Description

ベアリングビーム
 この発明は、内燃エンジンのクランクシャフトを支持するベアリングビームに関する。
 JP3939788Bは、内燃エンジンのクランクシャフトを支持するベアリングキャップを、アルミニウム製のビームに鋳込んだベアリングビームを開示する。このベアリングビームによれば、ベアリングキャップの倒れを抑制するとともにシリンダーブロックの曲げやねじれを防止できる。
 しかしながら、JP3939788Bのベアリングビームは、内燃エンジンの実動中にジャーナル受け部が徐々に変形し、次第にフリクションが増大して焼き付く可能性があることが発明者らによって知見された。
 本発明は、このような従来の問題点に着目してなされた。本発明の目的は、ジャーナル受け部が変形しにくいベアリングビームを提供することである。
 本発明によるベアリングビームのひとつの実施形態は、金属製のベアリングキャップを、ベアリングキャップよりも熱収縮率が大きな金属で鋳込んで形成される。そして、ベアリングキャップには、一対のボルト孔が形成されており、ベアリングキャップの底部のうち、前記ボルト孔の中心同士を結ぶラインに位置する領域は、ボルト座面と同じ高さ又はボルト座面よりも突出して形成され、ベアリングキャップが鋳込まれた後であっても目視可能に露出する。

(参考形態)
 はじめに、本願発明の理解を容易にするために、コンベンショナルなベアリングビームに関して発明者らが見いだした課題について説明する。
 図7は、コンベンショナルなベアリングビームを示す斜視図である。
 ベアリングビーム10は、ラダー状のビーム12にベアリングキャップ11が鋳込まれて形成される。
 ベアリングキャップ11のジャーナル受け部11aは、正面から見たときに半円状に凹であり、不図示のシリンダーブロックの下端の一部とともに、クランクシャフトを支持する主軸受を構成する。ベアリングキャップ11は、金属製であり、たとえば鉄製又は鉄合金製である。このようなベアリングキャップ11が、ラダー状のビーム12に鋳込まれてベアリングビーム10が形成される。ビーム12は、ベアリングキャップ11よりも熱収縮率が大きな金属製であり、たとえばアルミニウム製又はアルミニウム合金製である。
 図8A及び図8Bは、コンベンショナルなベアリングビームに生じる課題について説明する図である。
 コンベンショナルなベアリングビーム10に用いられるベアリングキャップ11は、底部11bが、ジャーナル受け部11aの半円状の窪みと同軸円形状であった。
 このようなベアリングキャップ11の周囲にアルミニウム合金の溶湯を注湯することで、ベアリングキャップ11を鋳込む。注湯した溶湯が冷え固まるにつれて、内部に応力が発生して、その応力が残留する。特にベアリングキャップ11の底部11bは、ジャーナル受け部11aの半円状の窪みと同軸円形状であるので、窪んだ部分にもアルミニウム合金の溶湯が回り込む。そして溶湯の温度が冷めるときには、この部分の温度が下がりにくい。溶湯が冷え固まった後には、内部に、図8Aに矢印で示されるように中心方向に向かう応力が残留しやすい。このような残留応力は、図8Bに示されるようにベアリングキャップ11のジャーナル受け部11aを広げるように作用する。
 図9A~図9Eは、コンベンショナルなベアリングビームに生じる課題についてさらに詳しく説明する図である。なお図9A~図9Eでは、理解を容易にするために、各部の形状は大幅にデフォルメされている。
 上述のように、ベアリングビーム10は、ラダー状のビーム12にベアリングキャップ11が鋳込まれて形成される。ベアリングキャップ11は、たとえば図9Aに示されるような形状である。ベアリングキャップ11は、金属製であり、たとえば鉄製又は鉄合金製である。
 このようなベアリングキャップ11がアルミニウム合金などで鋳込まれて、ベアリングビーム10が形成される。アルミニウム合金の溶湯が冷え固まるにつれて、アルミニウム合金の内部に応力が発生して、その応力が残留する。この残留応力は、図9Bに示されるようにベアリングキャップ11のジャーナル受け部11aを広げるように作用する。
 アルミニウム合金の内部に応力が残留した状態のベアリングビーム10が、図9Cに示されるように、シリンダーブロック20の下端にベアリングキャップボルト40で締結されると、ベアリングキャップ11の上面がシリンダーブロック20にならい、広がっていたベアリングキャップ11のジャーナル受け部11aが窄まる。
 ベアリングビーム10が、シリンダーブロック20の下端にボルト止めされた状態で、ジャーナル受け部に真円加工が施され、その後、クランクシャフト30が組み付けられる。
 内燃エンジンの実動中には、図9Dに示されるようにクランクシャフト30から力が加わる。また内燃エンジンの実動中には、熱も作用する。これらの影響で、時間が経過するにつれて、アルミニウム合金が徐々に塑性変形し、残留応力が解放される。なおこのような塑性変形は、俗に「へたり」と称される。残留応力が存在した状態で真円加工されたジャーナル受け部11aは、残留応力が解放されれば、図9Eに示されるような窄んだ形状になってしまう。このようになっては、クランクシャフト30とベアリングキャップ11(ジャーナル受け部11a)とのフリクションが増大して焼き付く可能性がある。このような課題が、発明者らによって知見された。以上を踏まえて具体的な実施形態について説明する。
 (第1実施形態)
 図1Aは、本発明によるベアリングビームに用いられるベアリングキャップの第1実施形態を示す正面図である。図1Bは、本発明によるベアリングビームに用いられるベアリングキャップの第1実施形態を示す底面図である。
 この第1実施形態のベアリングキャップ11には、一対のボルト孔11cが形成されている。ベアリングキャップ11は、底部11bがフラットであり、ボルト孔11cの中心同士を結ぶラインに位置する領域は、ボルト座面11dと同じ高さである。このような形状であるので、ベアリングキャップ11がアルミニウム合金で鋳込まれても、図1Bに示されるように、底部11bは、目視可能に露出する。
 図2A及び図2Bは、第1実施形態の作用効果を説明する図である。
 この第1実施形態のベアリングキャップ11は、上述の参考形態に比較して、底部11bの窪みがない。したがって、ベアリングキャップ11の底部付近の強度(下端強度)が高い。ベアリングキャップ11の下端強度とジャーナル径変形量との間には、図2Bに示されるような相関がある。すなわち、ベアリングキャップ11の下端強度が高くなるほど、ジャーナル径変形量は小さくなる。第1実施形態のようにベアリングキャップ11の底部11bの窪みがなければ、強度が高くなり、変形しにくくなる。またベアリングキャップ11の底部11bの窪みがなければ、ベアリングキャップ11の周囲にアルミニウム合金の溶湯を注湯しても、空間がないので、溶湯が回り込まない。したがって、注湯した溶湯が冷え固まるにつれて発生する応力も小さいので、この点からも、ジャーナル受け部が変形しにくくなる。

 また、ボルト座面11dを確保するために、ベアリングキャップ11の底部は切削加工される。
 このとき、上述の参考形態のようなベアリングキャップ11では、図3Bに示されるように、パーティングライン11fは、切削ライン11eよりも上方に位置せざるを得ない。パーティングライン11fが残ったまま、ベアリングキャップ11をアルミニウム合金に鋳込んでは、突起状のパーティングラインがアルミニウム合金に食い込むこととなり、そこが亀裂の発生源になる可能性がある。そこで、パーティングラインを除去する加工が必要になる。
 これに対して本実施形態のベアリングキャップ11であれば、図3Aに示されるように、切削ライン11eよりも下方に、パーティングライン11fを設けることができる。このようにすれば、ボルト座面11dを確保するための切削加工によって、パーティングライン11fも除去できる。したがって、量産性に優れる。
 このように、本実施形態によれば、ジャーナル受け部が変形しにくいベアリングビーム10を得ることができ、したがって、クランクシャフトを組み付けて、内燃エンジンを運転し、長時間が経過しても、ジャーナル受け部の変形を小さく抑えることができる。また量産性にも優れる。またベアリングキャップ11が、たとえば鉄製又は鉄合金製であれば、製造コストと性能の両立を図ることができ、鋳込金属にアルミニウム又はアルミニウム合金を用いれば軽量化を図ることができる。
 (第2実施形態)
 図4Aは、本発明によるベアリングビームに用いられるベアリングキャップの第2実施形態を示す正面図である。図4Bは、本発明によるベアリングビームに用いられるベアリングキャップの第2実施形態を示す底面図である。
 この第2実施形態のベアリングキャップ11は、第1実施形態に比較して、底部11bの一部が凸形状である。底部11bのうち、ボルト孔11cの中心同士を結ぶラインに位置する領域は、ボルト座面11dと同じ高さ又はボルト座面11dよりも突出している。このような形状であるので、ベアリングキャップ11がアルミニウム合金で鋳込まれても、図4Bに示されるように、底部11bは、目視可能に露出する、この第2実施形態では、ベアリングキャップ11の底部付近の強度(下端強度)が、第1実施形態に比較してさらに高い。したがって、第1実施形態に比較して、さらに変形しにくくなる。

 この第3実施形態のベアリングキャップ11は、第1実施形態に比較して、底部11bのうち、ボルト孔11cの中心同士を結ぶラインに位置する領域をリブ状に残して、その領域から外れた領域が肉取りされている。底部11bのうち、ボルト孔11cの中心同士を結ぶラインに位置する領域は、ボルト座面11dと同じ高さである。このような形状であるので、ベアリングキャップ11がアルミニウム合金で鋳込まれても、図5Bに示されるように、底部11bのうち、ボルト孔11cの中心同士を結ぶラインに位置する領域は、目視可能に露出する。
 また図5Aに示されるように、ベアリングキャップ11の前後を貫通する空間11gが形成されている。
 このような実施形態によっても、上述の参考形態に比較して、ベアリングキャップの下端強度が大きくなり、変形しにくくなる。
 また本実施形態では、ベアリングキャップ11の前後を貫通する空間11gが形成されている。ベアリングキャップ11の周囲にアルミニウム合金の溶湯を注湯すると、溶湯は、この空間11gにも回り込む。したがって、ベアリングキャップ11とアルミニウム合金との密着性が向上する。
 (第4実施形態)
 図6Aは、本発明によるベアリングビームに用いられるベアリングキャップの第4実施形態を示す正面図である。図6Bは、本発明によるベアリングビームに用いられるベアリングキャップの第4実施形態を示す底面図である。
 この実施形態では、パーティングライン11fが露出するように、パーティングラインよりもジャーナル受け部に近い部分を鋳込む。このようにすれば、パーティングライン11fを除去する必要がなく、量産性に優れる。
 以上、本発明の実施形態について説明したが、上記実施形態は本発明の適用例の一部を示したに過ぎず、本発明の技術的範囲を上記実施形態の具体的構成に限定する趣旨ではない。
 たとえば、上記実施形態は、適宜組み合わせ可能である。
 本願は、2012年6月19日に日本国特許庁に出願された特願2012-138025に基づく優先権を主張し、これらの出願の全ての内容は参照によって本明細書に組み込まれる。

Claims (4)

  1.  金属製のベアリングキャップを、ベアリングキャップよりも熱収縮率が大きな金属で鋳込んで形成されるベアリングビームであって、
     前記ベアリングキャップには、一対のボルト孔が形成されており、
     ベアリングキャップの底部のうち、前記ボルト孔の中心同士を結ぶラインに位置する領域は、ボルト座面と同じ高さ又はボルト座面よりも突出して形成され、ベアリングキャップが鋳込まれた後であっても目視可能に露出する、
    ベアリングビーム。
  2.  請求項1に記載のベアリングビームにおいて、
     前記ベアリングキャップのパーティングラインは、ボルト座面の切削加工によって除去される、
    ベアリングビーム。
  3.  請求項1又は請求項2に記載のベアリングビームにおいて、
     前記ベアリングキャップは、パーティングラインよりもジャーナル受け部に近い部分が鋳込まれ、パーティングラインは鋳込まれない、
    ベアリングビーム。
  4.  請求項1から請求項3までのいずれか1項に記載のベアリングビームにおいて、
     前記ベアリングキャップは、鉄製又は鉄合金製であり、
     前記ベアリングキャップを鋳込む金属は、アルミニウム又はアルミニウム合金である、
    ベアリングビーム。
