 전극(220)이 연장되는 방향은 서로 교차되도록 한다.
이러한 전극 구조는 제 1 액정 패널(110) 과 제 2 액정 패널(150)에 공통적으로 사용될 수 있다.
다시 도 1을 참조하면, 액정 물질(160)과 액정 물질(162)은 입사된 광에 대하여 서로 다른 색상의 광을 반사시킨다. 또한, 각 액정 물질(160, 162)은 상부 전극(114) 및 하부 전극(120)에 의하여 인가되는 전계에 따라 플래나 상태 또는 포컬 코닉 상태를 갖게 된다.
광 흡수층(170)은 제 1 액정 패널(110) 및 제 2 액정 패널(150)을 통과한 빛을 흡수한다. 광 흡수층(170)이 빛을 흡수함에 따라 검은색이 표시된다.
이와 같은 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치의 컬러 표시는 다음과 같은 방법에 따라 구현된다.
예를 들어, 제 1 액정물질(118)이 녹색(Green)을 반사시키고, 제 2 액정물질(160)이 청색(Blue)을 반사시키고, 제 3 액정물질(162)이 적색(Red)를 반사시키는 물질이라고 가정한다.
먼저, 녹색을 표시시키고자 하는 경우에는, 해당 화소의 제 1 액정물질(118)은 플래나 상태를 갖도록 하는 전계를 인가하고, 제 2 액정물질(160) 및 제 3 액정물질(162)은 포컬 코닉 상태를 갖도록 하는 전계를 인가한다. 이렇게 하면, 입사된 가시광선 중 녹색을 표시시키는 파장의 빛만 외부로 반사되고, 나머지 파장의 빛은 광 흡수층(170)으로 흡수된다.
마찬가지로, 청색을 표시시키고자 하는 경우에는, 제 2 액정물질(160)은 플래나 상태를 갖도록 하는 전계를 인가하고, 나머지 액정 물질은 포컬 코닉 상태를 갖도록 하는 전계를 인가한다. 적색을 표시시키고자 하는 경우에는, 제 3 액정물질(162)은 플래나 상태를 갖도록 하는 전계를 인가하고, 나머지 액정 물질은 포컬 코닉 상태를 갖도록 하는 전계를 인가한다. 백색을 표시시키고자 하는 경우에는 전체 액정 물질이 플래나 상태를 갖도록 하고, 흑색을 표시시키고자 하는 경우에는 전체 액정 물질이 포컬 코닉 상태를 갖도록 한다.
또한, 제 1 액정 물질(118) 및 제 2 액정 물질(160)이 플래나 상태를 갖도록 하거나, 제 1 액정 물질(118) 및 제 3 액정 물질(162)이 플래나 상태를 갖도록 하여, 양 액정 물질에 의하여 반사된 광이 외부에 표시되도록 할 수 있다.
또한, 제 1 액정 물질(118)은 포컬 코닉 상태를 갖도록 하고, 제 2 액정 물질(160) 및 제 3 액정 물질(162)이 플래나 상태를 갖도록 하여, 양 액정 물질에 의하여 반사된 광이 외부에 표시되도록 할 수 있다.
이와 같은 구조에 따르면, 동일 평면상에 3개의 액정물질을 배치시켜 표시하는 경우에 비하여 개구율 및 반사율을 향상시킬 수 있다. 이는, 제한된 면적 내에서 3 종류의 액정 물질을 배치하는 경우에 비하여, 적층 구조로 배치하는 경우 각 액정 물질이 차지하는 면적이 더욱 넓어지기 때문이다. 특히, 특정 액정 물질이 차지 하는 면적은 다른 액정 물질이 차지하는 면적의 2배가 되므로, 해당 액정 물질이 반사시키는 색상과 관련한 개구율 및 반사율 특성은 더욱 향상될 수 있다.
도 3은 본원 발명의 다른 실시예에 따른 반사형 액정 디스플레이 구조를 도시한 단면도이다.
본 실시예는 도 1의 실시예에서의 액정 패널의 상하 위치를 변경한 것이다.
즉, 도 3에 도시된 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치(30)는 제 1 색상의 광을 반사시키는 액정물질(320)과 제 2 색상의 광을 반사시키는 액정물질(322)을 포함하는 제 1 액정패널(310)과 제 3 색상의 광을 반사시키는 액정물질(358)을 포함하는 제 2 액정 패널(350), 제 1 액정 패널(310)과 제 2 액정 패널(350)을 결합시키는 접착층(330) 및 제 2 액정 패널(350)의 하부에 결합되어 광을 흡수하는 광 흡수층(370)을 포함한다.
제 1 액정 패널(310)의 구성은 도 1에 도시된 제 2 액정 패널(150)의 구성에 대응하며, 제 2 액정 패널(350)의 구성은 도 1에 도시된 제 1 액정 패널(110)의 구성에 대응하므로, 상세 구성에 대한 설명은 생략한다.
도 4는 본원 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치의 제조 방법을 도시한 도면이다.
먼저, 제 1 액정 패널(110)에 제 1 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 1 액정물질(118)을 주입한다(S410). 이때, 제 1 액정 패널(110)은 상부 기판(112), 하부 기판(122), 상부 기판(112)에 결합된 상부 전극(114), 하부 기판(122)에 결합된 하부 전극(120)을 포함한다.
예를 들어, 상부 기판(112)에 상부 전극(114)을 적층하는 공정, 하부 기판(122)에 하부 전극(120)을 적층하는 공정, 상기 전극이 형성된 기판 중 어느 하나에 격벽(116)을 형성시키는 공정, 상부 기판(112)과 하부 기판(122)과의 사이를 결합시키는 공정 등을 먼저 수행할 수 있다. 또한, 액정물질의 주입을 위하여 제 1 액정패널(110)을 주입하기 위한 주입구를 제외한 나머지 간격은 밀봉부재(sealant) 등을 통해 밀봉시킨 후, 액정물질(118)의 주입 후에 주입구를 밀봉시키는 공정을 추가적으로 진행한다.
다음으로, 제 2 액정 패널(150)에 제 2 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 2 액정물질(160) 및 제3 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 3액정물질(162)을 주입한다(S420). 이때, 제 2 액정 패널(150)은 상부 기판(152), 하부 기판(166), 상부 기판(152)에 결합된 상부 전극(154), 하부 기판(166)에 결합된 하부 전극(164), 제 2 액정물질(160)과 제 3 액정물질(162)을 구분시키는 격벽(158)을 포함한다.
예를 들어, 상부 기판(152)에 상부 전극(154)을 적층하는 공정, 하부 기판(166)에 하부 전극(164)을 적층하는 공정, 상기 전극이 형성된 기판 중 어느 하나에 격벽(158)을 형성시키는 공정, 상부 기판(152)과 하부 기판(166)과의 사이를 결합시키는 공정 등을 먼저 수행할 수 있다. 이때, 각 액정물질(160, 162)을 주입하기 위한 주입구는 개방시킨 상태에서, 액정물질(160, 162)의 주입 후에 개방된 주입구를 밀봉시키는 공정을 추가적으로 진행한다. 이때, 서로 다른 두 가지 액정 물질을 주입하는 구체적인 방법에 대해서는 추후 설명하기로 한다.
다음으로, 제 1 액정 패널(110)과 제 2 액정 패널(150)을 결합한다(S430). 이때, 각 패널(110, 150)을 결합시키는 접착층(130)은 빛이 투과할 수 있도록, OCA와 같은 투명 소재를 이용한다.
이때, 제 2 액정 패널(150)의 하부에 광 흡수층(170)을 결합하는 공정을 추가할 수 있다. 또는, 제 1 액정 패널(110)과 제 2 액정 패널(150)의 결합 공정 전에, 제 2 액정 패널(150)에 광 흡수층(170)을 결합하는 공정을 수행할 수 있다.
도시된 제조 방법은 도 1의 실시예에 관한 것으로, 도 3의 실시예에 대해서도 적용가능하다.
한편, 서로 다른 2가지 액정 물질이 주입되는 액정 패널(150, 310)의 주입 공정을 개선하기 위하여 다음과 같은 공정을 수행할 수 있다.
도 5a 내지 도 5c는 본원 발명의 일 실시예에 따른 액정 패널에 대한 액정 주입 방법을 도시한 도면이다.
제 2 액정 패널(500)은 각각의 액정 물질이 주입될 공간(510, 512)을 포함하며, 각 공간(510, 512)은 격벽(514)에 의하여 구분된다.
먼저, 도 5a에 도시된 바와 같이 제 2 액정 물질을 공간(510)의 주입구(516)에 주입한다. 이때, 공간(510)의 길이는 공간(512)의 길이보다 길도록 격벽(514)을 형성한 상태이므로, 제 2 액정 물질이 공간(510)에만 주입될 수 있다.
다음으로, 도 5b에 도시된 바와 같이, 밀봉부재(518)를 이용하여 각 주입구(516)를 밀봉하여, 제 2 액정 물질이 밀봉되도록 한다. 그리고, 제 2 액정 패널의 일부를 절삭하여 제 3 액정 물질이 주입될 공간(512)의 주입구(520)를 개방한다. 이때, 절삭 공정에 따라 밀봉부재(518)가 함께 절삭될 수 있다.
다음으로, 도 5c에 도시된 바와 같이, 밀봉부재(522)를 이용하여 제 3 액정 물질이 주입된 공간(512)의 주입구(520)를 밀봉하여, 제 3 액정 물질이 밀봉되도록 한다. 이와 같은 공정에 따라, 서로 다른 색상의 액정 물질을 주입할 수 있다.
도 6a 및 도 6b는 본원 발명의 다른 실시예에 따른 액정 패널에 대한 액정 주입 방법을 도시한 도면이다.
도 5에 도시된 실시예의 경우, 각 액정 물질의 주입되는 주입구가 액정 패널의 동일 측면에 위치하여, 절삭 공정을 추가적으로 수행해야 한다. 이를 해소하기 위하여, 본 실시예에서는 액정 물질이 주입되는 주입구를 서로 마주 보도록 배치하여 공정을 간소화한다.
도시된 제 2 액정 패널(600)은 각각의 액정 물질이 주입될 공간(610, 612)을 포함하며, 각 공간(610, 612)은 격벽(614)에 의하여 구분된다. 이때, 공간(610)의 주입구(616)는 제 2 액정 패널(600)의 일측면에 배치시키고, 공간(612)의 주입구(618)는 제 2 액정 패널(600)의 타측면에 배치시켜, 서로 마주보도록 한다. 이와 같은 구성에 따라, 공간(610)의 주입구(616)와 공간(612)의 주입구(618)가 서로 인접하지 않도록 배치될 수 있다.
이에 따라, 도 6b에 도시된 바와 같이, 각 액정 물질에 대한 주입 공정 후에 별도의 절삭 공정 없이, 밀봉부재(620, 622)를 이용한 밀봉 공정을 곧바로 수행할 수 있다. 즉, 공간(610)에 대한 액정 물질 주입 후 밀봉부재(620)를 이용한 밀봉 공정을 수행하고, 공간(612)에 대한 액정 물질 주입 후 밀봉부재(622)를 이용한 밀봉 공정을 수행할 수 있다. 이때, 각 공간에 대한 액정 주입 공정을 동시에 수행하거나, 각 공간에 대한 밀봉 공정을 동시에 수행할 수 있다.
이와 같이, 액정 패널에 대하여 서로 다른 색상을 표시시키는 액정 물질을 각각 주입할 수 있다.
전술한 본 발명의 설명은 예시를 위한 것이며, 본 발명이 속하는 기술분야의 통상의 지식을 가진 자는 본 발명의 기술적 사상이나 필수적인 특징을 변경하지 않고서 다른 구체적인 형태로 쉽게 변형이 가능하다는 것을 이해할 수 있을 것이다. 그러므로 이상에서 기술한 실시예들은 모든 면에서 예시적인 것이며 한정적이 아닌 것으로 이해해야만 한다. 예를 들어, 단일형으로 설명되어 있는 각 구성 요소는 분산되어 실시될 수도 있으며, 마찬가지로 분산된 것으로 설명되어 있는 구성 요소들도 결합된 형태로 실시될 수 있다.
본 발명의 범위는 상기 상세한 설명보다는 후술하는 특허청구범위에 의하여 나타내어지며, 특허청구범위의 의미 및 범위 그리고 그 균등 개념으로부터 도출되는 모든 변경 또는 변형된 형태가 본 발명의 범위에 포함되는 것으로 해석되어야 한다.

Claims (18)

  1. 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치에 있어서,
    제 1 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 1 액정물질을 포함하는 제 1 액정 패널,
    제 2 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 2 액정물질과 제 3 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 3 액정물질을 포함하되, 제 2 및 제 3 액정물질을 서로 구분되게 배치시킨 제 2 액정 패널 및
    상기 제 2 액정 패널의 하부에 결합된 광 흡수층을 포함하되,
    상기 제 2 액정 패널은 상기 제 1 액정 패널의 하부에 결합된 것이고,
    상기 제 1 내지 제 3 액정 물질은 플래나(planar) 상태일 때 광을 반사시키고, 포컬 코닉(focal conic) 상태일 때 광을 통과시키는 것인 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치.
  2. 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치에 있어서,
    제 1 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 1 액정물질을 포함하는 제 1 액정 패널,
    제 2 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 2 액정물질과 제 3 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 3 액정물질을 포함하되, 제 2 및 제 3 액정물질을 서로 구분되게 배치시킨 제 2 액정 패널 및
    상기 제 1 액정 패널의 하부에 결합된 광 흡수층을 포함하되,
    상기 제 1 액정 패널은 상기 제 2 액정 패널의 하부에 결합된 것이고,
    상기 제 1 내지 제 3 액정 물질은 플래나(planar) 상태일 때 광을 반사시키고, 포컬 코닉(focal conic) 상태일 때 광을 통과시키는 것인 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치.
  3. 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,
    상기 제 1액정 패널은,
    제 1 기판,
    상기 제 1 기판의 하부에 결합되고, 서로 대향하도록 배치된 제 1 전극 및 제 2 전극 및
    상기 제 2 전극의 하부에 결합된 제 2 기판을 포함하되
    상기 기판과 전극은 각각 투명하고,
    상기 제 1 전극과 제 2 전극 사이에 상기 제 1 액정물질이 충진된 것인
    반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치.
  4. 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,
    상기 제 2 액정 패널은,
    제 1 기판,
    상기 제 1 기판의 하부에 결합되고, 서로 대향하도록 배치된 제 1 전극 및 제 2 전극,
    상기 제 1 전극과 제 2 전극 사이에 배치되고, 상기 제2 및 제3 액정물질을 분리시키는 하나 이상의 격벽 및
    상기 제 2 전극의 하부에 결합된 제 2 기판을 포함하되,
    상기 기판 및 전극은 각각 투명하고,
    상기 격벽에 의하여 분리된 공간들 중 서로 인접한 공간에는 서로 상이한 색상의 광을 반사시키는 액정물질이 충진된 것인 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치.
  5. 제 3 항에 있어서,
    상기 제 1 전극과 제 2 전극에 인가되는 전압에 따라, 상기 액정물질이 플래나 상태 또는 포컬 코닉 상태로 전환되는 것인 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치.
  6. 제 4 항에 있어서,
    상기 제 1 전극과 제 2 전극에 인가되는 전압에 따라, 상기 액정물질이 플래나 상태 또는 포컬 코닉 상태로 전환되는 것인 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치.
  7. 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,
    상기 제 1 색상 내지 제 3 색상은 R(Red), G(Green) 및 B(Blue) 중 어느 하나이되, 각각의 색상은 서로 상이한 것인 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치.
  8. 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,
    상기 제 1 색상 내지 제 3 색상은 C(Cyan), M(Magenta) 및 Y(Yellow) 중 어느 하나이되, 각각의 색상은 서로 상이한 것인 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치.
  9. 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,
    상기 제 1 액정 물질 내지 제 3 액정 물질은 콜레스테릭(Cholesteric) 액정 물질인 것인 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치.
  10. 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치의 제조 방법에 있어서,
    (a) 제 1 액정 패널에 제 1 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 1 액정물질을 주입하는 단계,
    (b) 복수의 격벽에 의하여 공간이 구분된 제 2 액정 패널에 제 2 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 2 액정물질과 제 3 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 3 액정물질을 주입하는 단계 및
    (c) 상기 제 1 액정 패널의 하부에 상기 제 2 액정 패널을 결합시키는 단계
    를 포함하는 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치의 제조 방법.
  11. 제 10 항에 있어서,
    상기 제 2 액정 패널의 하부에 광 흡수층을 결합시키는 단계
    를 더 포함하는 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치의 제조 방법.
  12. 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치의 제조 방법에 있어서,
    (a) 제 1 액정 패널에 제 1 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 1 액정물질을 주입하는 단계,
    (b) 복수의 격벽에 의하여 공간이 구분된 제 2 액정 패널에 제 2 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 2 액정물질과 제 3 색상의 광을 반사시키는 제 3 액정물질을 주입하는 단계 및
    (c) 상기 제 1 액정 패널의 상부에 상기 제 2 액정 패널을 결합시키는 단계
    를 포함하는 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치의 제조 방법.
  13. 제 12 항에 있어서,
    상기 제 1 액정 패널의 하부에 광 흡수층을 결합시키는 단계
    를 더 포함하는 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치의 제조 방법.
  14. 제 10 항 또는 제 12 항에 있어서,
    상기 (b) 단계는,
    (b1) 상기 제 2 액정 패널의 격벽에 의하여 구분된 제 1 공간의 주입구에 상기 제 2 액정물질을 주입하는 단계,
    (b2) 상기 제 1 공간의 주입구를 실링하는 단계,
    (b3) 상기 제 2 액정 패널의 격벽에 의하여 구분된 제 2 공간의 주입구에 상기 제 3 액정물질을 주입하는 단계 및
    (b4) 상기 제 2 공간의 주입구를 실링하는 단계를 포함하되,
    상기 제 1 공간과 제 2 공간은 상기 격벽을 기준으로 서로 인접한 상태로 나란하게 연장되고,
    상기 제 1 공간의 주입구는 상기 제 2 액정 패널의 일측면에 위치하고, 상기 제 2 공간의 주입구 상기 제 2 액정 패널의 일측면과 마주보는 타측면에 위치한 것인 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치의 제조 방법.
  15. 제 10 항 또는 제 12 항에 있어서,
    상기 (b) 단계는,
    (b1) 상기 제 2 액정 패널의 격벽에 의하여 구분된 제 1 공간의 주입구에 상기 제 2 액정물질을 주입하는 단계,
    (b2) 상기 제 1 공간의 주입구를 실링하는 단계,
    (b3) 상기 제 2 액정 패널의 일부를 절삭하여 상기 제 2 공간의 주입구를 개방하는 단계,
    (b4) 상기 개방된 제 2 공간의 주입구에 상기 제 3 액정물질을 주입하는 단계 및
    (b5) 상기 제 2 공간의 주입구를 실링하는 단계를 포함하되,
    상기 제 1 공간과 제 2 공간은 상기 격벽을 기준으로 서로 인접한 상태로 나란하게 연장되고,
    상기 (b3) 단계는 상기 제 1 공간의 실링 영역의 일부를 절삭하는 것인 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치의 제조 방법.
  16. 제 10 항 또는 제 12 항에 있어서,
    상기 제 1 색상 내지 제 3 색상은 R(Red), G(Green) 및 B(Blue) 중 어느 하나이되, 각각의 색상은 서로 상이한 것인 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치의 제조 방법.
  17. 제 10 항 또는 제 12 항에 있어서,
    상기 제 1 색상 내지 제 3 색상은 C(Cyan), M(Magenta) 및 Y(Yellow) 중 어느 하나이되, 각각의 색상은 서로 상이한 것인 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치의 제조 방법.
  18. 제 10 항 또는 제 12 항에 있어서,
    상기 제 1 액정 물질 내지 제 3 액정 물질은 콜레스테릭(Cholesteric) 액정 물질인 것인 반사형 액정 디스플레이 장치의 제조 방법.
