ジシクロペンタジエンとビニル芳香族化合物とを反応させ、当該反応により得られる反応物を熱重合し、次いで水素添加する水素添加石油樹脂の製造方法であって、以下の工程(A)~(C) (A)下記式(1)(式中、Rは水素原子等である。)で示されるビニル芳香族化合物と、ジシクロペンタジエンとを、それらの反応生成物であり下記式(2){式中、Rは前記式(1)と同義である。}で示されるフェニルノルボルネン誘導体の選択率が90%以上となる条件下で反応させて、当該フェニルノルボルネン誘導体を含む反応液を得る予備反応工程、(B)前記予備反応工程(A)で得られたフェニルノルボルネン誘導体を含む反応液を、240~300℃の温度に加熱して重合させて重合反応物を得る重合工程、(C)前記重合工程(B)で得られた重合反応物を、触媒の存在下に水素添加して水素添加石油樹脂を得る水素添加工程、を含むことを特徴とする方法。

Description

水素添加石油樹脂の製造方法
 本発明は、水素添加石油樹脂の製造方法に関し、更に詳しくは、ジシクロペンタジエンとビニル芳香族化合物の熱重合反応物を水素添加して得られるジシクロペンタジエン/ビニル芳香族化合物系水素添加石油樹脂の製造方法に関する。
 ジシクロペンタジエンとビニル芳香族化合物の熱重合反応物を水素添加して得られるジシクロペンタジエン/ビニル芳香族化合物系水素添加石油樹脂は、ホットメルト接着剤等の原料(粘着付与剤)として有用である。
 熱重合反応に用いられるビニル芳香族化合物としては、得られた樹脂の色相及び粘着付与特性の点においてスチレンが好適に使用される。しかしながら、スチレンはラジカルが生成しやすく、高分子量のホモポリマーを容易に生成し、得られた樹脂が高分子量且つ多分散になるといった難点を有する。
 得られる樹脂の高分子量化及び多分散化を抑制する方法として、特許文献1には、加熱した溶媒中に、スチレンとジシクロペンタジエンを含むモノマー混合液を滴下又は分割添加して重合する方法(滴下重合法)が提案されており、実施例においてMw/Mnが2.8の樹脂が得られている。また、特許文献2には、滴下重合後に、より高い温度で後重合を行う二段階重合法が開示されており、実施例においてMw/Mnが2.7の樹脂が得られている。
 特許文献3には、滴下重合法において、予め張り込む溶媒をモノマーの合計100重量部に対し50~500重量部の割合で用いることにより、Mw/Mnが2.5以下の樹脂が得られることが示されている。
 また、特許文献4には、滴下するモノマー混合液中のスチレン濃度を約5~25重量%とし、且つ、添加速度を、反応混合物全体中の遊離スチレンモノマー濃度が約5重量%未満となるように調整することにより、Mzが2000未満の樹脂が得られることが示されている。
 これらの従来技術は総じて、溶媒を使用した滴下重合法を採用して、反応液中のスチレン濃度を低くすることにより、スチレンのホモポリマーの生成を制御し、結果として高分子量化や多分散化を抑制することができることを示している。
 しかしながら、これらの滴下重合法は、多量の溶媒を使用することがコストを上げる要因となっている。また、溶媒を用いることで単位生産量当たりの樹脂の収率が下がる為、大量生産には装置の大型化も必要となる。
 溶媒については、特許文献4において、重合後の樹脂をストリッピング処理して得られる溶媒をそのままリサイクルできることが示されている。また、特許文献5においても、溶媒を回収し再利用することが提案されている。
 しかしながら、効率的に溶媒のリサイクルを行うためには、溶媒と共に回収され、分離工程が必要となる非反応性成分が実質的に含まれていないモノマー原料を用いる必要があり、従って、C5,C6オレフィン等の非反応性成分を含む未精製のジシクロペンタジエン留分等を原料として用いることは困難であった。また、非反応性成分を含まないモノマー原料を用いた場合であっても、溶媒中に残存する未反応モノマーやオリゴマー等は、得られた樹脂の粘着付与特性に影響を与える為、溶媒の再利用には溶媒の精製工程が必要となり、溶媒のリサイクルによるコスト削減の効果はそれほど大きくなかった。
 一方、熱重合反応に用いられるジシクロペンタジエンとしては、一般に、精製された高純度ジシクロペンタジエン、或いは、ジシクロペンタジエンの他に、シクロペンタジエンとメチルシクロペンタジエンやイソプレン、ピペリレン等の他のジエン類とのコダイマーを含むジシクロペンタジエン留分等が用いられる。
 製造コスト的には、例えば、ナフサ等の熱分解生成物を分離して得られる、C5,C6パラフィン及びオレフィンを更に含む安価な未精製ジシクロペンタジエン留分を原料に用いることが有利である。しかしながら、C5,C6パラフィンのような非反応性成分を含む未精製ジシクロペンタジエン留分を用いた場合には、前述のように、重合溶媒を回収する際に非反応性成分の分離が必要となる。

 更に、熱重合反応物は、後段の水素添加により色相や相溶性の改善が図られるが、本発明者らの検討によれば、従来の滴下重合法では、C5,C6パラフィン及びオレフィンを含む未精製ジシクロペンタジエン留分等、不純物を多く含む原料を用いた場合、水素添加後の樹脂の色相や相溶性が劣るということがわかった。
 樹脂の色相を改善するためには、一般に、より厳しい条件で水素添加を行う必要があるが、水素添加条件が厳しいと芳香族成分の核水素化率も高くなり、相溶性に劣る樹脂しか得られなくなる。このため、目的とする芳香族含有量に対して大過剰のスチレンを用いて重合を行い、芳香族含有量を調整する必要がある。しかしながら、このような多量のスチレンの使用は原料コストを上げる要因となり、また、過酷な条件での水素添加は生産効率やプラントコストの点で不利である。
 本発明はこのような問題点に鑑みてなされたものであって、粘着付与剤として用いられるジシクロペンタジエン/ビニル芳香族化合物系水素添加石油樹脂の製造方法において、溶媒を不使用とした場合でも、熱重合における樹脂の高分子量化及び多分散化を抑制することができ、加えて、原料として未精製のジシクロペンタジエン留分を使用した場合でも、色相や相溶性を損なうことなく、コスト的に有利に上記水素添加石油樹脂を製造することができる、新規な製造方法を提供することを課題とする。
 本発明者らは、上記課題を解決すべく鋭意研究を重ねた結果、スチレンとジシクロペンタジエンとを特定の条件下で予め反応させてフェニルノルボルネンを含む反応液を得、これを熱重合させることにより、溶媒を用いることなく、高分子量化・多分散化を抑えた樹脂が得られることを見出し、更に研究を続け、本発明を完成するに至った。
 即ち本発明は、以下の<1>~<4>を提供するものである。
 <1>ジシクロペンタジエンとビニル芳香族化合物とを反応させ、当該反応により得られる反応物を熱重合し、次いで水素添加する水素添加石油樹脂の製造方法であって、以下の工程(A)~(C)

(C)前記重合工程(B)で得られた重合反応物を、触媒の存在下に水素添加して水素添加石油樹脂を得る水素添加工程、
を含むことを特徴とする方法。
 <2>前記予備反応工程(A)において、ビニル芳香族化合物とジシクロペンタジエンとの反応を170~190℃の温度範囲で行う、前記<1>の水素添加石油樹脂の製造方法。
 <3>前記予備反応工程(A)において、170~190℃の温度に加熱されたジシクロペンタジエンに、ビニル芳香族化合物を含む液体を滴下して、ビニル芳香族化合物とジシクロペンタジエンとを反応させる、前記<1>の水素添加石油樹脂の製造方法。
 <4>前記予備反応工程(A)において、170~190℃の温度に加熱されたジシクロペンタジエンに、ビニル芳香族化合物とジシクロペンタジエンを含む液体を滴下して、ビニル芳香族化合物とジシクロペンタジエンとを反応させる、前記<1>の水素添加石油樹脂の製造方法。
 本発明によれば、粘着付与剤として好適な物性を有するジシクロペンタジエン/ビニル芳香族化合物系水素添加石油樹脂を、重合溶媒を使用することなく、熱重合における樹脂の高分子量化及び多分散化を抑制することができ、また、安価な未精製ジシクロペンタジエン留分を重合原料に用いて、コスト的に有利に製造することができる。
 本発明の水素添加石油樹脂の製造方法は、前記工程(A)~(C)を含むものである。以下各工程について詳細に説明する。
(A)予備反応工程
 予備反応工程では、前記式(1)で示されるビニル芳香族化合物とジシクロペンタジエンとを、それらの反応生成物であり前記式(2)で示されるフェニルノルボルネン誘導体の選択率が90%以上となる条件下で反応させて、当該フェニルノルボルネン誘導体を含む反応液を得る。
 前記式(1)及び式(2)において、Rは、水素原子、アルキル基、シクロアルキル基、アリール基又はアラルキル基を示し、好ましくは水素原子である。
 Rで示されるアルキル基としては、炭素数1~10のアルキル基が好ましく、炭素数1~7のアルキル基がより好ましい。また、アルキル基は直鎖状でも分岐状でもよく、例えば、メチル基、エチル基、n-プロピル基、イソプロピル基、n-ブチル基、イソブチル基、sec-ブチル基、tert-ブチル基、n-ペンチル基、イソペンチル基、ネオペンチル基、n-ヘキシル基、イソヘキシル基、n-ヘプチル基等が挙げられる。
 また、シクロアルキル基としては、炭素数3~7のシクロアルキル基が好ましい。例えば、シクロペンチル基、シクロヘキシル基、シクロへプチル基等が挙げられる。
 また、アリール基としては、フェニル基、トリル基、キシリル基、ナフチル基等の炭素数6~12のアリール基が挙げられる。また、アラルキル基としては、ベンジル基、フェネチル基、ナフチルメチル基等の炭素数7~20のアラルキル基が挙げられる。
 本発明で用いられるビニル芳香族化合物の具体的な例としては、スチレン、p-メチルスチレン、p-tert-ブチルスチレン等が挙げられ、好ましくはスチレンである。尚、ビニル芳香族化合物には重合禁止剤等の安定化剤が含まれていてもよい。
 予備反応工程で用いられるジシクロペンタジエンは特に限定されず、概ね、40~100質量%のジシクロペンタジエン;0~30質量%の、シクロペンタジエンと他のジエン類(メチルシクロペンタジエンやイソプレン、ピペリレン等)とのコダイマー(以下、「C10+」という場合がある);0~40質量%のC5,C6パラフィン;及び0~20質量%のC5,C6オレフィンを含む、高純度ジシクロペンタジエン又は未精製ジシクロペンタジエン留分をジシクロペンタジエン原料として用いることができる。また、ジシクロペンタジエンとシクロペンタジエンの混合物も使用することができる。
 このようなジシクロペンタジエン原料の中でも、熱重合により得られる樹脂の収量の点では、ジシクロペンタジエンやコダイマー等の反応性成分の濃度が高いものが好ましいが、本発明では、C5,C6パラフィン等の非反応性成分を含む安価な未精製ジシクロペンタジエン留分も用いることができる。
 C5,C6パラフィンを含むジシクロペンタジエン留分としては、ジシクロペンタジエン50~85質量%と、C5及びC6パラフィンを併せて5~30質量%とを含むジシクロペンタジエン留分が好ましく、ジシクロペンタジエン60~80質量%と、C5及びC6パラフィンを併せて10~25質量%とを含むジシクロペンタジエン留分がより好ましい。尚、残部はジシクロペンタジエン留分における他の成分(C5,C6オレフィン及びC10+等)からなる。
 また、本発明の予備反応工程は、反応溶媒を用いずに行うことができる。
 尚、ナフサ等の熱分解装置から得られる未精製ジシクロペンタジエン留分を用いる場合、オペレーションによってジシクロペンタジエン濃度が大きく変動することから、ロット間の樹脂品質を均一に保つためにジシクロペンタジエン留分に溶媒を添加して組成を調整してもよい。この場合、溶媒は組成を調整するために用いられ、その使用量は重合溶媒として用いられる従来の方法と比べ非常に少量でよく、通常、ジシクロペンタジエン留分に対して10質量%以下である。
 このような溶媒としては、例えば、ベンゼン、トルエン、キシレン等の芳香族系溶媒;シクロヘキサン、ジメチルシクロヘキサン、エチルシクロヘキサン等のナフテン系溶媒等が好適に使用できる。
 また、予備反応工程では、フェニルノルボルネン誘導体が生成し、ビニル芳香族化合物のホモポリマーをはじめ、重合物の生成が少ないこと(好ましくは重合物が実質的に生成しないこと)が重要であり、従って、予備反応工程におけるフェニルノルボルネン誘導体の選択率は、90%以上が好ましく、95%以上がより好ましく、97%以上が更に好ましく、99%以上が特に好ましい。
 この様な高いフェニルノルボルネン誘導体の選択率でビニル芳香族化合物とジシクロペンタジエンとを反応させることにより、驚くべきことに、予備反応工程終了時に未反応のビニル芳香族化合物が残っていても、後段の重合工程において樹脂の高分子量化・多分散化を抑制することができる。従って、予備反応工程におけるビニル芳香族化合物の転化率はそれほど高い必要はなく、概ね50%以上であればよい。
 尚、ビニル芳香族化合物の転化率及びフェニルノルボルネン誘導体の選択率は、以下の式により算出される。また、ビニル芳香族化合物の残存量及びフェニルノルボルネン誘導体の生成量は、通常、ガスクロマトグラフィーにより求めることができる。

 この様な高いフェニルノルボルネン誘導体の選択率でビニル芳香族化合物とジシクロペンタジエンとを反応させるためには、170~190℃の温度範囲でビニル芳香族化合物とジシクロペンタジエンを反応させることが好ましい。反応温度を170℃以上とすることにより、ジシクロペンタジエンが十分に熱分解し、反応が進行しやすくなるためフェニルノルボルネン誘導体が効率的に生成する。また、反応温度を190℃以下とすることにより、フェニルノルボルネン誘導体の反応による高分子量化や、ビニル芳香族化合物のホモポリマー等の生成が抑えられ、フェニルノルボルネン誘導体の選択率が向上する。
 また、反応系内のビニル芳香族化合物を低濃度とし、ビニル芳香族化合物のホモポリマーの生成を抑制する観点から、反応は、上記温度範囲に加熱したジシクロペンタジエンに、ビニル芳香族化合物を含む液体を滴下(分割添加又は連続添加)して行うことが好ましい。
 具体的には、予め反応容器にジシクロペンタジエンを所定量仕込み、上記反応温度に加熱した後、当該温度を保持した状態で、ビニル芳香族化合物を含む液体を分割して或いは連続的に滴下して反応させることが好ましい。
 滴下する液体は、ビニル芳香族化合物のみを含むものであってもよいし、ビニル芳香族化合物とジシクロペンタジエンを含んでいてもよい。このジシクロペンタジエンとしては、前記ジシクロペンタジエン原料を使用することができる。また、予め反応容器に仕込むジシクロペンタジエンと滴下液に用いるジシクロペンタジエンは、同じ組成のものであってもよいし、異なる組成のものであってもよい。
 予め反応容器に仕込むジシクロペンタジエンと滴下液との使用量の比率や、滴下液がジシクロペンタジエンを含む場合における滴下液中のジシクロペンタジエンとビニル芳香族化合物との使用量の比率は、得られる樹脂の芳香族含有量の目標値に応じて適宜設定されるが、反応容器への仕込み量100質量部に対し、滴下液20~150質量部の範囲であることが好ましい。滴下液の使用量を20質量部以上とすれば、得られた樹脂の芳香族含有量は十分量となる。また、滴下液の使用量を150質量部以下とした場合、滴下時のビニル芳香族化合物は低濃度となり、更には反応熱による局所的な温度上昇が抑えられるため、フェニルノルボルネン誘導体の選択率の低下を防ぐことができる。
 また、ビニル芳香族化合物と反応系に供給される全ジシクロペンタジエンとの比(質量比)は、得られる樹脂の芳香族含有量の目標値に応じて適宜選択可能であり、通常5/95~60/40、好ましくは10/90~50/50、より好ましくは15/85~40/60、特に好ましくは20/80~30/70である。
 滴下にかける時間は、1~4時間が好ましい。滴下時間を1時間以上とした場合、反応液系内のビニル芳香族化合物は低濃度となり、更には反応熱による急激な温度上昇が抑えられるため、フェニルノルボルネン誘導体の選択性の低下を防ぐことができる。これにより、その後の重合工程においてホモポリマーが生成しにくくなる。また、滴下時間を4時間以下とした場合、シクロペンタジエンの単独重合は進行しにくくなる。これにより、その後の重合工程において高分子量体が形成されにくくなる。
 また、滴下時は、反応容器内の温度が均一に保たれるよう、且つ、ビニル芳香族化合物の濃度が局所的に高くならないように、系内を攪拌しながら行うことが好ましい。
(B)重合工程
 重合工程では、前記予備反応工程(A)で得られたフェニルノルボルネン誘導体を含む反応液を、240~300℃の温度に加熱して熱重合を行う。重合温度が240℃未満では、重合速度が著しく下がり、また、重合温度が300℃を超えて高くなると、重合速度が著しく上昇してしまう。
 重合温度は、重合速度の観点から、好ましくは250~280℃である。尚、重合時間は、好ましくは0.5~4時間、より好ましくは1~3時間である。
 熱重合は無溶媒で実施することができ、予備反応工程で使用した反応容器に反応液を保持したまま、重合温度まで加熱して行うことができる。また、得られた反応液を別の重合容器に移送して熱重合を行ってもよい。
 予備反応工程で使用した反応容器を重合温度まで加熱する場合、昇温速度としては、熱重合により得られる樹脂の高分子量化を防ぐ点で、1.5℃/分以上が好ましい。
(C)水素添加工程
 水素添加工程では、重合工程(B)で得られた重合反応物を、触媒の存在下に水素添加して水素添加石油樹脂を得る。
 重合反応物は、そのまま水素添加工程に供してもよいし、得られた重合反応物中の未反応のモノマー成分及び低分子量重合物を除去した後に供してもよい。モノマー成分等を分離・除去する方法としては特に制限はなく、例えばフラッシュ蒸留装置や薄膜蒸発器等が好適に使用できる。
 重合反応物を水素添加するための方法には特に制限がなく、回分式反応装置や流通式連続反応装置等が使用できる。
 回分式反応装置を用いる場合、反応条件としては、温度は通常200~300℃、好ましくは200~270℃、反応圧力は通常0~10MPaG(Gはゲージ圧力であることを示す。以下同様である。)、好ましくは1~7MPaG、反応時間は通常0.5~8時間、好ましくは1~5時間である。
 また、流通式連続反応装置を用いる場合、通常固定床流通反応装置、好ましくは液ガス並流によるトリクルフロー型反応装置を用いることができる。反応条件としては、温度は通常100~300℃、好ましくは120~250℃、反応圧力は通常0~10MPaG、好ましくは1~5MPaG、LHSV(液空間速度)は通常2.0~12.0[h-1]、好ましくは5.0~12.0[h-1]である。尚、流通反応器の数に制限はなく、2塔以上による分割水素添加も可能である。
 水素添加工程に用いる触媒は、通常公知のもの、例えばニッケル、パラジウム、コバルト、白金、ロジウム系等の触媒が好適に使用でき、好ましくはニッケル又はパラジウム系触媒であり、水素添加石油樹脂の色相の点で、より好ましくはパラジウム系触媒である。
 触媒の具体例としては、上記ニッケル、パラジウム、コバルト、白金、ロジウム等に代表される遷移金属触媒の他、これらを任意の担体に担持したものが挙げられる。担体としては、アルミナ、シリカ、シリカ-アルミナ、ゼオライト、粘土鉱物(モンモリロナイト等)、炭化ケイ素等が挙げられる。
 また、水素添加工程での反応は、溶媒の存在下に行ってもよい。この溶媒としては、シクロヘキサン、ジメチルシクロヘキサン、エチルシクロヘキサン等のナフテン系溶媒等が挙げられる。
 水素添加工程で得られた水素添加石油樹脂から、必要に応じて、未反応のモノマー成分、低分子量重合物、溶媒等の揮発分を除去することにより、目的とする水素添加石油樹脂を得ることができる。モノマー成分等を分離・除去する方法としては特に制限はなく、例えばフラッシュ蒸留装置や薄膜蒸発器等が好適に使用できる。
 以下、実施例を挙げて本発明を更に具体的に説明するが、本発明はこれらに限定されるものではない。尚、実施例において、組成等は特段の記載がない限り質量基準である。
 また、反応液のガスクロマトグラフィー分析は、n-ドデカンを内標とし、下記の条件で行なった。
 分析機器:GC-14A(株式会社島津製作所製)
 検出機器:FID(水素炎イオン化型検出器)
 使用カラム:TC-1(内径0.25mm、長さ60m、膜厚0.25μm)
 分析条件:インジェクション温度:250℃、カラム温度:40℃で5分保持後、10℃/分で昇温し、70℃で22分、200℃で10分、280℃で9分それぞれ保持、ディテクター温度:250℃
 得られた樹脂の物性等は、以下の方法により求めた。
(1)分子量測定
 分子量(重量平均分子量Mw、数平均分子量Mn及びZ平均分子量Mz)及び分子量分布(Mw/Mn)は、高速GPC装置(東ソー株式会社製、HLC-8320GPC)を用い、ポリスチレン換算値として求めた〔溶離液:テトラヒドロフラン、カラム:東ソー株式会社製G4000HXL、G3000HXL、G2000HXL(2本)を直列に連結して使用、検出器:RI、標準試料:ポリスチレン〕。
(2)軟化点測定
 JIS K-2207(1991)に従って、環球法で測定した。
(3)曇り点測定
 水素添加樹脂とエチレン酢酸ビニル共重合体(三井デュポン社製、商品名「エバフレックスEVA-210」)とを、50/50(質量比)で混合溶解させ、JIS K-2269「石油製品曇り点試験方法」に準拠して測定した。曇り点が低いほど、水素添加樹脂とエチレン酢酸ビニル共重合体の相溶性が高いことを示す。
(4)芳香族含有率
 H-NMRスペクトルの測定結果から算出した。
(5)色相(ハーゼン色数)
 50質量%トルエン溶液とし、比色計(ティントメーター社製、ロビボンド・PFX195)を用いて測定した。
(6)収率
 熱重合における樹脂の収率は、以下の式により算出した。
収率(質量%)=〔樹脂収量(g)/全仕込み量(g)〕×100
 ここで、全仕込み量は、反応容器に投入したジシクロペンタジエン留分及びスチレンの総量であり、溶媒を用いた場合は溶媒も含む。
実施例1:水素添加樹脂の製造例(1)
(予備反応工程)
 内容積10Lの攪拌機付きオートクレーブに、表1で示される組成のジシクロペンタジエン留分X(ジシクロペンタジエン濃度:75質量%)2593gを仕込み、系内を窒素で置換した。その後500rpmで撹拌しながら、4℃/分の速度で180℃まで昇温した。180℃に保持した状態で、スチレン970gと上記ジシクロペンタジエン留分X1439gの混合液を2時間かけて滴下した。
 滴下終了時の反応液をガスクロマトグラフィーで分析したところ、スチレンの転化率は58%、フェニルノルボルネンの選択率は100%であり、スチレン由来の重合物は全く生成していないことが確認された。
(重合工程)
 滴下終了後の反応液を1.8℃/分の速度で260℃まで昇温した。その後、引き続き260℃で2時間加熱し、重合反応を行った。これにより、重合反応物1を得た。
 重合反応物1の一部を分取し、ロータリーエバポレーターを用いて、温度230℃、窒素気流下で10分間処理し、未反応モノマーを除去した。次いで温度230℃、圧力6.7kPaA(Aは絶対圧力であることを示す。以下同様である。)で15分間処理し、低分子量体を一部除去して樹脂P1を得た。樹脂P1の性状を表2に示す。
(水素添加工程)
 重合工程で得られた重合反応物1を用いて、ニッケル系触媒による水素添加を行い、水素添加樹脂Q1を得た。即ち、内容積1Lの攪拌機付きオートクレーブに、重合反応物1を500g、ニッケル担持シリカ・アルミナ触媒を0.75g仕込み、系内を窒素で置換し、温度230℃、水素圧力3MPaGで1.5時間、水素添加反応を行った。
 水素添加反応後、ロータリーエバポレーターを用いて、温度230℃、窒素気流下で10分間処理し、未反応モノマーを除去した。次いで温度230℃、圧力6.7kPaAで10分間処理し、低分子量体を一部除去して水素添加樹脂Q1を得た。水素添加樹脂Q1の性状を表3に示す。
比較例1:水素添加樹脂の製造例(2)
 予備反応工程におけるフェニルノルボルネンの選択率が90%未満の場合(反応温度が高い場合)の比較例を示す。
(予備反応工程)
 温度210℃で反応を行った点以外は、実施例1と同条件で予備反応を行った。滴下終了時の反応液をガスクロマトグラフィーで分析したところ、スチレンの転化率は82%、フェニルノルボルネンの選択率は82%であり、フェニルノルボルネンの生成量は実施例1より多くなったものの、選択率の低下が確認された。
(重合工程)
 次いで、実施例1と同様に重合反応を行い、重合反応物2を得た。重合反応物2の一部を分取し、ロータリーエバポレーターを用いて、温度230℃、窒素気流下で10分間処理し、未反応モノマーを除去した。次いで温度230℃、圧力6.7kPaAで5分間処理し、低分子量体を一部除去して樹脂P2を得た。樹脂P2の性状を表2に示す。
 得られた樹脂P2のZ平均分子量(Mz)及び分子量分布(Mw/Mn)は、原料として同じジシクロペンタジエン留分Xを用いた実施例1に比べて非常に大きくなっており、予備反応工程においてフェニルノルボルネンの生成量が多くても、選択率が90%に満たない場合は、樹脂の高分子量化・多分散化が起こることが示された。
(水素添加工程)
 重合工程で得られた重合反応物2を用いて、ニッケル系触媒による水素添加を行い、水素添加樹脂Q2を得た。即ち、内容積1Lの攪拌機付きオートクレーブに、重合反応物2を500g、ニッケル担持シリカ・アルミナ触媒を0.75g仕込み、系内を窒素で置換し、温度230℃、水素圧力3MPaGで3時間、水素添加反応を行った。
 水素添加反応後、ロータリーエバポレーターを用いて、温度230℃、窒素気流下で10分間処理し、未反応モノマーを除去した。次いで温度230℃、圧力6.7kPaAで8分間処理し、低分子量体を一部除去して水素添加樹脂Q2を得た。水素添加樹脂Q2の性状を表3に示す。
 得られた水素添加樹脂Q2の色相及び相溶性(曇り点)は、水素添加樹脂Q1に比べ大きく劣るものであった。
比較例2:水素添加樹脂の製造例(3)
 従来の滴下重合法(すなわち、加熱した溶媒中にモノマー溶液を滴下して重合する方法)による比較例を示す。
(滴下重合工程)
 内容積10Lの攪拌機付きオートクレーブに、キシレン300gを仕込み、系内を窒素で置換した。その後500rpmで撹拌しながら、4℃/分の速度で240℃まで昇温した。240℃に保持した状態で、スチレン478gと上記ジシクロペンタジエン留分X2022gの混合液を2時間かけて滴下して重合反応を行った。
 滴下終了後、反応液を1.8℃/分の速度で260℃まで昇温し、引き続き260℃で2時間加熱して、重合反応を促進させた。これにより、重合反応物3を得た。
 重合反応物3の一部を分取し、ロータリーエバポレーターを用いて、温度230℃、窒素気流下で10分間処理し、未反応モノマーを除去した。次いで温度230℃、圧力6.7kPaAで3分間処理し、低分子量体を一部除去して樹脂P3を得た。樹脂P3の性状を表2に示す。
 得られた樹脂P3のZ平均分子量(Mz)及び分子量分布(Mw/Mn)は、原料として同じジシクロペンタジエン留分Xを用いた実施例1と同程度であった。
(水素添加工程)
 滴下重合工程で得られた重合反応物3を用いて、ニッケル系触媒による水素添加を行い、水素添加樹脂Q3を得た。即ち、内容積1Lの攪拌機付きオートクレーブに、重合反応物3を500g、ニッケル担持シリカ・アルミナ触媒を0.75g仕込み、系内を窒素で置換し、温度230℃、水素圧力3MPaGで1.5時間、水素添加反応を行った。
 水素添加反応後、ロータリーエバポレーターを用いて、温度230℃、窒素気流下で10分間処理し、未反応モノマーを除去した。次いで温度230℃、圧力6.7kPaAで10分間処理し、低分子量体を一部除去して水素添加樹脂Q3を得た。水素添加樹脂Q3の性状を表3に示す。
 得られた水素添加樹脂Q3の色相及び相溶性(曇り点)は、同条件で水素添加した実施例1に比べて劣るものであった。
実施例2:水素添加樹脂の製造例(4)
(水素添加工程)
 実施例1と同じ重合反応物1を用いて、パラジウム系触媒による水素添加を行い、水素添加樹脂Q4を得た。即ち、内容積1Lの攪拌機付きオートクレーブに、重合反応物1を500g、パラジウム担持アルミナ触媒を1.5g仕込み、系内を窒素で置換し、温度265℃、水素圧力5MPaGで5時間、水素添加反応を行った。
 水素添加反応後、ロータリーエバポレーターを用いて、温度230℃、窒素気流下で10分間処理し、未反応モノマーを除去した。次いで温度230℃、圧力6.7kPaAで8分間処理し、低分子量体を一部除去して水素添加樹脂Q4を得た。水素添加樹脂Q4の性状を表3に示す。
実施例3:水素添加樹脂の製造例(5)
(予備反応工程)
 内容積10Lの攪拌機付きオートクレーブに、表1で示される組成のジシクロペンタジエン留分Y(ジシクロペンタジエン濃度:71質量%)3600gを仕込み、系内を窒素で置換した。その後500rpmで撹拌しながら、4℃/分の速度で180℃まで昇温した。180℃に保持した状態で、スチレン1014gと、上記ジシクロペンタジエン留分Y986gの混合液を2時間かけて滴下した。
(重合工程)
 滴下終了後、1.8℃/分の速度で260℃まで昇温した。その後、引き続き260℃で2時間加熱し、重合反応を行った。これにより、重合反応物4を得た。
 重合反応物4を、ロータリーエバポレーターを用いて、温度230℃、窒素気流下で10分間処理し、未反応モノマーを除去した。次いで温度230℃、圧力6.7kPaAで8分間処理し、低分子量体を一部除去して樹脂P4を得た。樹脂P4の性状を表2に示す。
(水素添加工程)
 得られた樹脂P4を用いて、パラジウム系触媒を用いた2段連続水添を行ない、水素添加樹脂Q5を得た。即ち、樹脂P4をエチルシクロヘキサンに溶解して樹脂濃度20質量%の樹脂溶液を調製し、パラジウム担持アルミナ触媒を充填した固定床流通反応装置(気液並流、下降流型)に通液して、温度120℃、水素圧力1MPaG、LHSV5.6[h-1]にて水素添加反応を行った。更に同様の固定床流通反応装置を用い、温度220℃、水素圧力1MPaG、LHSV10.9[h-1]にて水素添加反応を行った。
 水素添加反応後、反応液を取り出し、ロータリーエバポレーターを用いて、温度180℃、窒素気流下で20分間処理し、溶媒を除去した。次いで温度180℃、圧力6.7kPaAで10分間処理し、低分子量体を一部除去して水素添加樹脂Q5を得た。水素添加樹脂Q5の性状を表3に示す。
実施例4:水素添加樹脂の製造例(6)
(予備反応工程)
 内容積5Lの攪拌機付きオートクレーブに、表1で示される組成のジシクロペンタジエン留分Z(ジシクロペンタジエン濃度:60質量%)1800gを仕込み、系内を窒素で置換した。その後500rpmで撹拌しながら、4℃/分の速度で180℃まで昇温した。180℃に保持した状態で、スチレン445.2gと、上記ジシクロペンタジエン留分Z554.8gの混合液を、180℃を保持した状態で2時間かけて滴下した。
(重合工程)
 滴下終了後、1.8℃/分の速度で260℃まで昇温した。その後引き続き260℃で2時間、重合反応を行った。これにより、重合反応物5を得た。
 重合反応物5の一部を分取し、ロータリーエバポレーターを用いて、温度230℃、窒素気流下で10分間処理し、未反応モノマーを除去した。次いで温度230℃、圧力6.7kPaAで12分間処理し、低分子量体を一部除去して樹脂P5を得た。樹脂P5の性状を表2に示す。
(水素添加工程)
 重合工程で得られた重合反応物5を用いて、パラジウム系触媒による水素添加を行い、水素添加樹脂Q6を得た。即ち、内容積1Lの攪拌機付きオートクレーブに、重合反応物5を500g、パラジウム担持アルミナ触媒を1.5g仕込み、系内を窒素で置換し、温度255℃、水素圧力5MPaGで5時間、水素添加反応を行った。
 水素添加反応後、ロータリーエバポレーターを用いて、温度230℃、窒素気流下で10分間処理し、未反応モノマーを除去した。次いで温度230℃、圧力6.7kPaAで8分間処理し、低分子量体を一部除去して水素添加樹脂Q6を得た。水素添加樹脂Q6の性状を表3に示す。

 実施例1~4に示されるように、本発明の製造方法によれば、溶媒を用いることなく、熱重合における高分子量化や多分散化を抑制することができ、また、未精製のジシクロペンタジエン留分を用いた場合においても、色相及び相溶性に優れた水素添加石油樹脂が得られる。
 従って、本発明の製造方法によれば、粘着付与剤として好適な水素添加石油樹脂を低コストで製造することができる。

Claims (4)

  1.  ジシクロペンタジエンとビニル芳香族化合物とを反応させ、当該反応により得られる反応物を熱重合し、次いで水素添加する水素添加石油樹脂の製造方法であって、以下の工程(A)~(C)
    (A)下記式(1)

    (式中、Rは水素原子、アルキル基、シクロアルキル基、アリール基又はアラルキル基である。)
    で示されるビニル芳香族化合物と、ジシクロペンタジエンとを、それらの反応生成物であり下記式(2)

    {式中、Rは前記式(1)と同義である。}
    で示されるフェニルノルボルネン誘導体の選択率が90%以上となる条件下で反応させて、当該フェニルノルボルネン誘導体を含む反応液を得る予備反応工程、
    (B)前記予備反応工程(A)で得られたフェニルノルボルネン誘導体を含む反応液を、240~300℃の温度に加熱して重合させて重合反応物を得る重合工程、
    (C)前記重合工程(B)で得られた重合反応物を、触媒の存在下に水素添加して水素添加石油樹脂を得る水素添加工程、
    を含むことを特徴とする方法。
  2.  前記予備反応工程(A)において、ビニル芳香族化合物とジシクロペンタジエンとの反応を170~190℃の温度範囲で行う請求項1に記載の水素添加石油樹脂の製造方法。
  3.  前記予備反応工程(A)において、170~190℃の温度に加熱されたジシクロペンタジエンに、ビニル芳香族化合物を含む液体を滴下して、ビニル芳香族化合物とジシクロペンタジエンとを反応させる請求項1に記載の水素添加石油樹脂の製造方法。
  4.  前記予備反応工程(A)において、170~190℃の温度に加熱されたジシクロペンタジエンに、ビニル芳香族化合物とジシクロペンタジエンを含む液体を滴下して、ビニル芳香族化合物とジシクロペンタジエンとを反応させる請求項1に記載の水素添加石油樹脂の製造方法。
